Crazy how Yakuza Dead Souls is the only entry still stuck in older gen limbo

It's still stuck on the PS3. Every other Yakuza game, whether it's a mainline or spinoff, has been updated or remade for modern consoles and PC.

Not only that, it runs like utter dog shit on the PS3. The hordes of zombies bring down the fps to nearly unplayable levels. RPCS3 also has trouble running the game. Last I checked, It's technically playable from start to finish, but it crashes very frequently. It's as lengthy as any other Yakuza game too, so frequent crashing in a 20-30hr+ game.

If any Yakuza game needed a modern remake, it was this one. The story and characters are of the same high caliber as all of the other titles, but in a zombie apocalypse setting. The only reasons I can think of as to why it hasn't happened yet is either exclusivity with Sony and the PS3, or Sega is bitter about the low sales numbers from when it originally released..

I think it's coming. There was a time when SEGA wasn't interested in bringing Ishin, thinking no one in the West would play it.

Not Kenzan nor Kurohyō 1-2.
Didn't know about these ones. I just read up on Kenzan, crazy that hasn't been remade, or at least remastered. Just from this passage on wikipedia, it seems to be one of the most influential entries in the franchise: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryū_ga_Gotoku_Kenzan

Kenzan is the first game in the series where the games' main characters have their face modeled in 3D after their voice actors who are Japanese celebrities.[9] Cyberware's color 3D scanner (model PS)[10] was used to analyze each actor's head & face in order to collect data on its shape and appearance, then this file was worked with the Softimage XSI 3D graphics application.

That was the first Yakuza game I bought. I remember the shooting controls being horrific so I didn’t stick with it. Fishing for zombies was good fun. I’d give it another shot if they re release it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Even though it's easily the worst game in the franchise, I would still like for them to port it forward.

They made a full fuckin' game out of the zombie craze with a lot of typical Yakuza quality cinematics to boot.

It's on-par with Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare in that regard.

Kenzan too and I still have it on PS3. This game is probably better than Ishin, but it deals with child prostitution. It might be problematic and not worth the effort.

Dead Souls bombed and its the least popular entry, I think this is why they leave it.
Oh wow, how did the game handle that dark of a subject matter?

For Dead Souls, the reason why it bombed may not matter to Sega, but the game runs like trash and it released at Yakuza's lowest point in terms of overseas sales. It's not so much that the game itself isn't good. Hopefully they can see that a proper remaster would do quite well now with the series resurgence.

If they did a Remake and fix the controls the game itself wouldn’t be too bad. Controls being terrible is what killed it.

Plus the performance on the PS3, and at that time, the series just wasn't appealing to the Western audience. 3, 4, and Dead Souls fell below sales expectations, and then they took 3 years to bring us a digital-only 5.

kenzan's a much better game than ishin, imo. maybe my personal favorite yakuza game of all. the child prostitution aspect was simply based on the reality at the time. that it could be perceived as 'problematic' has always seemed a sorta bogus concern to me, & more like an excuse for just passing on localizing the game...

You know its definetly not the best Yakuza, When it released I had a fuckin blast with it. I think I was close to the platinum? Bring this or do a Kiwami version of part 3.

The game is absolute trash, the only Yakuza I bounced off of hard. Love the series, but this one isn't needed.

I finished it.

I'd still like to see a translation, but it needs to be reworked mechanically.

Haruka works at a brothel, but more like an underage assistant. She doesn't do any weird activities. I played the game with a guide, about halfway through. And I think childs are being used as helpers by some rich guys. I think it could fly, but they ignored it for Ishin which came out much later.

Yes Kenzan is better from what I played. The game is PS3 only and the first HD Yakuza but its more interesting than Ishin. It was also far better than Y3.

Ishin is... I was happy it was being localized at all. But I forgot most about it. It was fun enough to beat. What I like about the Feudal Yakuza games is that they are based on people that existed, such as Musashi and Okita. But they are being portrayed by the Yakuza faces. So you meet this historical samurai that uses the model of Goro Majima with the same voice and insanity, but he is actually a completely unrelated character.

Its the worst selling yakuza spin off game in the franchise. Sega isnt going to bother with brining it to remastered, or it's at the dead end list of things they would care about.
