I feel like Marvel started this trend and now I'm fully accustomed to look beyond the credits on just about any movie to see if they've hidden any extra scenes.

Is this just a thing everyone does now?
I don't recall going out of my way for this pre-marvel.

Only if I know they are there. Most movies do not do it. Just super hero franchises.

My mom was thrown off guard when I told her Airplane had a post credits scene considering the many times she had seen it before I ever saw it.

I do for blockbusters and comedies. I actually watched Small Soldiers (1998) last night and it had a post credit tribute to Phil Hartman since he was murdered a few months before it came out.

Yep why not, it's only a few extra seconds to fast forward and stop if anything pops. And it's not only about movies, I recall watching some tv show many years ago that had additional scenes during credits and I never knew about them.

I google when the movie finishes and if it does then I fast forward to it.

Yeah, have done it all the time since way before Marvel.

I almost always stayed at cinemas. It happened one or twice and so I just stayed. Even just for the music at times. Nowadays I might google first though and leave if it's confirmed there is nothing.

Marvel might have conditioned it but as others have said, it was being done long before. Marvel's ones have been lame now anyway.

One of the good things about Disney+ is that they put a skip credits button if there's a post credits scene.
