A Deep Dive Into the Cancelled PS2 Action/Horror Game "Fear Effect: Inferno" (Video)

The two PS1 games that make up the Fear Effect series are looked back on fondly by those who've gone through them, but many fans from the time are still disappointed knowing its PS2 sequel "Inferno" never saw the light of day. It was incredibly ambitious and had a great concept behind its story. A beta was uncovered for the game a year ago and we surprisingly have tons of storyboards and scripts to use to piece together the narrative they were going for during development. This video goes into all of that, detailing the progression in both levels and storyline. Are you one of those fans who was excited to play this game two decades ago? Do you think it made sense to cancel it? How do you think it would have compared to the original games? Did you like what a new team did with Sedna back in 2018? If you're someone who hasn't played these games, how does Inferno look to you? Does it make you want want to the original games to find out what the hell they were building off of in the PS2 game? I hope you enjoy!

The first game was supposed to get a rerelease but I'm not sure what happened with that.
Limited Run Games (LRG) and Square Enix released a trailer 9 months ago:

And they have been radio silent since then. My guess is that they will do a shadow drop during one of the Summer Games Fest showcases.

This franchise deserved so much better. The first two games are great and - if you like RE-style games - are still really good. I had high hopes for the remaster that Forever Entertainment was working on, but then they turned it into some shithouse third-person cover shooter or something like that... I'm guessing that got scrapped. Sedna was laughable. This got cancelled.

There just ain't no justice in this world, man.

I loved Disc 1 of Fear Effect 1. Really wish they would have ditched the whole Supernatural angle and went full Sci-Fi Crime Thriller.

I remember this game for reasons that aren't gaming, lol.

Didn't part 1 have like 4 discs? That was a big deal back then for a Final Fantasy baby like me.

Yeah, but only because the whole game had FMV pre-rendered backgrounds, not because it was a lengthy game. The only thing that was lengthy was my penis, pre-bust.

I loved both games immensely and was dissapointed inferno never got released.
I actually played them both on hard in like 2000 and something to get the secret endings which was great fun.
The style, the story, puzzles and the gameplay was so good.

Sedna was awful and should not exist.

If inferno did release I would have liked them to keep the fmv backgrounds and the awesome death scenes.
Keep it mature and violent with sex, drugs and booze and the sarcasm and dark humour.

I don't think many people played it back in the day so not sure if inferno would have been a success,(would have probalbly killed the series completely)but for the fans it would have been a nice last goodbye to a fantastic series.

Both games had 4 discs, with the second requiring a lot more disc swapping. That was gonna be one of the great things about Inferno. One disc and higher quality pre-renders.
