I might eventually play it on Gamepass. I feel like it might be one of those games that I decide to play out of a whim and get completely engrossed it.

Mortismal is at 101 hours and not done

Why are they comparing it to Outer Worlds in scope?

I was done with that under 40 hrs. Did everything I could find.

Might try because I already have Gamepass, but I've liked the game less the more I see it.

The combat and general gameplay looks fine, but the writing, character design and plot aren't really grabbing me yet.

Hopefully it's good, I've liked plenty of other Obsidian games.

It's a Microsoft exclusive and they've been flopping at everyone. I'll wait for reviews. Maybe grab it on sale for PC.

They're probably referring to roughly the "area" of the map. But Avowed has way more verticality and its dense as fuck, at least the preview of the first area. Preview's starting area didn't even include the city and some previewers had spent 20h in.

Its hard to explain why but Outer world feels tiny. There's almost no sense of exploration in that game. No climbing, no swimming. No exciting locations to discover. It seems Avowed is completely different in that sense.

Will be interesting to see how many more hours Mortismal will put in in the remaining 4 days before review drop. He typically 100% games or very close to it.

I've liked all Obsidian games I've played so far. Pillars of Eternity was excellent, though its pacing was quite uneven, and KOTOR 2 was amazing despite being unfinished. Outer Worlds was pretty good. Still not played Pentiment, though I think it looks SO good.

Avowed looks very interesting, and if the writing is good, that's the important thing. I don't love the pronouns stuff, but I can give it a pass if the game is otherwise excellent. I'm interested to play a first-person version of Pillars of Eternity, I find the world they built in Pillars to be unique and fascinating.

I played Citizen Sleeper last year, and that was pretty woke. One of the characters had they/them pronouns and it was distracting at first, but I ended up absolutely loving that game. If far-left people want to make games, it's fine by me, and I'll play them if they're good. It's when they insert ideology into existing series that previously didn't have it that it becomes egregious. And no, Mass Effect having gay romance options did not make it woke. There is nothing woke about being gay (another reason why the histrionics from that lunatic from the Mouthwashing dev team were so idiotic).

"Planning to play but keeping expectations in check" seems like the best option for me as a Game Pass player.

If I'm being brutally honest, this isn't a game I would buy. I bought Outer Worlds because its setting and premise piqued my interest. Avowed... not so much. Generic high fantasy stuff that doesn't look particularly great. I liked Pillars of Eternity but that game was a tactical fantasy game while Avowed looks like a weak Skyrim action RPG clone in the Pillars of Eternity universe. 🤷‍♂️

Since it's coming to Game Pass, I'll play it but my expectations are low.
The benefit to low expectations is being pleasantly surprised if the game exceeds them.

I am so hyped and ready!

Actually not for the game, but the discussions here again how low the player count is and steering to another rare incel win.

I'm cautiously optimistic for it and have Gamepass, so it won't cost me anything to play it, but I'll still check out the early impressions before fully downloading it.

I was excited then I was kind of not excited due to all the negativity on here. But as it has gotten closer I thought back to how much I enjoyed outer worlds and I decided not to let all the naysayers get the best of me. I have enjoyed a lot of obsidian games over the years so I am staying optimistic and preordered it.

Apart from the very first reveal trailer, everything I have seen since has put me off Avowed, so unless I get it free in the future at some point and I've nothing to play, it's option 1 for me.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
I will wait for reviews and by that I don’t mean blue hair / arm sleeve tattoos / nose ring / dungarees- type reviewers.

I enjoyed New Vegas writing and gameplay. Outer Worlds was worse in every aspect. I expect Avowed to be even worse so I'm not really interested.

This will probably have Marvel level script and jokes.

The Outer Worlds was very disappointing, so I’m going to check some proper gameplay and dialogue first.

Have to admit it does look a whole lot better since that last gameplay/preview showcase.

Maybe, when it's out on ps5 pro and if it's not chock full of stuff that bothers me.

The first reveal of gameplay was so disappointing to me after the anouncement trailer.

