Best Ace Attorney game?

I've played the first one in the series when it came out, and while I did like it, I have no interest or intention of playing all of them but I actually feel like playing one of these games again, so... excluding the first one, which one is usually regarded as the best in the series?

3, easily.

2 is the worst in the series, that's redeemed by a great final case, and 4, while pretty good, does have some lame spots.

The third, but it is a bit meaningless to play the third without the second. Its a trilogy, it all builds to that conclusion. Four kind of screws that up, but shit happens.

yep the third one is the best, but I'll go through the second because it all comes together beautifully in the final case

worst one is Apollo

3rd was probably the best overall, first was good for having 100% original characters, before they were re-used later, but I find the case that was added to the DS version was a bit sloppy compared to the others in the game, the touch-screen stuff was pretty useless, as was the case with apollo justice too.

Since you finished the first, I'd just go in order and play the second game - Justice For All. These games do have a continuing story. So if you decide to play another in the future, you'll have some context.

But overall, the 3rd title (Trials and Tribulations) is widely regarded as the most consistently good game in the series.

Trials and Tribulations is the best, but by playing all the games in order, it makes the 3rd game that much better.

You could assume that 3 is the end of the series and be completely satiated. But in order to enjoy 3, you have to play 2.

And 2 isn't bad, just not as good as 1 or 3. I didn't get really invested in the AAverse until 2, though. A second go-round in that world made me really get into the characters and the fiction.

I did not much care for the story at all, so I should be fine in that regard. What I really liked about it was the whole courtroom procedure thingie, which despite (at least on the first one) being a tad bit too easy was highly entertaining and just the kind of thing that suits those 15-20 mins in bed right before you go to sleep. :)

My bad, I forgot to do the usual quick search before making this thread. :S

3 is the best but picking it up randomly and playing through it would be crazy. You need to play them in order.

Well then, I guess I'll just go read some summaries of what went on in the first 2 games (can't really remember much about the first game except that I liked Miles lol) if story's that essential. Like I said, I'm not that interested in extensively playing these games...

3 > 1 > I > 2 > 4

Can't comment on I2 cause I haven't played it :'(

I rank 2 ahead of 4 simply because 2-4 is a better case then 4-1, the rest of the cases in both games are poor.

1>3>2>4 is my order (discounting the Edgeworth games because I have not played them)

Case 2-4 is by far the best case in the entire series. It's superb.

I know people love 3, but 1 will always be my favorite. I couldn't tell you why, but I've played through a lot of AA1 multiple times whereas I never really did that with the other games.

Justice for All is probably the weakest game overall but the last case is also my favorite case in the entire series.

You should play all of them, in order. If you don't care about the story you should still play them in order anyways because it's not like the gameplay changes very much from game to game and you don't want to fuck yourself over in case you change your mind and do end up liking the story.

1 > 2.

I haven't played the others yet because I want DS copies of them, and obviously they're nowhere to be found, haha.

I have Investigations, though.

Oh yeah favorite is different. 3 is better but my favorite 1.

I love 1 more than 3 because it doesn't have shitty Kurain family crap in it.

sound advice, OP. You should listen to this good man

Yeah, I started trying to replay all of them, but after I finished 1 I didn't feel like doing the rest, but I was addicted to one as if I was playing it for the first time.

Seems a lot of people agree the last case in Justice for All is the best case, it may be extra special because it was in a game that wasn't as intense overall, but it was such a unique setup.

The first. I don't hate any of the others in the series but I won't have the same feeling I did with any as I did with the first game.

That's pretty much my list too. 2-4 is probably my favorite case in the series.

I just bought me some trials and tribulations off Amazon. oO Maybe it's different here in Europe...

If the second one is 75% meh, it immediately makes me not want to waste time with it. Maybe I'll check out a let's play of that last case that you all seem to love. :P

The third one is the best since it's really good at having an interesting overarching plot between cases that ends the original trilogy. The thing is that you can't really start by playing the third as you won't understand all of the characters and references in there.

Best thing is to try the first game, which is also very good, and see if you like it. Then if you really enjoy it you can play the rest.

I can't recall what the final case was in two can somebody spoiler tag it?

The third game is probably my favorite, but only because of the context it gets when playing through the first two game. If you are looking for singular experience then one is probably the best.

The first one is definitely the best, but they're all worth playing, as long as you do it in the appropriate order.

AA2 big spoilers:
Maya gets kidnapped. You cross-examine a hitman over a walkie-talkie. Your client is actually guilty. That miracle never happen.

The first is the best for me...although I haven't done the last case in the 3rd. The first 3 cases in the third were not all that special to me.

I also feel the first has the best soundtrack.

Ace Attorney 3 for several reasons.

Best Villain Ever:
I am talking about the ultimate Villain, Dahlia Hawthorne. She killed her half sister and got her "boyfriend" to commit suicide. Then she poisons Armando's coffee to put him in a coma. She then give the trinket to Phoenix Wright but he refuses to give it back, so she tries to poison him. That fails and she kills Doug Swallow and tries to frame it on phoenix. If that wasn't bad enough, she meets her mom in prison and tries to kill Maya from the dead, only to get Misty Fey killed by Godot. Holy Crap!

Best Prosecutor:
Godot since he is a cool dude, yet he is tormented by his past. The fact that he was the murder in Case 4 was even more insane.

Also:
IRIS!!! The best female to ever hook up with Phoenix. His true love and the ultimate nice girl, too bad she is in prison

It also had great pacing, amazing music, and it wrapped up one of the best trilogies ever put on a gaming cartridge.

Okay yeah that case was really amazing. I thought it was that one, but I wasn't sure what game it was from.

Maybe this piece of music will jog your memory?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e077_-eU0wE

I unfortunately was playing most handheld games without sound at that point in my life so case music means nothing. A travesty I know : /

1.

fuck the psyche locks.

Also 1-5 is probably the best case in the series.

1-5 would have been great if it hadn't gotten so absurdly specific about the evidence it wanted you to present despite there being at least three things in your case file that would have been relevant.

Ace 1 in my mind.

As I mentioned in the Community thread, the Ace series is at it's best when Wright and Edgeworth are working together so one easily tops 3 in my mind.

2 was good, I really didn't have a problem with it and I don't love 3 nearly as much as alot of people seem to. Honestly the second case in AA3 bored me to tears.

As pretty much everyone says, the third one is overall the better game, but the second AA is totally worth it just for the last case which is fucking great and IMO the best case in the series

Trials and Tribulations followed closely by the first one. 1-5 is the best case in the series

edit: glad I was beaten on that

I love all of the Ace Attorney games, but I really enjoyed Justice For All the most. I think it had some of the best music, and the last case, man. Talk about a tension rollercoaster. It's my personal favorite.

I will say that Trials and Tribulations had one of the best antagonists I've seen in vidya though, hands down. Man. Just straight up EVIL.

Honestly, I love them all, but if I had to choose an order...

3 > 1 > 4 > Investigations > 2

Don't get the Apollo Justice hate...

I'm with you. I really liked Apollo Justice, but I'm still glad Phoenix is returning to the spotlight.

Hopefully both Apollo and Trucy will make appearances in AA5. Apollo's story just began in the last game, and I hate scrapped storylines.

i totally agree...
the only redeeming quality of 2 is Franziska... and i'd love an investigation game based on her.

3 is hands down the best one... the final case is mind blowing.
