We are already friends83733580
It's just an easy way to find a specific someone, instead of searching their username, which people can change.Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve done multiplayer PC gaming… since when does Steam have friend codes? Didn’t y’all give Nintendo so much shit about this back in the day?
Let’s not pretend that somehow a string of randomized numbers is easier to remember or search for than someone’s username. It's just an easy way to find a specific someone, instead of searching their username, which people can change.
Who's saying anything about remembering? And yes it is easier to search for because your player name can be the exact same as someone else's, like if I search for "sasuke" there's 70000 results, how do you expect to find the correct one without more information?Let’s not pretend that somehow a string of randomized numbers is easier to remember or search for than someone’s username.
To be fair Wii and DS implementation was terrible as it was generated per game and then required both users to type in each others firendcodes to complete the handshake, this implementation has permanently tainted the term "friendcode".Let’s not pretend that somehow a string of randomized numbers is easier to remember or search for than someone’s username.
I mean, I’m cool with the friend code. I just remember a time where people pissed all over Nintendo for implementing them. It’s just funny to me that we’ve come back around.
Guys you are giving me flashbacks to ICQ, 10878332.
Seriously, Steam uses numerical identifiers? Where do you even find that ? I thought it was based on usernames.
Agree, friendcodes themselves aren't bad - it's the surrounding implementation and online environment (closed) that is the problem IMO.To be fair Wii and DS implementation was terrible as it was generated per game and the required both users to type in each others firendcodes to complete the handshake, this implementation has permanently tainted the term "friendcode".
People who still moan about them probably haven't used a Nintendo device since then or realise that Steam has been using it for quite a while.
What is it for? Is it some sort of privacy mechanism so you don't have to post your username? I don't really get the purpose of it.Just click your name and then go to "Add a Friend".
Gives you:
Your friendcode
A Field to enter a friendcode
An option to generate a link to share
or you can just search for their name