Those last previews got my quietly interested. There's just so many games.

Just started ff7 rebirth properly but I'll give this a blast on gamepass.

Hopefully it's good. I enjoyed outer worlds and all the dlc as a fallout lite.

This x1000.

wasn’t super interested even though I love rpgs. But, some of the previews have been better than expected. Will install with game pass and hope for the best.

One thing I can already say is that, judging by what they've shown (snippets from gameplay and trailers) regarding the OST, it seems not as motif-driven as the PoE1 and PoE2 OSTs. Everything I have heard so far sounded more generic. I do hope I am wrong, though.

I'll wait.......first for youtuber reviews, then player reviews, then for a few patches/content drops, then for discounts, then will finally get it maybe a year or two from now when they put out the super-duper edition which has all DLCs bundled in

Any other critiques aside, what the fuck is up with their character designs? They are some of the most bland generic things I’ve seen in recent memory, like they are expecting people to pay MORE to access that visual embodiment of the 🤷‍♂️emoji.

I just don’t get it.

I wanna play it and definitelly will unless game turns out to be super woke, then obviously i wont have any fun in the game so no point buying/playing, but still hoping for the best since western rpg is one of my fav genres.
With so many games i wont play it at launch(especially with such a paper launch of new nvidia cards) but as long as game gets around 70-80% reviewscores from few reviewers i still know that arent sellouts, and isnt woke- i will pick it up 4sure.

Will eventually check it out.
I like Obsidian games overall. I am also curious to see the Pillars world in a non-isometric perspective.
However, the timing is just not right, with Yakuza and MonHun coming out back to back.

Those are some shitty designs.

She was not narrative lead for Outer world, she was for the Peril on Gorgon DLC. Leonard Boyarsky was the lead narrative for the base game.

A team. Did I say that nobody from Outer world is touching this game? Of course the majority of Outer world team is on outer world 2. Avowed is mix, including from her interview saying that its like 1/3 of the workforce that worked on Pillars of Eternity.

Don't care how many directors it got through. Obsidian was in wild times with a buyout and a new scope of games they've never really done before.

Seems she pulled it off. 4 days till review confirm it.

Watch with auto-subtitles.

Don't know how any cRPG fans that played Pillars of Eternity see that video and not be excited. 🤷‍♂️

I loved POE on PC. The combat in this game though just doesn't seem great. A lot of previewers though have liked it though so maybe it's just the way it looks on video but plays better.

No, probably not. It is like this game was custom tailored for me.....but....

1. I can't stand the prejudice from the devs on this one.

2a. I also won't be buying the game because it is free on gamepass.

2b. When I see others get a game for free, it disincentives me from buying it at full price.

3. It also isn't available day and date on my platform of choice the PS5 Pro, but will probably be there in the future with a pro patch.

4. This game coming out right after another similar game KCD2, and right before MH Wilds, both games I will likely buy at full price and that fill a similar niche

So, no hype. If the game had just released with no commentary from the dev team and not on gamepass and available on Playstation I would probably have been day 1. There are not many fans in the whole world that will hop on this kind of game so filtering us out so thoroughly(while your competition does not) means this will flop bad on actual sales.

I don’t know why anyone would buy the Premium edition in advance, reviews are dropping the day the early access starts and all you get is some mediocre looking skins + a digital arbook & soundtrack

it’s a worse deal than Indiana Jones or Starfield which at least came with story DLC (albeit for $10 more than Avowed’s)

I want to play it on my husband's rig which has a 4070 TI and just stream it to my Steam Deck in the bedroom connected to my ultra wide monitor. But not sure I can do that with the PC GamePass version without going through a bunch of bullshit. So kinda at a loss on this one.

Premium "early access" are FOMO money grabs on the day a game review embargo lifts, ain't nothing else to it. I think this practice sucks personally. I guess this is extra cash too, even gamepass they have to pay an extra ($35?) to access early.

Too busy with kingdom come and then monster hunter. Avowed does not interest me, especially as it just sounds like a fantasy Outer Worlds.
