EXCLUSIVE: In a deal worth $500,000 against $1.5 million, Legendary Entertainment has optioned Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen's nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario as a potential reteam with its Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve. The expectation is that Villeneuve would take this one as another giant project after he completes Dune: Messiah, which he and Legendary are developing as the conclusion of the trilogy.

After Cleopatra (his next film) he has Rendezvous with Rama probably before Dune 3.

Excited for all of his movies though. Plenty o Denis

Definitely going to be interesting seeing how audiences react to where this goes

Attack on Titan did it, but there's a lot more normies watching this that have no idea what's coming I think

Do you mean in weirdness or something else? I'm going to read the rest of the books this year. I just finished Dune Messiah A couple of weeks ago

"Wait so... Paul is the bad guy?"

It's gonna be funny seeing that trigger certain people lol

I recently read Dune Messiah and loved it due to those themes. I'm hoping to read the rest of the books this year
Herbert was very open about writing Messiah in part because people didn't get the theme of Dune, they thought it's an adventure book.

"No more terrible disaster could befall your people than for them to fall into the hands of a Hero."

You are in for a ride. Till God Emperor Herbert was still holding himself back, afterwards he was like:

Also later books have best Dune character:
Miles Teg

Oh I understood the theme of the original book back than. But yeah that went over people's heads

I can't wait, I'm a fan of weirdness in storytelling. China Mieville Bas Lag books are a perfect example of Weirdness that I love

Rendezvous with Rama
this is the only one I'm really looking forward to

Cleopatra with Z- is a horrible idea, she already ruined Dune; and Dune III is something I'll watch, but I feel that the director's talents have been mostly wasted on this franchise now, far too many years of work for what it's worth in the end.

Peak Villeneuve was the run from Prisoners -> Enemy -> Sicario -> Arrival (*one of my top 10 favorite films) -> Blade Runner

..are you seriously asking if Dune is a better story than fucking Attack on Titan?
No, because the post wasn't a question. I am genuinely hoping that whatever comes next in Dune is better than what happened in AoT.

I have heard on this forum and multiple other places that Dune has it's own weird twists and turns in narrative the further we go into the books. Whatever comes, I hope it is better than AoT's twists and turns.

Dune Messiah is a good book. Big tonal shift from the original, and doesn't hit the same highs, but it's not trying to. It's meant to bring you back to the ground.

That's not what his story is about - it's about someone unable to escape his destiny even if he saw all possible futures.
Well in the end he did find a way out, but in doing it he made things worse before they eventually got good.

And poor Paul wasn't even destined to do what he did. His mom fucked up royally. Quite literally

No spoilers, but I thought the ending to Dune Messiah was extremely cool. Like going from 2D to 3D. That's the only way I can explain the jump in story logic.

Still wondering whether I should bother with Part Two. I finally got around to Part One a couple months back and it's one of the most disappointing things I've ever seen. I can't wrap my head around the hype.

I loved everything else Denis Villeneuve has done with exception to Enemy. So I was really surprised how underwhelming this was.

Most fitting comment I've seen on it: "not bad if you ever just feel like staring at the colour orange and not feeling a single emotion for two and a half hours".

Even if Part Two -- and later, Messiah -- is great, it'll forever be attached to that first film which kinda kills the hype for me.

I don't like that people keep saying Paul is the "villain" of Dune or that him being the villain is the main takeaway of the series. I feel like that does not do the story justice because it's way, way more complicated than "good" vs "bad". He's a guy who was put into an awful situation and did what was necessary to survive and avenge his father. He was certainly a villain to a lot of people, but also a hero to others. To me Dune is more of an exploration of the overlap of politics, religion, technology and industry, and the great evil and manipulation that comes from that. And really cool giant worms.

I hate to break it to you but part 1 was better than part 2

The best part of the news and you guys didn't even commented. Villeneuve will direct a war going nuclear movie / post apocalyptic with one the most interesting scripts of last year.

Dune Messiah we already know that's going to happen.
