Civilization VII Releases February 11th, 2025 | Coming to Nintendo Switch

You are not the only one for sure, Civ VI still has daily player base of around 40000 - 50000.
I'm playing Civ 6 on my Series X the game is great.
I like how they are changing things for the next installment. Those guys are gamers and they are making a game for us - gamers

Yeah, they have a special rule for that, it goes something like this:
"33 percent brand new features, 33 percent improving previous features, and 33 percent staying roughly the same"

They mentioned this in that overview, I think, where they talked about the game with devs.
It feels like a pretty different game but with that - it's the same thought behind it as always

Maybe the decrease in late time micromanagement will lead to less sitting around waiting for the AIs to move?

Okay so since I did go with Founders, this drops in a month now on 6th.
Not sure how the gameplay turns out after all the changes for better or meh over all, didn't have much issues there in the past, still this one might be weird at first.
But the game looks absolutely stunning with those landscapes and built up cities/towns shown in the streams. Just can't wait!

I've been avoiding previews because I like having a fresh experience, but I have heard some people are upset about the pricing. Is it that bad?

Well, from what i know its 69 Bucks for the standard edition and 100 bucks for the Deluxe Edition and then about 130 for the Founders Edition which both give you 5 days earlier access.
Maybe thats why people are upset.

The problem people have (well me anyway) is that you need to buy cosmetic tat along with the actual additional content that you would want to buy. I have zero problem buying a premium edition that includes a season pass, but don't make 2 mini season passes, separate them into 2 different editions and then bundle skins and other rubbish along side them.

I kinda feel weird for not being able to get into Civ after Civ 5. Something is wrong with me and I don't know what it is. I tried to get excited for Civ 6 and nothing happened. Same here, I am trying to get excited for Civ 7 and... I got nothing.

That's indeed weird, have you tried consulting a psychiatrist?

With me I started with the fourth one. Those old ones were revolutionary and you didn't know much about them until you played them, but after a while it became too familiar since it is basically the exact same game each time.

Still going to try it on PC, I hope some of the magic gets rekindled this time.

I got into Civ2. And a few times the sun came up. And i got into Civ3 a decent amount as well.

By Civ 4 I was done.

IT's natural. Only so many times you can go around the merry go round before it's been there, done that.

IDK man, previews are saying it's very much different this time. I let myself surprise, though.

I know some people might be put off by that, but each civ game is very different from the previous one. I think that's a good thing for the evolution of the genre.
Yes it is. They even have a design philosophy for that: 33% of the game should keep established system, 33% should feature improved systems and 33% brand-new mechanics.

It's the Civ at launch phenomenon. You know it's only going to be truly worth playing 2-3 DLC later so why get hyped now.

4X in general kind of feel dead to me though. Maybe when machine learning AI becomes commonplace it will get interesting.

Civ 6 launched surprisingly stuffed and up to date where 5 left of. But then it just gets more and more complex by the 1-2 expansions.
Wasn't sure about the changes and yes above mentioned strange leader additions.. still I'm hyped AF right now. Definitely planning to invest just as much this time around as with 4 and 5.
This new one should be well balanced on the complexity due to improvements based on past systems going by the first impressions, and well the new system to pick your civs for the 3 ages sounded very weird at first, it just might work fine.

I don't know much about the game, but age resets to mitigate snowballing civs seems good. I feel like it could have done without full on Humankind civ switching though but I kind of understand why they did it from a balancing point of view.

Went against my better judgement and preordered it. I've been playing these games since 2 and really looking forward to it.
Did you get the early access version or just the base one?
Edit: so the reviews should be out now, right?

oof, reviews are out, was hoping for something in the high 80 low 90s.

Think I bought the last 3 Civ games when they on sale. Barely ever played them...

I first played Civ long after I played RTS games and it always felt like an inferior genre. Like I was playing a board game or something...could never really get into it in the same way...

OMG, Benjamin Franklin, a man that wasn't even the President of the USA, becoming the leader of ancient Rome.
He shouldn't be in the game in the first place, and much less as the leader of ancient Rome.
This game was made by morons. What were they thinking.

And the UI looks like something made for touchscreens. It's really bad.

Edit: So this game also uses Denuvo. FFS, this just keeps getting worse....

After some thinking, I think I'm going to decline a day one purchase of this game, even though I have thousands of hours in Civ as a franchise. I'm not too keen on the monetization strategies, and the UI seems bad. I'll give it a wait.

I have a question.
When i start the modern age and didn't finish the techtree in the exploration age are the techs lost for me? how can i get the achievements of the techtree from exploration age in the modern age?
I missed the tech for imunity from deep sea tiles in the exploration age so my ships take damage on high sea, i can't choose the tech anymore because i got to the modern age.
