If the Extraction Shooter genre is going to be the next big thing, we'll know after 2025's batch of ARC Raiders, Marathon, Exoborne, and Black Budget. Tomorrow, we're getting a tech test for the first one out of the gate.

Game looks pretty cool in small gameplay snippets they have shown. Definitely graphically impressive. I'm curious what the gameplay loop is. Because if I remember correctly it's PvE with PvP elements. I would be more hyped for this game if Helldivers 2 didn't exist. Extraction shooters about to come out in droves

I have a feeling a good portion of that "gameplay" (the wide open, mountainous spaces) won't be in the game. That gameplay was from the early PvE concept from a few years back. All the new gameplay seems to feature dense city like environments.

Very few impressions so far but it's not looking good / a ways off. Here's a few from the subreddit...

"Has potential but nothing to write home about. it feels very... meh. fun for a few games but gets very stale & repetitive very quickly. beautiful graphics, environment & overall aesthetic but they have a lot of work to do and i definitely don't see a 2025 release for it."

"Honest rating? 6/10 (This is from someone who played in previous playtest)

Graphically looks good but gameplay is lackluster. Shooting is underwhelming along with the "attachments" and in pvp the combat doesn't really give you that adrenaline rush you would get when playing other extraction pvp games. Pve aspect is okay with variety of enemies but I couldn't find myself caring about them, just seems more of a nuisance dealing with then actually wanting to fight. Also looting still seems lackluster and can tell for people who are new you can't really tell half the time what is lootable unless you see the interaction key pop up.

Hope they have something else they haven't really showed off later because seeing what it has to offer now and the concept its going for I don't think this is it chief. Then throw in $40 price tag I think people will pass this one. We've seen other games follow the EFT train b2p and didn't end well.

Also seems like there is aim assist now or something even for mouse and keyboard (dont have controller plugged in). Aiming at the head off to the side will still make the crosshair lock on to the head, kinda wild to see."

"3 / 10 ish

I feel like it's going to be dead within 3 months of launch.

It looks pretty, and controls well - but it doesn't do anything special to stand out, at all.

I played for about 3 hours and I feel zero excitement or reason to load it back up."

I guess it switched genres in the 2nd half of 2022 so perhaps it's just really early. Maybe a 2026 release.

Shame because it looks the part. Still plenty of time to get thing right though so it stays on my radar for now.

I think Bungie will be in touch to get you to change your avatar mate you seem to be the kiss of death for the games you back, Concord, now this. Hopefully your 3rd time lucky 😂

Initial trailer looked great. Had a destiny co-op campaign mixed with helldivers vibe. Was def up for that. Hearing the switched away from a pve with friends focus I’ve been cold on it

It really saddens me that so many good ideas, so many resources and talent are wasting so much time on ephemeral games that will be forgotten in months. How many games as a service have to fail before we return to traditional video games?

That's unfortunate, had some high hopes for this one.

So it's apparently quite hard to make an extraction shooter of some kind that is fun to play. It seems whenever PvP is involved it's all focused on that part and the looting and PvE is seen as just 'in the way'.
They should make PvE the actual focus somehow and have players occasionally pit against each other.

In the end it's probably just all about the stakes involved. Developers are often too hesitant to actually punish the players for losing, making the whole ordeal just toothless.
You get killed and you lose some gear that you can just replace in an instant. Whatever.

Now if actually dying could set you back a bunch and winning means a big step forward it could make everything 10x more intense.

Because every single "traditional" game is a banger right?

When someone farts out another Gollum we have you to thank.

Yes, and Concord, Marvel's Avengers, Suicide Squadron, Anthem, TLOU online, Horizon MMO, etc. and those yet to come from major studios, we thank you.
OK, well done you named 4 games that were not very good. The other two your scraping the barrel as one never existed and the other has yet to release. Its not exclusive to GAAS you know.

Gotham Knights, Calisto Protocol, Star wars Outlaws, Mass effect Andromeda. Mafia 3, Crackdown 3 etc etc all single player shite. Why you not moaning about those?. Theres shit games everywhere mate, just because you're on the "I hate GAAS for no particular reason" bandwagon, doesn't mean we all have to be.

Personally I like a decent GAAS. COD just dropped and will keep me entertained all year for the price of admission. Should they have made something else because reasons?

For every hit in this industry there are 20 misses, regardless of the type of game.

There's too many of these games. And they call kind of share the same aesthetics thematically. They are all colorful, look decent graphically but don't really have the smoothest of animations, are set in some kind of dystopian future.

It's just getting old. Sure you can play them indefinitely for years, but they are repetitive after about an hour.

They have less replayability to me than something like the campaigns from Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2. Sure their stories are repetitive and they only have about 10 hours of gameplay but at least games like these have silly ragdolls and really cool varied animations that you may not see on your first or even second play through.

I'd rather have a choice of 5 games like that than 20 bland extraction/battle royal shooters.

Too many extraction shooters? While this one isn't looking too promising right now, there are not many options on console, especially with DMZ being sent to die.

What else is there? The Hunt? Off the Grid just recently showed up i suppose as well.

Launching a beta the same weekend as BLOPS6 is one way to kill your game.
Its a free limited tech test on PC only. Not every person in the world plays COD, I don't think they will struggle to get players.

Not just extraction but just these in general multiplayer games with these huge maps that are just so generic. Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, The Finals and all the games that spur off of these games.

They all look generally the same to me. Bland and un-defined in their theming.

Hey game might be pretty decent then if this is your opinion

It just looks exactly like PUBG lmao.

All these post 2017 multiplayer games are so fucking boring, it's all the same generic shit, why do people waste their time with them?

Something like Battlefield 1 is interesting because of the historical setting but everything multiplayer ever since has followed this incredibly generic style.

Is this one of those moments where someone is woefully unaware of the amount of single player games that just released in the past two years, or is your news algorithm completely messed up to where you only see multiplayer games on your feed?

Thus look nothing like PUBG, what are you smoking ?

So many Debbie Downers around here Christ almighty. I'm not happy about the change of direction but really enjoy THE FINALS by the same Dev so will give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Keen to check it out myself when it comes to console.

It not even close to release what are you talking about?
80% of GAF has the futuresight perk unlocked. However, the perk only works on game genres you dislike.

Some other posters have found an exploit and take advantage of this by preemptively disliking everything.

Was interest to see a bit of it but that video was removed

I've found this one:

Thanks for this!

I'm liking what I'm seeing. It looks pretty polished / finished to me. I'm digging the relatively slow player movement and the map interactivity. I just need to see some more PvP engagements before I get the tattoo on my lower back.

Also, really hoping they give us a reason why we're trying to power up our characters.
