CDPR are so laughable in their evasion of the woke accusations.

"We don't work with DEI consultancy companies - we just, you know, hire a bunch of writers who've directly worked with them many times as well as activist journalists who hate gamers"

"We didn't say the world of The Witcher was sexist - we just tacitly agreed with that assessment in an interview and gave zero pushback whatsoever"

I'll just leave this here:

Let em cook....i am pretty sure everyone got the memo now, also CDPR. And if not...than this would be quite tragic.

I don't know whether the SBI allegations have any merit to them, maybe not. More importantly: CDPR doesn't need someone like SBI on board. They're dead woke themselves. I stopped playing Cyberpunk because the writing was ro ridiculously woke I don't have any trust left in that company. And I wanted to like Cyberpunk, I really did (and some parts obviously are great), but the writing just sinks it.

So having Ciri show up with a man-face in the new trailer and them releasing statements about how Witcher 4 is going to depict the struggles of women or some bullshit isn't helpng either. It's not like I'm into this culture war bullshit, but they clearly like taking a side in this. So I can't even blame people for reaching with shit like SBI (even though obvl a lot of it is done in bad faith), because CDPR made that bed themselves. People are right in having doubts.

I would love for the Witcher 4 to be good, I don't have any issues with Ciri as protagonist per se either. It's all about how you chose to go about this, and I don't have much hope in that regard when in comes to CDPR after Cyberpunk. I hope so much that I'm wrong.

Not to be that guy but diversity and inclusion has been a part of major gaming companies for decades and hasn’t been an issue. The equity part is what leads companies to promoting and hiring unqualified people into higher positions of power and having programs that excludes some people in favor of those labeled as a minority group.

Nice try, Mr. Out-of-Touch CEO. We already have confirmation that Mary Kenney, a former writer for Insomniac Games and a DEI-supporting activist, had left that company for CD Project Red last year. Witcher 4 will inevitably have forced DEI in the title.

I think it should be noted that Mary Kenney is working in the USA branch that's developing Cyberpunk sequel (Project Orion), not Witcher 4 that's developed in Poland.

But yeah I'm not excited about that either.

Still won't be enough to shut up the incels crying about how they can't jack off to Ciri because she looks too manly or some crap

I honestly have more problem with lore implications than her look. She is not really witcher by any means, I mean she didn't pass through the whole rather mortal process(which why was stopped I think). She is what she is because of her blood that let she be basically overpower. But it would't stop people to namecall me anyway.

Wow, that's bad :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm giving CDPR a benefit of a doubt. So far none of their games disappointed me (yes, that includes Cyberpunk). I also don't see the issue with Ciri's look. I have been shitting on Naughty Dog's new game MC repeatedly but I don't get why she is compared with Ciri. Ciri looks absolutely fine.
This being said, I think it's a good thing people are putting pressure on CDPR to not implement any woke garbage into their next game. There are certainly employees who would like to do that. The world is turning in lightning speed right now. Liberal governments in important western countries have crashed or are going to be replaced (Usa, Germany, Canada) , DEI is dying (Two huge companies like MC Donalds in Meta in the last few days alone) and politically motivated censorship has been dealt a huge blow. And I fully expect the culture shift to accelerate this year. CDPR would do good to remember that it isn't 2021 anymore. People are fed up with this crap and voice it loud and clear.

Whether it's true or not, this is a signal that they want distance from sbi.

This. It’s weird people here don’t understand this. If they were working with SBI, this would be pretty unprofessional of them to mention them specifically, not to mention a big “fuck you” to them.

CDPR is no better than Ubisoft.

It amazes me that people still clap like seals for these overrated studios. CP2077 is still a dumpster fire of a game. All style, no substance.

There’s a lot wrong with this post…

I've read all the books, played all the games and unfortunately watched the Netflix series too, I'm not fussy about lore implications - the Witcher books are good, but the lore is not as expansive or coherent as something like Game of Thrones, or Lord of the Rings. The idea of Ciri being a Witcher doesn't go starkly against the lore either, yes you can argue it's a deviation but one that makes sense and fits the narrative... you know like "the student becomes master" trope - it's clear from the third Witcher game that they were setting her up to be the next Witcher so it's not surprising for me, I reckon they even consulted Andrejs during the story making process. CDPR are masters at story telling and even the author himself remarked that CDPR took the Witcher universe and story to whole different level than even he could imagine.

Another good thing about Ciri being the next Witcher is that we'll likely see a legacy and succession of the older characters from Witcher 3 - like Avalach, Dandelion, Yennefer and more, people i'm excited to see, and of course her farther Emperor Emhyr - there's a lot of fun and potential for great story telling.

I sympathize with you and those who are pessimistic, but personally I'm optimistic.

There really isn't though. I put a decent amount of time in CP2077 and it was a stitched together mess of a game. I played the patches up to the DLC. I didn't buy the DLC because the base game was mediocre as hell.

If you like the game, that's awesome. Acting like mid games are more than what they are is my issue. It's one thing if the game is from a small studio and niche, it's another thing when its a legit AAA powerhouse. A turd is a turd, I like plenty of games that are turds but I'm at least honest about it.

Thse studios already suck all the oxygen in the room, shitting on them when I can is the least I can do. They deserve to be shat on, because they shat on millions of players.

The moment I saw the credits rolling in W3 in 2015 (sad that the game ended at all and ordering all the books from Sapkowski)....I knew the next Witcher will be about Ciri. At this point I never heard about all this nonsense agendas (good times).

Dude you think they're as bad as Ubisoft? Come on now. Did Ubisoft spend years improving their shitty games instead of abandoning it? Does CDPR pump out the same formulaic bullshit year after year? Is CDPR on the verge of bankruptcy due to many of years of bad decisions and being allergic to creativity? They're not as bad as Ubisoft, that's a wild take.

I played the patches up to the DLC. I didn't buy the DLC because the base game was mediocre as hell.

Your loss. Phantom Liberty is one of the best DLCs in years.

If you like the game, that's awesome. Acting like mid games are more than what they are is my issue. A turd is a turd, I like plenty of games that are turds but I'm at least honest about it.

If you're going to tell people it's awesome that they like the game, don't immediately follow up with a backhanded and condescending comment that judges their taste in games. What people look for in substance is going to vary from person to person. I think the game's got great storytelling, characters, and art direction, a badass soundtrack, and the combat/progression system has been reworked and is in a much better place than it was at launch. It's getting much better Steam user reviews now than it did years ago and it won Best Ongoing Game at TGAs 2023. It's a 4 year old single player game that still manages to average 50k users a day on Steam alone. So obviously CDPR did something right here. And if the game doesn't tickle your fancy, that's fine. But I am going to defend one of my favorite games ever against anyone saying it's a piece of shit, and claims that people are being dishonest with their enjoyment of it.

Good news I guess. Does it matter though when all of the good people who worked on The Witcher 3 have left to start their own studio and the people hired to replace them are the usual gamer hating activists? I heard from an unreliable source, and will post if I hear something more solid, that people are leaving the development team of The Witcher 4 because the game is woke and is shit. That seems to jive with the reveal trailer, so I would not doubt it. I have little hope that this company can make a good game anymore. They will make a highly polished turd. I am sure it will look amazing, but it will be so full of cringe it will be hard to stomach. As a huge witcher fan and someone who loved the first 3 games, I am very disappointed to see where CD Projekt Red is headed.
