Assassin's Creed Shadows Preview (Hands on) and Description

People play AC games for story? News to me.
I used to as well, and I actually was into the whole 'aftermath' post-Desmond stuff they were going for in Black Flag and beyond, but then once they dropped that thread again for Origins, I lost track and just cared about only the historical fiction aspect of the series.

If we ignore that Yas is more versitile and has more in combat but that seems weird. Why would we ignore one grouping and say its 1 thing, then break down the other grouping into many aspects. Especially when you can indeed do stealth with him as well as limited parkour. If we count out(as we should) then counting both sides is the only way a comparison could be made.

For example if we say he is hulk smash ONLY then she is Stealth only. But neither are remotely real. While someone may LIKE stealth more or LIKE smashing more, which is fine, it doesn't add weight when discussing the actual things done.

I can't speak towards the other games issues. I have had my own with Valhalla and Origins.
How can you stealth with yusuke if he is too big to pass throught some tight spaces\secret passages and especially when his "silent kill" alert all the enemies around because the enemy start screaming?

Unless other previews lied about his stealth kill alerting all the enemies in the area, i have no idea how you can stealth with him, imagine waiting entire minutes until every target is completely alone in a 20 mt radius, sound extremely tedius or downright unfeasible in the more crowded areas.

And the dude from the footage look pretty shitty at parkour aswell, it's not just him looking slow, he downright can't reach some eagle high points and straigh up tell you to use naoe...how in the hell is ok to switch characters to climb a simple eagle point in an ac game??

(Not mad at you, just pointing out what a lot of people think)

About the police system, shill up says there is none but in another preview you can see samurai police confronting yosuke even just because he has his sword unsheathed and they tell him to sheathe, and you can say yes or kiss my ass and start combat, are you telling me that the police is angry for a sheathed sword but not if you kill innocents? Dafuq??
 
Previews being great is a similar thing to Valhalla, nothing to gloat about. But man, I'd be lying if I said everything about it looks improved judging from what the video previews say. Yes, exploration looks tidier now and the environments actually seem quite nice, packed and detailed and stealth is finally getting the love it deserves.

But damn, does the combat look like the most uninspired, clunky thing I've ever seen. Dodges, blocks, perfect parries, light and heavy attacks and that's it and some of those "fill the meter to execute" special attacks. No stances or more complex combos, especially from this buff looking "Samurai" warrior, who's supposedly the strongest and most robust character in any AC game to date...and yet, his animations lack polish and his hits look like they lack weight.

What else is there to know? What Ubisoft provides in the previews is basically it, you've basically seen it all, sans the full story mode obviously. For all their attempts to make believable environments that feel lived in, those npc's are some of the most plastic, mannequin looking Ai's I've ever laid my eyes on. Wtf are those? Loading screens, for character switching, in 2025? Come on now, you have all that ssd power from that current gen only game and yet pop ins and loading screens are still present.

I‘m guessing that they are sticking with the „Yasuke is a Samurai“ trope. Samurai where basically above the law and could kill any peasant that „disrespected“ them. Although, there must have been some kind of limit and repercussions if they failed to explain themselves to their superiors
However, it also does feel a bit like: „we can’t have a black man be chased and attacked by the law“.
Who knows what they were really thinking; nothing surprises me anymore.
Tenet #1: Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent.

Yasuke completely disregards that law.

Yasuke cant climb shit, why would you even want to play with him then in an ASSASSINS CREED game????

I literally saw videos of yasuke killing regular mofos with one charged heavy blow with the voice over confirming it.

Of course you are not gonna kill armoured enemies with one blow, it would suck if that was the case.

Naoe look really fun and seems to cover everything you would want for an AC game in japan, the samurai look boring as hell tho, why did they even bother with him is incomprehensible, what a waste of budget, why Naoe isnt just the lead of the game ?

graphics look solid for an AC game, look way better than any previous entry, except maybe unity

I saw yasuke oneshotting regular normies with an heavy charged hit with the big baseball bat, i think it was the acg preview.

Different weapons\moves have different damages, tsushima before the lethal difficulty was added had enemies tanking 4-5-6 katana hits (and i'm pretty sire that some enemies still take a lot of hits) i would hate a game where everything dies in 1-2 hit no matter the type of enemy or weapon you use or armour they use, this is not bushido blade or half sword that are hyper realistics, these are still action RPG thay have to differentiate a katana from a big club in term of damage even if in reality they would both kill in 1 hit.

I guess i'm not so disturbed by slightly tanky enemies and you can still lower the difficulty or tailor the damage you do\enemy life like in valhalla.

Assassins Creed used to be about 1 hit kills.

Now it's just bullet sponge trash like every other 'rpg' under the sun.

Oh ok i absolutely despise the old combat systems so much that i returned ac2 after 4-6 hours and basically ignored the saga until they went with light souls so we definitely like opposite things, (briefly tried unity for 2 hours, puked my intestines out and never played again).

But like i said, you can oneshot mofos with heavy charged attacks, just not heavy armoured dudes or special enemies.

P.s. it definitely wasn't always one hit to kill even in past games, some enemies required more hits even back in the days.

Like any ARPG ? This was an armored enemy, you can see his armor breaking after the first or second hit, that’s a nice detail.
I’ve also seen Yasuke one-shotting other enemies, it’s all right, it’s not a samurai simulation. xD
PS : the ninja chick is closer to original AC in terms of gameplay, I think its nice to have 2 options here, players can pick what they like the most ?

Enemies having power levels is such a dumb fucking idea especially for a more duel-based combat style as this.

"O no this random enemy is 10 levels higher than me, now I have to whack him with my katana 1000 times"

A burning candle placed on the underneath floor, under a wooden house, so you can see when doing stealth shit. This game is as dumb as its directors.

man you are so dumb, thats not for the player to see, thats an old floor heater system and it was so efficiency that would heat all the house with just some candles underneath the wooden floor.

MMaRsu MMaRsu Since today's devs believe in individual difficulty sliders, I'm hoping I can change the enemy damage slider to 200% and my own damage to 200% to make fights feel much more tense like Deadliest Warrior/Bushido Blade.

Would be cool but I highly doubt it would be a rewarding experience since this would only work on 1-on-1 scenarios or if the game has highly robust and polished combat, and Shadows has neither.

Look at that footage posted above with the 6 npcs ganging up on you and flopping all over the place and imagine getting oneshotted as soon as one of them hits you with one of those janky bullshit moves.

Yeah. Also before people say veilguard was the same. Nah bro, Da V even annoyed the actual fans, as in the people who replay the games constantly every year. Ac Shadows seems like exactly what ass creed was before and nothing outwardly 'triggering' to the normies.

Wtf, why are enemies such sponges, is that a level 1 character in a high level area? That first girl took about 85 hits to kill and I didn't see a boss health bar.

UI seems disabled in that video, that's why you don't see a health bar (or anything UI-related).

Bandit camps typically have one or more "elite" enemies who have indeed more health. And the game has difficulty settings to give enemies even more health.

The fight with that girl at the start was a bossfight, btw.
