I get paid more than that for a position that required a bachelor's degree with significantly better benefits (I already have over 2 weeks of vacation time built up and get more added weekly based on how much I work, also have employer paid health care with free doctor visits, discounted gym memberships and much more) in an area with about 1/4 the cost of living of California and I'm considered underpaid for what I do.
