Irrelevant? Race =/= Religion

It's dumb to assume they're the same.

the reason people are upset about this type of profiling is because it would target and discriminate against a group of people for largely ignorant reasons. Pointing out that the delineating factor used to profile these people is religion and not race is extremely irrelevant.

What? How did you just equate the status quo to radical authoritarian nationalism?

This "They are both the same!" crap has gotten out of control.
Yeah the equally bad rhetoric is tired and filled with false equivalency. They are NOT the same. Even if there are certain actors that at minimum match there are stark differences especially when broken down by socioeconomic lines. Its a defense used like someone in chess knows they will lose so they have a stalemate.

Who else besides white straight guys are doing this tho? As someone who is a minority and gay, the only people I've come across doing the mental gymnastics in regards to Trump are white straight guys.
I just don't like the way it generalizes white people.

Maybe change 'white guy' to 'unempathetic white guy'? : p

Instead he said that "if we have nuclear bombs, why we can't use them", which is exponentially worse than someone that keeps the US current foreign politics.

Do we really need to get into a race of pulling quotations?

Again, in what world does the campaign promises of people speaking out of their asses to get elected rank ahead of the things people have actually physically done.

I don't know how many times I have to say this, Trump is bad. Trump is a monster. I'm just infatuated by how willful of a blind eye is turned against Hillary, whom you know, actually has a pile of dead bodies in her closet.

Meanwhile, let's focus on his business history while ignoring the whole DNC, emails, and other handling.

To say Hillary is qualified, suitable, or a desirable candidate while parsing the internet for Trump quotes is maddening.

That said, I must bail out as I should get some work done before getting sucked in deeper. Ironically this took me from being a GAF lurker to posting.

You absolutely know you are playing stupid.

If you are suggesting there isn't a STRONG bias against brown skinned Muslims on the Trump side, you are a hilarious person.
its so annoying that people will argue and be mad at a technicality instead of the bigger picture that any sentiment regardless of it being racial or not to ban an entire people is bad.

Still disagree, neither are suitable.

One clearly is different and wrong. One clearly continues the same old corruption.

Hillary speaks better though, it almost as if elections were as pure as 9th graders selecting their class president.

You're just sticking your fingers in your ears and singing at this point.

its so annoying that people will argue and be mad at a technicality instead of the bigger picture that any sentiment regardless of it being racial or not to ban an entire people is bad.

Especially when the other person is more likely to do more of what they hate than the person they are actually going after.

It's a pretty extraordinary claim to say that literally only straight white guys "are doing this". For one, you've got that Milo turd.

A preponderance of people who support Trump are white, and straight, yes. But supporting trump isn't a facet of being white and straight.

Point being, generalizing like that ain't cool any way you slice it.

I'm not sure if you're assuming Im a conservative and by trying to draw comparison's to the conservative idol that is Reagan.

US has a long history doing that, and I personally would like to see that changed. Trump has indicated that he doesn't believe the US should be policing the world, whereas Hillary has indicated that US should continue to be a leader.

Trump, the man who said he would end ISIS in "2 weeks", who has asked why we shouldn't use nuclear bombs in the Syrian crisis, who has made not-so-vague threats towards Iran, etc., is going to have a better foreign policy than Clinton? You seriously believe this?

White male fragility. Goodness.

As a white dude emphatically against Trump, I am in no way offended by this mostly-accurate meme.

The notion of banning a whole swath of people is about the most un-American thing imaginable.

So you are applying basically the same old emails or conspiracy theories to try to equate Hillary to Trump as equally bad (but for different reasons)

It's easy to see you ignore 'reptative news' and stick to reptative online echo chambers

All of those times in life we are denied opportunities and profiled for being straight white males. I know it's hard to deal with.

I have to assume that you are trolling now because otherwise you are simply the most blind person i have ever seen or simply someone hiding your own discriminatory beliefs.

We have had tonnes of people responding to you with direct quotes from Trump about wanting to use Nukes, wanting to increase the severity of torture we use, intentionally bombing innocent family members, racially profiling millions of people (both domestic and foreign) and yet you continue to ignore those points just to keep this whole 'they are both as bad as each other' argument.

I hate Clinton and do believe she will be terrible in certain aspects but to even entertain the idea that Trump will be anything other than horrific and the greatest political mistake ever made if he becomes president is ridiculous and your continued efforts to ignore logical arguments makes me question your own beliefs regardless of your statement that you apparently wont vote for him.

That's a non-amswer, and you're excusing Trump's racism and violent rhetoric in doing so. Regardless of whether or not you intend to vote for the man.

So serious question. Is it actually a white supremacy group or is it just a pro Trump? If it is a legit hate group that would be disappointing. I ask this because most news stories I read this morning did not refer to it as such. Only that it was pro-Trump and attacking Hillary.

Any actual facts would be nice before grabbing my pitchfork and torch.

Plus Hillary has experience in office. Where as Trump hasn't done shit but bankrupt countless companies.

Why is being an asshole alright because you think someone should be able to take it according to their race, gender and sexual orientation? I don't think anyone likes being generalized, or better yet, lopped in with the bad guys, and I really don't see how calling out that specific thing takes away from the plight of all other ethnicities and sexual orientations.

If you aren't familiar with the subjects we're discussing, where do you get off telling other people to be careful about calling people white supremacists?

Instead of taking the time to shame people for accurately labeling the content of a place like r/the_donald, how about you figure out what this thread is even about?

