That's a bit disappointing to hear. Would you say that the way dodging works now makes the game easier?

Absolutely. As I said in my previous comment, it's much faster with a lot more invincibility frames. I rarely get hit if I just mash the dodge/roll button and it doesn't drain stamina nearly as fast as it would in Dark Souls 2.

To sum it up, I'm just not afraid of enemies in this game. In Dark Souls I would be scared out of my mind to engage most enemies. Here, I just run up to them.

THAT, I've noticed. ;)

Shame they didn't read the WORDS that actually went with the review, or checked what they number means on our scale, eh? Ah well.

I agree with you that these games are not for everyone, and think you should stick to your guns on that. There are sure to be a lot of people who buy the game on the strength of the reviews/hype that won't end up enjoying it.

This is coming from someone who loves the Souls games.

The funny thing is that my very first try I got it down to 15% health. And there after I never got it past the last stubborn 20-30%. And then I got killed by its
multihit grab attack
repeatedly, and ran out of
antidotes after several fights. And out of Fire paper. And out of oil urns. And molotovs and even knives.

I eventually got pretty good at parrying it but even in my succesful run I nearly died a bunch of times.

Could be I'm just struggling to adapt to Bloodborne's play style, but I think average skill people are going to have a really hard time with parts of this game. In a good way of course.

Maybe I'll blaze through the rest. We'll see.

I haven't use Molotovs since the first area and never used knives or fire paper. Since I'm writing a guide I wanted to play as basic as possible. :)

Out of curiosity did you use light armor in DS? Because as you know stamina used varied greatly depending on total weight to carrying capacity ratio

Good. This is not a bad thing to me actually.

All that said, I have died. This is still harder than your average game. It's just not as difficult as Dark Souls 2.

Really? That's disappointing. DS2 is the easiest in the Soul's series by far, 95% of the bosses all you needed to do was circle strafe.

I'm 100% sure I'll love this, but I find it hard to believe (don't want to believe) it'll be easier than DS2 .

Those are some nice review scores! Makes me wish I was able to get an order through for that anniversary PS4 @_@. Stupid Sony store ;_;

I think my buddy may be getting this. I'm gonna have to go over to their place and try it out.

I disagree. I was watching Patrick Klepek start a new character and fight Father Gio....Gioncarl(Or whatever), and PK got owned by him. And that's after Patrick had played the game for 20 hours if his kotaku article is true(And he's a DeS/DS/DS2 veteran).

I respect Dogg's opinions but several of the reviews have said the exact opposite regarding its difficulty relative to DkS2.

Ultimately it's down to player skill and familiarity with the other games.

Souls games always have different difficulty opinions from different people. I bet you could get three different people that thought Demons, Dark, or Dark 2 was the hardest game respectively .

Good to know! Still 24 hours before I'll get to jump in, it's going to feel like a week!

Not what I want to hear, best part of these games is being intimidated by regular combat engagements. Ah well.

Hey Stevivor, I'm on your PSN friend list.. watching my feed constantly saying "Stevivor Played Bloodborne" since last week has been all kinds of painful.

Now now the wait to play at midnight tonight (Aus time).

Hahaha! I think it more painful for me to be playing. ;)

Glad to see you'll be on the "now playing" list soon. Enjoy!

Yeah, I'm sure he's telling the absolute truth about his experience, but it is not aligning with mine (first three bosses, 11 hours in) at all.

I'm pretty decent at Souls. I've solo melee'd Kalameet. I've done O&S with a Gravelord sword and no armor at low level. I've beaten Dark Souls in under 12 hours. I'm finding this game isn't painfully hard but I am forced to pay attention and when in combat with non-scrub enemies I have to fight for my life.

And that third boss battle, I don't know what kind of an outlier my fight was, but it got my heart racing and gave me "the fear" in a way Dark Souls 2 never really did.

"New IP" only entered the discussion after the goalposts were moved a few times already. It was originally about "games released this generation."
Then we proceeded to create a new classification so Bloodborne can "win" whatever nonexistent contest is at hand.

Several pages late but...got dang. Truth.

Ha, how about just: good games sure are good, guys.

Oh, yeah. I'm 100% behind Souls fans eating the game up, and newcomers going for a physical copy. The latter will either love it or hate it, really, and the physical copy idea means they can return the game if need be.

If someone with a R'lyehian name finds the game difficult, it must be true.

I used both but I do prefer heavy armor. But when it comes to dodging, stamina really doesn't matter much in this game.

You don't even have to circle strafe most of the bosses. Just get behind them and attack.

^Pretty much this. As I said, my job is to write guides. I'm also a competitive fighting game player. My experience with most gaming journalist is that they suck at games. If someone thinks Dark Souls 2 is a very hard game, they'll still find Bloodborne hard.

I disagree. I was watching Patrick Klepek start a new character and fight Father Gio....Gioncarl(Or whatever), and PK got owned by him. And that's after Patrick had played the game for 20 hours if his kotaku article is true(And he's a DeS/DS/DS2 veteran).

There's an item that makes that fight really easy. Even without the item, it's really not hard... at least IMO. Was he using the Tiny Music Box? If not, then he didn't explore very much.

Those are some nice scores, can't wait to play the game tomorrow. It's going to be a long day, trying to avoid any videos/spoilers of the game.

I've has most of my deaths in the beginning but that was mostly due to adjusting to the new combat system. The game is easier than Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2.

This is seriously upsetting me lol.

I am appreciative of your feedback, but I do not like hearing that you didnt care when approaching enemies. Do you think the regain system is too generous? I felt like it could be given a smaller window. Does it feel like you can carelessly attack and since you get health back, you never worry about dying?

Can anyone else share opinions? Any fans who found this easier? Harder? I want a nice strong challenge, not to one off bosses, but I'm curious about the feedback you guys have

I've been playing since Demon's came out in 09 and I had a pretty hard time with Cleric Beast and the werewolves before its boss gate tbh. Mobs can be scary too.

It feels a lot more satisfying with its difficulty than DkS2 did.

Wonderful, I never doubted From, one of the last good Dev houses IMO. I'm glad PS4 is getting some games I can finally sink my teeth into.

I suggest you don't take one person's opinion as totally canonical. There are a few diverging opinions.

I'm glad someone is getting this view out there. Solid advice!

As someone who hated DkS2 but adore the first two games -

I'm loving the shit out of this. Wholeheartedly recommend it already, honestly. Combat feels so much better than it ever did before.
