DC Studios’ Slate Evolution: Some Projects Put on Backburner as Others Are Full Steam Ahead

Two years after James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled an ambitious slate, the duo offer updates on what they’ve found along the way (‘Clayface’) and what has hit “speed bumps” (‘Waller’ and ‘The Authority’).

The goal for the company is to make two live-action films and one animated movie per year while also producing two live-action and two animated series for Max per year.

And while Gunn and Safran didn’t elaborate, they did say they had a six-year plan that would include an Avengers: Endgame-style culmination — a reference to Marvel Studios’ 2019 climactic movie, which Gunn worked on as an executive producer thanks to his role as director of the Guardians of the Galaxymovies.

How will this work with this film that brings together several heroes introduced beforehand? I guess we will see.

Marvel movies don't challenge the audience. At least James Gunn's Guardians movies dared to make the audience feel uncomfortable and not have a quick cheap laugh to destroy the moment. With these B and C tier characters Marvel are utilising right now, they aren't the problem. It's the writing quality that's fucking shocking. Iron Man was a nobody to normies before the first film came out.

While I like Marvel movies overall... You're not wrong. Actually, pretty spot on.

Maybe we'll see fewer films now that the Venom-verse and Xmen Fox-verse are over, but I'm skeptical the market can handle too many comic movies per year.

Both Marvel and DC should move towards 1 movie per year and 1 show every other year. Don't get greedy, people don't have time for too many releases.

EDIT: Also the fewer releases they have the more they can focus on quality.

Dammit Gunn, just give me a sexy Zatanna magic/horror film and a Shazam/Black Adam/Superman totally OP insane power level slugfest. Recast Shazam if Zach Levi is too much of a Jesus freak these days but I like him. Recast Dwayne if he wants too much, plenty of arabic/Mediterranean powerlifter dudes for that role. And of course cavill. Lots of glistening pecs, oiled thews, lats for days, and every hot athletic chick you can find. Zack Snyder directs but Gunn controls the script.

This is a horrible idea. Three movies and four series a YEAR? I’m just now getting over the insane fatigue and oversaturation of superhero movies after basically not watching any since Endgame.

They might as well just lock my jaw open and shit down my throat. There’s no way these movies will be good at the rate they’re churning them out.
