Assassin's Creed Shadows Preview (Hands on) and Description

We don't know if it's obvious woke. It's not to me
Was The Last Samurai woke for US marine to become Samurai in Japan?
At least it's an opening for interesting story.

If they did it for woke points, then the story will suck ass and it will be clear.
In part I agree with you. I even mentioned in the past that Yasuke’s story seems interesting if executed well. But all the knowledge we gathered these past years about a lot of things I think it’s not surprising that we are skeptical about it. And based on what has been going on it would be reaaaally surprising if this was executed well. I’m 100% sure if there was no BLM and things related to that then this game would have a Japanese male as protagonist. But I’m also 100% sure that it will be filled with other woke nonsense as well. And if not, it’s because they dial it down due to the deserved backlash.

but think about it.... what poor image? why?
This is the most artificial, manufactured hate campaign I've seen in a long time.
Asmongols hates this game. He watches every preview material and shits on it. Even if he watches a great trailer he likes all he manges to say is "not terrible".

Everyone hates this game. It is dead on arrival. We know there is no saving it.
But why? Because the dude is black? Or because he is a samurai... a person whom past is not well known is a cool samurai dude in a video game. And somehow people are mad?
It's a franchise about aliens and recreating ancient memories as a video game in-universe.
I realize the franchise might have a lot of problems. Not a fan myself but I cannot see a HONEST real reason why people hate this other than because other people hate it.
Now it's too late and no influencer will change course because they will be labeled woke.

Seriously. Black ninja used to be cool concept (afro samurai anyone?)
And I think it could be an awesome coming of age /isekai story type with how challenging it will be for him to become a "samurai" or whatever they will call it.
There are ton of other samurai samurai games.

Yeah maybe the combat is iffy? But that's not the real hate reason. People hated it way before they showed any gamepaly. Because you play as a black dude. that's all there is to it.
I am the last person to be woke. I hate woke shit... but people are just racist about this one and invent ton of nonsense reasons to hate on it.
Genuinely thinking about buying AC game new for first time in a long time just because the story might be interesting.
Reasons generally lack relevance. Perception is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

Game has been mired in controversy and is simply seen as deeply uncool on the internet. Turning that ship is no small task and the narrative needed to shift to how amazing it all turned out…alas, was not to be during the previews.

This is what shilling and toxic positivity literally looks like, but nope, apparently we're just jumping on the hate wagon...

Media = absolutely zero credibility, Z-E-R-O I'm telling you, everyone's a used car salesman.

They gave Suicide Squad a 67/100 in that review you’re quoting.
Concord eventually reviewed at 45% at PC gamer. Veilguard at 79%. All pre launch reviews.

Is that what counts for ‘shilling’ and ‘toxic positivity’ these days?

Sorry if I am wrong. I don't remember a lot about the movie. maybe it's a stupid example.
But I did asked chatgpt to remind me :p

Yeah, AI bot makes a pretty big leap there. He learns their customs and comes to respect them (and likewise earns their respect), but he never formally becomes a samurai or is acknowledged as one. The title refers to the Japanese leader of the rebellion and the rest of his clan, not Cruise’s character.

How can there be controversy without a reason

Maybe it’s similar in ac …

Ubisoft really doesn't know what the fuck they are doing...

That luke stephens dude asked why you can't advance the time of day and they told him that they expect players to adapt to the situation and not manipulate the environment to have an easier life so if forcexample the winter season freeze bushes and make stealth more difficult you have to adapt...too bad there is literally a function to move from a season to another even if you lost the ability to switch from night to day and viceversa :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Then the same dude asked why you don't have bird to signal enemies in an enemy camp and they told him that they want the player to pay attention about how guard moves etc. Without just putting icons on their head that you can see throught walls...except naoe has eagle vision, can see enemy though walls and mark them like the bird does so you can see them through walls, it's just more slow to do:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

This show how fragmented the development of this game must have been when they fucking contradict themself so easily, they don't have a clear vision of what they want to achieve.
They got rid of a lot of nice stuff from the past games, no more animal enemies, no more torches, no more npcs having schedule with bed time or enemies piling the corpse inside camps etc.

Some step forward, some steps back.

Mine for ACG
Seriously almost strangely impressed as shit. Especially as I have had so many issues with the prior games in this trilogy and some of what they have done.

Your preview made me more excited for it. Still iffy on how this will turnout, but at least now I will attempt to play it.

