Def Jam: Fight For NY won't feature any online competitve gameplay or other network features when it arrives at the end of this year, Electronic Arts confirmed today. EA representatives explained that while the game's creators had many potential ideas for expanding the game online, they ran up against the inevitable time constraints of implementing them alongside a detailed single-player experience.
While that aspect of EA and Aki's new hip-hop fighting game was never illuminated in detail, whether alongside the game's announcement this spring or at E3 in May, online play was mentioned as a feature of the PlayStation 2 version.
Although it's hard to say for sure, online features were probably never planned for inclusion in the Xbox version -- EA carefully omitted any mention of Fight for NY from promotional materials related to its hop onboard Xbox Live at E3.
