It depends, my friend who reviewed it is a huge veteran and didn't have a whole lot of trouble with some bosses that gave other reviewers a bit of pause. He finished the game in around 22 hours the first time and 16 the second time.

THAT BEING SAID, as he even admits in the review, there's tons of content out there that he most likely missed. There's so much hidden content, it's ridiculous. He couldn't even find a covenant on the first go around.

I don't doubt that he missed a lot. Some of the areas that I have seen are pretty damn big. The Souls games are known for masterful level design, but this is just taking it to the next level.

Seems like Sony's streak of bad reviewing games on PS4 is finally broken. To be fair, I think no one could expect something else as the Souls games were already the darlings of the community and critics alike.

Would like to see what improvements the Day 1 patch brings/brought. Hopefully it alleviates the load times, because that is an issue I've noticed from pre-release streams.

Incredible scores. I am feeling the hype rise. I was going to try and wait to buy it til I finished a few games in my backlog but I don't think I can resist.

Looks like this is about to be a generational classic.

It is unfortunate though to see what seems like a clickbait review with some pretty throwaway criticisms that don't hold up to logical scrutiny.

For what seems like it is a universally praised piece of work the Armond White's of the world are pretty annoying to see hurt - even if only a little - the aggregate score that matters so much in this industry.

I thought infamous got good reviews.

Glad this is a critical hit though.

For AAA I agree about the bad reviews but not with indies on ps4

There's a lot of paths that are completely obscured by barrels and boxes that are outrageously easy to miss. The level design also gives way to a lot of corridors that look incredibly similar to one another, so it's hard to tell if you've been one way or not.

He's really excited about going a third round to find more of the stuff he's missed. We both agreed that there could easily be upwards of 40+ hours in the base game (as in, discounting pvp). He didn't note the time as a negative, despite how short it was for him compared to other games. He acknowledged the breadth of content left to tackle, but that the core game had basically proven itself to him enough to write the review.

Kind of neat Sony and MS picked their exclusive mercenaries with FROM and Platinum... Im kind of loving giving lower budget devs a shit ton of money to make a game to compete with the other consoles

Holy fuck these scores, potentially one of the all time greats?
As far as all time rankings go it's not high enough, however for this gen definitely.

It's kind of exciting to see such a well-reviewing game that isn't on a Nintendo platform for the first time in forever.

I notice alot of reviews in progress are because of a lack of time with multiplayer and chalice dungeons when did them features go live

So is this game more around 22 hours or 40+?

And framerate isnt too bad is it? Any word on if it's getting patched like the load times?

I was also curious about the level variety since we've only been shown one place, but I'm going in blind.

With just the last boss left, my playthrough time is sitting at 31 hours.

My first playthrough of Dark Souls 1 clocked in at 42 hours before the last boss.

Framerate isn't horrible. There are a few hiccups, but nothing as appalling as an entire area chugging to 10 fps for a good 2-3 hour segment of the game.
