Yeah this is abysmal. im pretty sure this is a case of them lowballing employees because they know that they can always find someone who is willing to work for practically nothing in order to work in their 'dream industry'
Well, we have mandatory 24 vacation days (30 if you're working six days a week) and basically unlimited sick days, all fully paid. And still manage to have a great living standard, the best social security system in the world and one of the biggest economies in the world. Most companies offer 35 vacation days if you have a degree. So, yeah, a bit on the low side, US. 😉
I get better pay and more PTO (Vacation, Personal AND Sick) working retail SELLING the damn games. That is ridiculous.
Wow, perks?
Health insurance, retirement insurance?
In Europe, it's called the law. I am so glad I live where I live, I cannot believe Americans accept this crap.
12$ per hour is a lot more than the minimum wage in my country...
Makes me want to just kill myself sometimes to be honest. Entire situation needs an overhaul for actual livability. It's not just the games industry my friend. The entire system is fucked.
In Puerto Rico is $7.25 like the US. And the US suggested to lower it to $4.25 to at least people under 25 years old, because of the fuckups by the government.Your countries minimum wage couldn't pay for an apartment in LA by itself, assuming no other bills and no food.
No, just no. Jobs in Seattle pays $15 minimum for flipping burgers at McDonald's. >_>
OP, look for different job with better pay. Benefits may be good but it won't pay your home, food, etc.
from what i have heard, Europeans have a better standard for time off/PTO/sick days/holidays than here in America.

My last job was $7.25 at a store. This is me with a BA in graphic design (which amounted to nothing), working on customer service, sometimes until 4AM, carrying over 400lbs sometimes 24 times a day (with a crappy palletjack at least), cleaning bathrooms, doing dishes, trash, cashier, training, inventory, etc...
...and no healthcare, vacations when they approved them (which in my case was never and ended with 45 days accumulated in nearly 5 years) and sicks days were non-existent.
Which is why this $12 jobs sound great to me actually. That and healthcare alone would be great. But a gym and even catering every month, snacks...foood!!!![]()
edit: whats the difference betwenn vacation and personal day? When happens when you are sick and run out of sick days?

Yeah that pay seems pretty low. The benefits are a little bit better.
A bachelor's degree and all those responsibilities and bilingual for $12 an hour though? Lol fuck that. Man this industry has problems.
For the requirements that would be commensurate with a better value than that.Do you really think an entry level job as a social media manager is worth over $80,000 a year?
Honestly is 10 vacation days considered normal out there in America?
Here in the UK I started out on 23 days, bank holidays and 6 sick days. Others have much more where there are no limits on paid sick.
It varies by person. So one that might get a job that pays $2k a month won't necessarily pay $2k in rent every month. But how much would you expect to pay on rent? $12 an hour gets you roughly $2000 a month. A one bedroom apartment in LA can run 2k and up by itself.
Of course.I'm in Puerto Rico as well. I have a Bachellors degree in IT but I worked a $7.25 job for 5 years(not related to IT) with no benefits. Now of course the cost of living here is super low and that $7.25 goes a long way. A $12 job seems pretty good over here, trust me i know how good it sounds to us here lol but for living in the states it's truly horrible.
Definitely, both the gaming and vfx industry.Yeah it's normal. And it's a big reason why the gaming industry could use unionization.
As someone that's worked in the games industry for over 12 years, that seems very very low for the type of work they're asking for. I was getting paid 12 bucks an hour as a tester back in 2003 before I landed my first "pro" job as an artist.
12x40= 480 a week
480x4 = 1920 a month, then take out 33% for taxes leaves you with 1267 every month for all your expenses in Los Angeles... good luck with that.

Holy shit.. 12$ an hour and only 10 vacation days? After getting my master's degree I started out with 26 vacation days and even that is considered quite low in Germany.
