I never played them through always felt like I was playing something I shouldn't have been and never understood the loop. You guys play em?

I had a friend who was really into the first one. I remember watching him fight this guy called Piggy. The guy went after you with a chainsaw.

I think the PS2 version let you hook up a headset and listen to the director (or whatever he was called) via your headphones. That was meant to be an immersive feature.

Definitely came out at a time when Rockstar was trying a bunch of different stuff.

Manhunt 2 was AO so was a PC only release?

Edit : it also was set in Carcer City. This was after GTA3 and that city was referenced in 3. So people trying to figure out if part of a shared universe.

Yeah. Absolutely crazy games now thinking back on it. I was suffocating people with plastic bags in this game when I was 15. It was pretty dark shit, a bit like “the running man” if I remember correctly. I do love that film with Schwarzenegger, it’s a classic.

Edit: talking absolute crap really I love violent video games, I’m not being a complete killjoy 😂. I’m just saying that the violence in these games were attempting to be more lifelike and real but now we have TLOU2 so I don’t even know what I’m talking about. I’ve played that game multiple times and slitting people’s throats is way worse than this 😂

I retract my statement, the point I was trying to make is just that there is too much real life violence on social media etc. now it’s just become trivialised. At least in games it is 100% fiction and pixels.

yes, have played the first one only, i remember liking it, caused a big fuss at the time because of the violence and setting being more "realistic" compared to say the over the top stuff in a mortal kombat. Played more like a horror/stealth game than a action game.

like a commenter above said, rockstar would try different things back then, now theyre basically gta/red dead only

Good games, I never finished 2, I was 70% complete... I should go back to it, they are great games... But no one would dare to develop another game

I was 13/14 when these came out, was too much for me then, not into excessive horror/violent games.

I remember the controversy it caused, like most Rockstar games during early 2000s.

Yeah, I love them. Just like any respectable horror film franchise, the first one is a masterclass in atmosphere and pushing boundaries for the media, while the second one just takes the concept and tries to make the most explotaitive thing possible.

I still have part 1. Plays on Series consoles. Replayed it a year ago actually and it still holds up.

I think I might own part 2 on Wii. Never played it.