Jesus christ dude, did I bite your nose off or something? I was talking about people specifically calling Palmer Luckeye a white supremacist.

Maybe you should go back to lurking if this is the quality of your posts. You are being taken by a 20+ year smear campaign by the Republican party against the Clinton family. The fact that you don't realize this is embarrassing. The fact that you bring up the DNC emails is very telling, considering there was doting damn in at all in any of those emails. You do realize that Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell, the 2 Republican Secretaries of State before Hillary Clinton handled their emails exactly the same way as she did right?

By all means, look at the Clinton policy page and look at the Trump policy page before you come in here with idiotic arguments of "Hurr Durr, they're both just as bad!"

I think it's pretty intuitive that you're more willing to excuse his racist and sexist rhetoric when you're not discriminated by it.

Sadly I know some one from Lebanon who is willing to excuse Trump's racism (and the fact that it would affect him) with the idea that Trump wouldn't be able to get anything done and he hates Hillary (who he thinks could get what she wants done) so he's voting Trump for the "at least this guy will be ineffective".

So yes, you even have people voting against their own interests (and they can't even deny that they are doing so!). You just have to convince them to hate the other side more (or at least make yourself look too incompetant to actually get what you want done apparently).

And that's the key point. Trump can say whatever he wants, but if he thinks he can just do whatever he wishes, then he doesn't know how the US presidency works. The reality is that even if he somehow wins, very little will actually happen because much like every other President have had to deal with in the past decade+, everything will just get blocked and gridlocked by Congress.

It's not that simple and most definitely not something that should be counted on. Even at the most basic level, there is the unknown to deal with. It's the people in power that are in the best position to guide the government's response and actions when time is right.

In addition, it doesn't have to be major. Even small policies and bills to modestly move in a direction add up over time. There will be plenty of people eager to get into a Trump administration and use his ego, ignorance about government and foreign policy and general irrational behavior to their advantage.

Irrelevant? Race =/= Religion

Not when you start treating anyone from middle-east, or who looks like one, as a muslim extremist. There have been many hate crimes against people who have been Christian or or even Sikhs, just because some thought they were muslim.

Man this thread has gone off the rails. Fact is simple, Palmer is at least to some loose extent associated with the Oculus VR product. Political lines aside, as hobbiests in the gaming world how do you feel being Latino, Black and/or Muslim buying a VR headset from someone who supports policies against you and who in the past (or his girlfriend) on twitter has said disparaging remarks on all of those groups of people..

It's about buying a product from a guy who is even a little bit the face of a tech company trying to make waves. Being an early adopter and supporter of these technologies with this in mind.

Because this is an election where the Republican candidate has advocated for torture, banning an entire religious group, creating a literal wall to keep out illegal immigrants and has the backing of millionaires who are part of the alt right movement that supports and encourages racism and white supremacy.

And you are focused on hurt feelings because a meme didn't include you as a white guy against Trump.

Really.

I don't doubt that some people are colossally stupid or horrible regardless, but that doesn't make sense. At least it makes some sense for a privileged person to not be bothered as long as their own privilege continues. It's deplorable, but at least seems logical.

I'll believe it when I see it, but my faith in our government actually getting things done is almost nil at this point.

Or, it's just sane.

You're reaching to create an equivalency so false I'm not even sure Trump would use such a defence.

Your hatred of Clinton and the democrats is making your points clouded to the point of opacity. There's a difference between normal campaign speak and Trump. Telling the truth is something that is an event with this guy, just check the non partisan fact checking sites.

I speak as a neutral who would've loved to see a Sanders vs Trump (Or Rubio or Kasich or frankly anyone else) fight. Instead we get a genuinely skilled politician steeped in a history or shit, vs omg what the fuck is this.

Again, comparing someone who courts moderate voters vs one who can't even disavow David Duke? Someone who revels in the support of the alt right vs someone who fights for equality and dignity no matter the race or creed? Yeah totally equivalent. If you can't understand the difference then you're either willfully ignorant or worse.

Again, Clinton has made many mistakes in her time, She is deeply flawed. She has also done a lot of good. I cannot say the same about Trump.

So now you're a racist asshole if you support the Republican nominee for president? Sure Palmer may have some different political views than the majority of us here on GAF, but you know what? That's fine. I personally will never vote for Donald Trump, but that doesn't mean I think Palmer is an asshole for doing so. We used to be able to have civilized political disagreements in this country. But now people's first reaction is to smear the other side, impugn their motives, and shut off honest, open debate. It's really sad. This tendency to instantly demonize the opposition is a bigger threat to American democracy than Trump ever will be.

The U.S. is funding Israel every day, and Israel is widely known to intentionally bomb hospitals.

I don't support Trump (I'm Hispanic and I'm not self-hating), but I also don't like seeing people dismiss the horrific things our government does, regardless of where they are on the political spectrum.
I think Israel does some pretty crappy things, so I'm not going to go all out defending them. I will say this about our support of Israel. Hamas is a known terrorist organization that is in control of Palestine. If the US had to support one or the other I'd much prefer it be Israel. This is another one of those lesser of two evil type situations. Hamas does far far worse.

Exactly, there is no way id buy anything from someone who is a racist, rapist and is knowingly helping to push forward awfup rhetoric for hatred or restricting the rights of others. I dont struggle anymore about liking the artist or seperating the person from their work its all connected.