I assume you have internet access posting on Neogaf, yet you’ve missed the many controversies surrounding this game??
Like what? It's all nonsense
-booo hooo yasuke was not really a samurai!!! Who know?! nobody. But it doesn't matter
-Watermelons and cherry blossoms at the same time?! NOOOO that's incorrect!!!!
-The tori gate is broken?! It must be the nuclear torn tori gate!!! DEVS DONT KNOW WHAT JAPAN IS...

cmon... it's all fake searching for controversy. The truth is the game looks just fine. Probably as boring and repetitive as any ac game but imo the graphics look good, story seems promising and combat looks better than previous ac games

Damn... I can tolerate the boring dialogues and the robotic facial animations that reminds me of Mass Effect Andromeda... But the combat seems too clunky for me.

There's a case to be made to have two playable characters in a game, but making Yasuke this huge brute who's basically nerfed because he can't climb fast and shouts loudly after every assassination and is stuck in his massive samurai armor is such a bizarre decision and probably a huge mistake.

It's not even about him being black or whatever, gameplay-wise it's just dreadful to look at because you can see the game is actively working against you by making it more clunky than usual. Every AC protagonist is nimble and fast, can climb easily, can sneak efficiently and keep stealth going by assassinating guards. But here Yasuke is slow and meandering, screams after he assassinates someone (why is this a thing??) even when he's in the middle of infiltrating an area. Seeing this huge guy in full samurai battle armor crawl through some grass to stay hidden is just ridiculous.

The game is making things more difficult, annoying and obtuse for literally no reason.

So bizarre. I don't even understand how this happens.

And the combat, sheesh. I've played a lot of Tsushima, Sekiro and Rise of Ronin lately so my point of view is skewed but good lord the combat looks dreadful.

It is one of the most bizarre decisions I've seen in this series. You are actively being punished for playing as him. Even AC focused channels have voiced how the world seems to be built for Naoe, who checks all the boxes of what an AC protag should be able to do, with extra additions like being the fastest character they've ever made and what not. Meanwhile Yasuke can't do anything outside of combat and is slow. At times, when you want to climb a tower, Yasuke literally tells you to switch to Naoe instead. It's a real headscratcher for sure, makes you question why he's there in the first place.

I am not overly fond of this series, but the location alone for this game is worthy of my dollars. I had a good time with the previous game Mirage, although I didn't complete it. It was a nice change compared to Valhalla's expanded size, which I also did not complete. I am hoping the setting is enough to get me through the story at least once. Origins and Odyssey both had my interest with the setting alone, and those I saw through to the end!

It’s all part of the ongoing culture wars. Gamers have grown cynical of entertainment products deliberately missing the mark and prioritising attempts to “balance” culture.

The backlash is no different to the USA election rejecting equity and diversity for a color blind approach based on merit.

One may disagree this game has taken an identity politics stance, but to many it certainly feels it.

Didn't watched yet.

Have to admit that this youtuber here makes a great showcase of the combat, much better than other youtubers. But the animations are still very far away from the greatness of Ghost of Tsushima. The hit reactions for instance, they are not great, in GOT when you slash an enemy you can see the impact it has in the enemy position and animation, its believable. In ACS the enemy reaction to hits is just not convincing, it looks unnatural, if somebody slash you with a sword your reaction is going to much more dramatic. This has been happening since Origins, they decided to ditch motion animation capture and instead made some weird AI ragdoll system that looks arcade and frankly terrible. I much prefer the Batman style combat the older Assassins had like the one in AC3 or AC Brotherhood, it was an easy combat yeah but at least it was satisfying and visually striking

Sorry, i fucking hate tsushima over reliance on precanned death animations with no ragdoll that get boring to see after the 20th enemy you kill.

I prefer wanky ragdoll than enemies dying all in the same way with the same 5 death animations for 40 hours.

Even more hilarious when you kill them in a slope or a rooc and their body glue on the terrain evenif half ofit is out of the ledge.

Atleast in shadows when you send enemies flying into prop objects that break in the scenario you have some sense of physicality, in tsushi it look like you are looking to an old samurai movie with those fake theatrical deaths.

Tsushima is mechanically better and more precise (but not nearly as varied between monoweapons and zero abilities to use) but it's way less visually pleasing when you kill dudes, at least for me.

I knowm many people love these precanned death animations but i was done with them by ps2 times.

Is there a lore reason why this game will fail miserably? Is the game woke?
I don't think it's woke (whatever that means these days).

But most people are hating because of how awkward it seems, like: The graphics are good, but the combat is janky, the setting is awesome, but the story seems boring, the characters have potential, but they all seem poorly written and so on.

From what Ubi showed so far, it seems like they never bothered doing a Japanese Assassin's Creed before because they don't care about the setting and are only doing it because of Tsushima popularity.

Also, it seems that they wanted to do an Yasuke game, but got scared so they added Naoe to make it safer, but in the process they fucked both characters gameplay wise.

If they had made an Yasuke game and focused on the stuff that made sense for Yasuke, it could end up being an awesome game. But Ubi seems too lazy and gutless to try something unique these... I miss Ubi from the ps360 gen.
