Apple considering purchase of Intel

For the fab capacity, maybe? I also don’t believe this but if you were to do it now would be the time. Intel is weak.

WHY!!?
There are various sharks in the water at the moment and all of them want the intel fab's and really don't want the actual desktop CPU side of the business. I can see Apple wanting to reduce or eventually remove the need of TMSC services completely.

Big news if true but why ? Isn’t Apple silicon supposed to kick ass ?

The h wait fab as in fabrication? Pretty expensive to buy just for that.

Is AMD the chip leader now ?

I have no love for Intel, but as they are only doing poorly, not going under, I do not support a takeover of them.

And I doubt any US regulator would allow it, for security reasons and after all the money they have gotten from the CHIPS Act.

TSMC. But there’s uncertainty about Taiwan geopolitically and TSMC takes on an enormous amount of contract production for electronics worldwide. Arguably too centralized.

I've been following this row for a cool 10 years. TSMC and the tech held within is probably the number 1 reason for taking Taiwan. Number 2 would be actual reunification. I don't believe the CCP bs for the life of me.

Cool, more megacorps! Seems no one gives a shit about regulating these fucking monopolistic pricks. Antitrust laws seem pretty useless with all the regulatory capture anyways.

If Apple bought Intel then you could pretty much kiss goodbye to the PC market.

Apple would hike the prices of all x64 chips and or phase them out entirely in favour of their own ARM based chips.

Someone like Apple might have enough guaranteed volume to make a play, but owning your own fans is sooo incredibly expensive that it is a heavy gamble (does even Apple or Samsung or Qualcomm have enough volume alone to make good use of Intel’s fabs and to keep evolving them?) even if TSMC may overcharge you from time to time (they can negotiate better than many and their customers do not seem to mind being passed down the extra cost as much as others).

Apple might see the “manufactured in the U.S.” government subsidies (CHIPS act and the like) and Intel is a bargain at the moment perhaps, but the whole semiconductors segment is not in the best and most varied place.

ASML and TMSC are filling some enormously key roles. The former is the sole world supplier of key lithographic equipment and the latter has the world’s companies trust and business that makes them comfortable in updating their fabs and investing in semiconductors manufacturing processes like almost no other. They continuously iterate and ship, iterate and ship…

Apple has no interest to sell any chips to the PC market. You would still have AMD fabbing with TSMC and now Qualcomm with their high performance and volume Orion designs.

I wonder if they would just dump off x86 or give the rights to amd or something

In 2005, Intel was planning to buy Nvidia for 20B dollars.
Maybe now, Nvidia could buy Intel.

On a more serious note, I really doubt Apple would have any intrest in buying Intel.
Samsung, maybe. But not very likely.
The real candidate is Qualcomm. They already showed interest in that.
All the while, they are in a huge dispute with ARM over licensing. So Buying Intel and it's IP, could be a way out.

Whoever replaces Tim Cook as CEO, when Tim retires, I believe is 100%, the Merger and Acquisition CEO.

I believe we will see Apple actually start buying other companies.

We always see whales mentioned (Nintendo, Disney, Nike, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ford, Tesla, and now Intel). It will be very interesting to see if they actually acquire a Whale. Or if they look for startups and companies on the rise.

Clearly the Apple VR Headset is not a hit, and I am sure that stings Cook’s ego a bit. But a some point, Apple will start spending that cash. It will be interesting to see what happens with anti-trust and how Apple is able to expand.

Side Note: With the upcoming crash in “services” it will be interesting to see how Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News all rebrand themselves going forward.

And as since…well…forever, it will be interesting to see what Apple does with gaming.
