The reason these are the best phones are:

Using the latest Qualcomm 8 Elite SoC
Improved cooling
Big Batteries
Additional Buttons
Additional ports like a second USB C

Nothing else can be compared to them in terms of raw power and cooling while gaming.

If you want something cheaper, try to look at the Poco F series.
They often have a pretty good SoC for a low price but lack things like a good cam etc.

I’m using iPhone 13 Pro, in January it will be 3 years, works perfectly. You guys are really burning money.
He/She asked for the best one without giving any details about the budget.

He/She could get the older models, but in the SoCs advance so fast, if you want the best, you have to get the latest ones.

Asus ROG 9, probably

but most phones with a good chip will do

maybe a OnePlus 12R
OnePlus 13 is about to release. And Redmagic 10 pro is about to launch.

Redmagic has an actual cooling fan built in so performance is usually top notch for the price. Their software and update policies though are …

Next gen Qualcomm chipset is going to be releasing basically next few weeks in a lot of Chinese phones and Samsung will have S25 series in Jan. I would wait and decide which one makes the most sense.

Or just buy a Steamdeck / ROG Ally X or Ayn Odin 2 Portal if you must have Android. These would make a lot more sense.

I've got an iPhone 16, it games great while also keeping your hands warm during the winter.
Netflix games, Capcom games, Genshin Impact games.
Backbone works, but I mostly just use onscreen controls.

I’ve tried to get in to mobile gaming (downloaded popular stuff like CoD Mobile, Genshin etc.) but if you want those ‘big games’ it’s just not a good experience IMO. iPhone got red hot, battery depletes quicker, notifications or phone calls popping up can cause all sorts of issues.

I found that simpler, tap based, time-killer games can be pretty fun on mobile: Pokémon Go for a couple of minutes a day. Pokémon TGC Pocket is really fun. Bloons TD6, Balatro, Clash of Clans. Stuff like that.

As phones don’t have great cooling even an iPhone 16 Pro is going to get red hot playing stuff like Resident Evil so it’s just not worth it and as GHG GHG said, stuffing a Switch Lite in your bag or getting a Deck is going to be a miles better experience.

the OnePlus 13 will cost 1K

he doesnt need to pay that much to play games. The 12R is more than enough. Good performance, good screen, good battery

Alternatively Odin 2 or the new Odin 2 Portal would be good. And if it’s JUST for games, Redmagic is always great bang for the $. Just I wouldn’t use it as my main phone.

One Plus is also a good suggestion.

I'm looking to buy a new phone that can handle both gaming and daily tasks, but the reviews online are pretty divided. I don't need the latest flagship model, just something capable of playing games like Arknights, and Honkai Star Rail, and still be good for regular use like YouTube, WhatsApp, etc. Any recommendations?

In the past Poco (a Budget make from Xiaomi) had pretty cheap phones with good / high end spec SoCs. You often had some drawbacks on the cameras or in the software update policies (custom roms help a lot)
Maybe the to be released Poco F7 or F7 Ultra will be for you. In china they sell it under the Redmi name
Or you try to get a older flapgship phone.

In the end it depends on what your current phone is, how big your budget and maybe how often you change/update your phone.

I switched from a Samsung S23 to a S25 Ultra and the jump is pretty huge (8 Gen 2 vs 8 Elite).
In terms of efficiency and heat the 8 Elite is much better (the bigger phone helps with the heat too).

IMO anything after a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is a pretty biefy phone for games and espacially daily tasks. The only differences will be, the newer the SoCs are, the better will be the heat dissappation/ battery time.

The Redmagic is already a pretty cheap phone for its gaming capabilities, but you have dome drawbacks on the update policies, cameras and IP protection.

Maybe we could give better suggestions, if we know your budget and current phone

It'd be easier if you gave country and budget. Outside of the US, you get better access to a bunch of Chinese phones that pack recent flagship Snapdragon chips but aren't expensive by US standards. Haven't played Arknights but I know Honkai is easy to run on recent phones and I bet Arknights Endfield would run fine even on like a Pixel 8/8 Pro. Anything I've seen about the Red Magic phones even though I want one is that after a couple years your phone may end up getting out of date software-wise and wallets with NFC payment support may stop working. I think Dimensity phones are really capable. Something with the recent Dimensity 8400 should handle Honkai easily and very likely Arknights Endfield too

If it can play Wutherings Waves well, it can play Honkai and probably Endfield

Just Dimensity devices aren't great for PC emulation which is improving rapidly. Winlator and another one Pluvia that packages Winlator and something for Steam to get Steam working more streamlined

That Redmi K80 Pro mentioned in an earlier looks like an amazing value if it supports the wireless bands in your country

New OnePlus or the last gen one seems like a good bet for the price. If you are in US, Samsung had some really good pre-order deals for S25 and likely to have some of that again throughout the year.

I think the upcoming Nothing phone is rumored to have the new Qualcomm chipset as well. And yeah, if outside US, can take a look at a few other Chinese brands but need to check on warranty and OS/security update support options.
