Does anyone know of a program that will let me make a .avi file into a .mp3? I need it for a friend.

You can't "convert" a video file to an audio file, however, you can rip the audio from a video file to a MP3/whatever. Search for VirtualDub, it's freeware.

I just used GoldWave for this purpose a few days ago. It allowed me to open an AVI file, just loading its sound portion as with any other WAV/MP3/OGG/whatnot.
