If you're British, partly British, ex-British, just living in Britain, moving to Britain or just interested in Britain in general then this is your one stop shop for everything British. We're a friendly bunch so don't feel afraid to post. Just remember to please be civil. There's a dear.

A few things to remember:
  1. There is civilisation outside of London.
  2. Try not to talk to Londoners when they're commuting. It freaks them out.
  3. Helen Mirren isn't the Queenie.
  4. Big Ben is the bell not the tower.

It's tricky, too broad a thread really. Maybe just some funny youtube clips that sum up aspects of BritGaf?

Maybe you could add to the list your feelings on chocolate hobnobs.

Do you dunk them in your tea?

Do you lick the chocolate and stick them to your forehead?

Would you name your child after them?

Would you buy £1 million worth if you had the money?

Would you cover your naked body with them to spice up your sex life?

All important questions.

A list of words we regularly use that other people (Americans mainly) find offensive and what they actually mean/how they are used so we don't offend anyone accidentally?

Come to think about it, it all kicked off in the 'Real Gaf' thread.

Americans call this a biscuit:
BEzdb.jpg

Something that looks similar to a scone. We had to inform our American brothers that this is not a biscuit.

I will also point out that it is in some way chocolate hobnob related, so all is good.

Gotta milk that cash cow. Not complaining mind as I love it, but the idea that Karl is reluctant is a little tired now, he knows exactly what he is in for and still signs on the line.

Kind of prefer the podcasts more than the tv shows he does. I think Karl is at his best when he is just talking about shit.

Maturity, bitches.
There was a massive thread about it.

Their version of scones is also different, which makes me wonder if their stereotype of us uses their version of the scone or our correct ones.

So there's scones, biscuits, chips, faggots, pancakes, jam, jelly, fanny, free speech, arrested and democracy. Anything else?

In future I shall

Would you name your child after them?
Totally

Would you buy £1 million worth if you had the money?

Would you cover your naked body with them to spice up your sex life?

Well, there is also the opposite of that: words that are offensive in the UK but not so much in the States.

Words like 'shag' and 'wanker' come to mind. Kind of funny listening to an American say wanker as if it is nothing. It's usually something they heard a brit say without fully understanding it is a swear word.

Cool. I'll have a read through it.

I quite like The Stones new song actually.

I heard this for the first time this morning. I actually found it quite boring, was disappointed as I expected more.

Some people should know when to just quit. Like Paul Macartney. Or Marilyn Manson. Just stop it, you're past it and awful.

Well, all things are relative, as they say. :p

They would be deemed offensive enough to not be said on daytime television for instance. I don't actually mean I would be deeply offended by it. It's just that it is not always appropriate to say those words in certain circumstances.

And, I quite like it. Obviously they have written better songs in their heyday, but I wouldn't exactly call it a bad song.
