(in Japanese)
Sony Group On March 13, the company revised its operating profit forecast for the current fiscal year (ending March 2025) upward from 1.31 trillion yen to 1.335 trillion yen. Although it was lower than the average forecast of 1.366 trillion yen by 25 analysts polled by Bloomberg, it set a new record for profit.

And stock is up 10%, investors seems to forgot to read forecast.
All you need to know about consensus forecast.
There are a good analysts and there are a bad analysts and average between them is just some shitty number

A upward spiral, such tragedy..

I like it when analysts pull forecasts out of their asses and when the reality doesn't match them... it's the market's fault.

They only made 1.335 trillion yen instead of the 1.366 trillion yen that 25 guys tried, and failed, to guess they’d make?

What an absolute disgrace. Time to close up shop. You had a good run Sony.

Last fiscal year they had 1.34 trillion yen in profit, the adjusted 1.335 trillion figure means they might end the year slightly below last year (-0.3% below). Analysts were expecting a modest 2% increase to 1.366 trillion, just like last year's over 2023.

With the abysmal first party they're letting out... how is this even possible.
For this quarter? They didn't have any notable/big 1st party releases (Astro Bot was released in September). Anyway, excellent HW sales, subscription revenue and 3rd party sales are the things that bumped SIE's Q3 to a record high.

So they are selling well and increased the operating profit forecast, but they didn't increase it as much as "analysts" expected so Sony = Doomed.

Because Xbox doing very poorly and Nintendo taking forever to release the Switch 2 allowed Ps5 to basically become the default home console this gen.
The average consumer isn't buying a Ps5 to play exclusives, they are buying it to play ALL games. If they are having fun with Helldivers 2, COD, FIFA/Madden, Elden Ring, Space Marine 2, Rebirth, DBZ Sparking Zero, etc they don't give a crap if it's first party or not.

That's for the whole Sony Group. The gaming division actually performed better then expected. From the article you've linked:

And this is fundamentally why Sony and PS are still here, and others have fallen by the way side. Sony is PS and PS is Sony these days. They're gonna fight tooth and nail to stay viable.

MS was always take it or leave it with Xbox - and people left it. They bought ABK and Zeni of course. Now they're 3rd party. $90bn focuses the mind.

So we're back to the doom and gloom part.

It's over sony. Time to sell your gaming division and TV division to apple.

Makes complete sense, Thanks!
Sony is a lot more than just Playstation.
I was referring specifically to PS division.

Haters went from "They are going to miss console sales their forecast and Sony are doomed they will revise it down again" yesterday to "Well yeah they made record profits and sold record consoles and will well surpass that forecast and they will easily sail past 100m this gen and well beyond after all...But profit was .0000001% less than the guess we made after they proved us wrong yesterday."
