
NEW YORK -- Nets coach Jason Kidd has been fined $50,000 for appearing to intentionally drop a cup of soda on the court late in Wednesday night's loss to the Lakers, the league announced Thursday.
With 8.3 seconds left and his team out of timeouts, Kidd, who was holding a cup of soda, appeared to say "hit me" to point guard Tyshawn Taylor in order to stop the game so the team could draw up a last-second offensive play.
NEW YORK -- J.R. Smith said the New York Knicks are mentally "frustrated" and that he is panicking after they lost their fourth straight game.
The Knicks' 103-96 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday was the team's sixth in a row at Madison Square Garden.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Los Angeles Lakers acknowledged he could return Friday in Sacramento if he feels ready after a week of practices.
Los Angeles has no games between Sunday and Friday.
