Assassin's Creed Shadows officially has surpassed the launches of AC Origins and AC Odyssey according to UbiSoft

Ok, so worse than Valhalla, and possibly still worse than Origins and/or Odyssey in $ terms once you consider all of those players would have been sales (I think there was no subscription option for those two?)
Yes, 2 millions players is not 2 million sales. Numbers would probably be lower but not that much, ubisoft plus is region locked, my country for example doesnt have it and its 20 bucks a month in some places. Game is still gonna sell but nothing compared to others

This also seems like an admission that it isn’t selling as well as Vahalla. But the post is so vague we don’t even know what metrics they’re comparing.

Wasn’t Valhalla around launch and during Covid? Launch window games almost always have inflated sales. I got Valhalla during a buy 2 get 1 sale at Target and haven’t even played it.

AC Valhalla was the biggest launch in the franchise's history which was helped in big part by the increased spending on gaming during the height of the pandemic and also by the launch of the current gen consoles. I'm not sure how AC Shadows is supposed to beat that.

Regardless, the word of mouth is strong since it's a good game, and it will continue to sell well over this weekend, in the coming months, and during the holidays

Where is Matt Piscatella telling me that Console sales are doing better than PC sales? I jest, but it's hard to just go by Steam numbers for certain games

Did day 1 games exist on Ubisoft+ for Odyssey and Origins?

As the replies on this page show it could sell 100M copies in one day and there will still be goalpost moving to call it a failure.
To be fair the game does need to actually sell a shit ton of copies to turn a profit due to Ubis current situation. I hate them for it as well cause I love the Farcry and Division series and they've screwed them up and wasted so much money on chasing trends that ultimately fail.

They are being very deliberate in their language - you have to learn to understand what they are actually saying in these announcements. If the sales were worth shouting about they would probably be doing that, instead of using 'players' while comparing a game where an unknown % of 'players' are sales to games where every player was a sale.

It may have sold better than Origins and/or Odyssey, but we cannot yet determine this from the information they have provided.

I figured it would be a hit. All this only mattered to a minority of chronically online folks and some who are culture warriors.
Once again, the writing room has saved the gameplay designers from criticism. If Yasuke was a Japanese fella this game would still have embarrassing combat more than a decade past its expiration.

Eh not necessarily. Celebrating the number of “players” of a game is more tactful and community friendly than talking about how many units you sold.

I mean I get it you love the game but come on, no need to be like that.

There’s been a store in AC since UNITY. Everyone ignores it.
Not everyone is ignoring it. And the game is designed with that in mind so you need to grind for ressources, but thankfully you can buy them on the store! How nice of Ubisoft. And what about this powerful as fuck sword? It's only 3.99 you don't want it?

And it's not because it's there since Unity that I'm ok with it. Not to mention it was not as intrusive as it is now.

AC Japan is by far the most demanded one for as long as AC has been around. It should have quite comfortably been able to outperform Valhalla imo, and probably would have if they hadn't fumbled it.

It was more intrustive in previous AC games where you had to actually pay money to reduce the grinding. Thankfully this game doesn't have that. The rest of it is in the store, but it isn't like the game is advertising as you play. It isn't a big deal.

I want this game to succeed just to mess with the fucking cancel culture we have right now.
Is anyone lobbying their employers to fire them? Seems a little different to me. One side just makes funny memes, mocks them and doesn't buy their product. The other sets cars on fire and harasses HR departments until people are fired and debanked. Canceled is far too broad a term in the context you're using it.

Yes a publicly traded company is lying about their new product doing better than two previous launches.
But the question in which areas is it doing better... it may have surpassed previous entries with how quickly it gathered enough PLAYERS. But is it stronger in terms of actual sold copies?

I mean sure, people buying Ubisoft+ for a month or two is still good news for them, but not going to beat spending 80+ dollars on a copy of the game.

How is it intrusive? You never see it.
I do in fact, stop assuming things.

Nah, at best it's the same as Valhalla and Odyssey which were already terrible. But no, I know it's even worse this time. And I don't need to explain, just open the store and look at all the bullshit.

This plus the fact that the game is designed to favorize those microtransactions is a no go for me. But hey if you are fine with it, good for you! I'm not trying to convince you, just telling my opinion that's it.

Edit: and the grind is still totally here! Idk what you saw but wait a bit until you need to upgrade your hideout...
