DF - Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart PS5 Pro vs PS5 Image Quality Face-Off

I keep a log of all my games in a spreadsheet as to what I set them too (TV settings and game settings). And the 120hz mode VRR will mean that its chroma output will be 422 rather than 444 and my TV's image quality is at its best when I dont use VRR too. In my notes I put "With VRR disabled, you can turn on 120hz mode for better latency. But image quality looked better with 120hz off and no VRR. Keep in normal non RT performance mode."
Interesting. I wonder if similar observations have been reported elsewhere.

I get Sony don't want to show 3rd parties in a bad light, but how else people will get the message clear if they're showing the best they have looking a bit better

Went back and watch DF go over when pro revealed. It seems image detail and clarity is alot worst compare to the old build. It's a trade of. I am not sure i like this. Wtf, in the recent build, the image detail and clarity for some scences are even worst than performance mode. In the old build, it's pretty much comparable to the fidelity mode.

People say, "I don't see a difference" or "not a 700 difference." lol

That's like saying you can't see a difference between a 4060 and a 4070 GPU.
The 4070 cost $299 more than the 4060.

The difference between the PS5 is about the same/less (depending on the disc drive).

It's just like upgrading to a more powerful GPU, so I think it's dump to make that statement since people should know how GPU upgrades work.

Pro performance RT is little better but they should be able to do more honestly. Hopefully there will upgrade in other modes as well.

The difference is a small fraction, how many people will notice these differences? I’m not sure the “pro” concepts work with consoles.

Insomniac listened to DF concerns about "sharpness", and removed their sharpening pass entirely.

Before it looked like this compared to DLAA and DLSS Quality:

KLbwNWa.png

Now all it is going to achieve, is looking worse than regular PS5 Performance RT in YouTube videos seen on smartphones (how majority of DF audience watch their videos according to their data), and much blurrier and soft compared to DLSS.

What Insomniac did is one of the most shortsighted, if not downright moronic, things I've ever witnessed in my life.
If they really needed to do it, they could have simply released a patch short after launch, reviews and analysis. Or even better, a simple toggle.

Nah, image stability over crackling pin sharp visuals. I couldn't put my finger on it with Horizon's first PS5 Pro showing but that is why it looked so stunning. As Oliver perfectly puts it, you're getting a more film like look as opposed to common video game aliasing ane overall instability.

Not that I will go that far and call it moronic. It look blurry with better stability maybe. Like John, I kinda prefer pin sharp clarity vs a stability and softness.

Lol, and you kinda right, the troll on twitter noticed it and call the pro blurry vs even the performance mode.

Wait a minute… is this sarcasm? You where looking to buy a 98” TV. Don’t tell me that the Pro is for your desk setup!
Yes the pros will likely one be on a 32" OLED 240 hz monitor and the other will either go on my TV or my other desk that has a 45" OLED monitor

The thing is. People want the 4k like image for the pro upgrade not a softer than the base ps5 perfromance mode with better stability.

The base ps5 performance image stability is decent already. So with the old build, the pro image stability could be worst than the recent biuld but it would have been better in term of image stability compare to the ps5 and comparable to 4k like fidelity mode.

If you’re going to use two consoles and no comfy couch gaming in what I imaging is a living room like a movie-like set of a good neighbour of a crime scene on CSI Miami, Ima gonna need to ask you for your console gamer card and your gun, sir.

I just imagine some of you guys using these 3x zoom photos to prove to your significant other how justified your PS5 upgrade to Pro is.

Or am I the idiot for thinking you guys have significant others?

No. We might agree and know this, but there is a time and a place to satisfy the needs of IQ ultra enthusiasts.
You simply put a toggle for us, you don't allow your new PSSR and reason for this new constantly criticized Console to exist to be compared with ultra-sharp images for both regular PS5 and especially PC later on while looking like a blurry mess in comparison.

What they did is simply bordeline retarded, and they deserve all the mocking coming their way on Twitter and YT comment section.

Spider-man 2 is a different story though. It looks a lot sharper with alot better stability from what I seen. The image clarity and detail is maybe even better than the fidelity mode?

Go to 2:20

Edit: I just realized this is also the pro revealed footage. Hopefully they keep this build lol.

Well I game much more on my monitors than the TV.

I havent decided what I am doing yet with the anniversary pro though so that one might make my main desk and a pro sneaks onto a TV

And can't give up any of my armory :)

They'll get rid of their sharpening on Spider-Man 2 as well.

I literally have no words to be honest, those comparison with Fidelity mode..

It would be a shame if this is the case.

I noticed PSSR bring out image detail and clarity alot better with sharpening pass. Look at TLOU2 and FF7 rebirth for the best examples.

Finished watching the video. It looks very soft now on the Pro. I preferred the look before they removed the sharpening.

It does not fair that well either compare to the base ps5 performance mode.

This guy is troll. Ignore that. But it really look blurry compare to the performance mode though.

Why don't they just add a sharpening slider? This is one thing that annoys me on consoles. Basic bitch shit they can easily implement is often missing. No sharpening sliders and often no FOV sliders. Thankfully, the latter has become more common in this generation.

Look at the orange rock image I posted from twitter above. The pro seems to be lacking details compare to the base ps5. Is this entirely up to sharpening? Honest question.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
ngl, the performance RT seems to be sharper than the PRO mode.

its either they made a mistake, or theres basically no upgrade here, or the shitty youtube compression.

Not a big deal - 100% increase in the frame rate on PS5 Pro

A big deal - When a platform has a 150p advantage or 3fps more stable.

Seriously. When it's a $2000 PC, those miniscule differences are the greatest thing in the world. When it's an extra $200 for a console, it's a rip-off.

Along with demon soul remake, Ratchet and Clank Rift is the worse game to demo for ps5 pro because it already looks great. I believe the capabilities of Ps5 pro PSSR ML, but the games they should have demoed Pssr capabilities to upgrade, are those games with so much technical flaws like Elden Ring, Wukong and Rise of Ronin

Yes. This is the original Pro footage, before they paid any attention to DF:

And seeing Alex mentioning the PSSR "oversharpened look" while having no single word over the same exact effect on any PC setting/upscaler.. I can assure you that little bitch is over the moon about this.
Wouldn't be surprised he's literally fondling himself over Insomniac retardation right now.

It is sharper because it’s jaggier. It’s like saying that an image without AA is sharper. Technically it is. But it’s true that deactivating the sharpening filter was a mistake. It produces some errors (pointed in the first analysis of the PSPro presentation) but it worth for a more defined result.

The thing is that this is not a game to show your Pro on. It’s already too good. It’s like the next Ghost of. That trailer was captured in a base PS5. Sony games are not the ones that are going to look so much better with the Pro, but all the third parties using FSR.

That said, this thread has more pages than what a mediocre platforming action game deserves. There. I said it!

Wait. It would be more interesting if DF compare both builds. I think they have both build footages from this video and the most recent one.
