can't click on a Switch thread without reading about how Nintendo fans are idiots because you can emulate Switch titles on a PC

I haven't been on this forum super long, but I have never seen nearly as much pro-piracy posting as we're seeing after Switch 2 news

what gives?

I emulate games but I also support games of companies I like. So for me I'm getting Switch 2 but not gonna to emulate the games

100%. I pirate PS2 and PS3 games to play on emulators. Nintendo too. I'm not paying 100-200 dollars for physical copies of rare games. Plus a BR/DVD drive for my PC.

I think once I buy a game, how I choose to play it is no one's business but my own.

Consoles almost never match the visuals and quality of life I can expect on PC. So I almost always, where possible, choose to play on PC. If there is a native PC version, as is the case for every third party except Vanillaware, and all of Microsoft and most of Sony, then I play them on PC (and choose to wait on the PC release in many, but not all, cases).

If there is no native PC version, like Vanillaware, or Nintendo, then I emulate if possible. But I buy that game first, and then rip and play it on PC. It's my game, that I legally bought, and am playing it on my legally owned hardware. No one should have an issue with that.

Modern games? I think it's okay but only if you can't afford them. Nobody loses anything in that case.

I've "emulated" games most my life going back to early 2000's

I've pirated NEW content way back when (PSP and Wii stuff)

I don't condone it anymore. Won't do it. I'll 100% emulate games I've owned and/or isn't for sale on a modern system

I always buy physical copies of games then emulate them. Morally sound but legally grey.

I'm not going to pretend that a better option doesn't exist, in regards to image quality and performance. TotK was 100x better on my PC than on my Switch.

I think if a game is old enough that modern devices can't play it, and rare enough that the cost is exorbitant to legally play, then the piracy meets preservation argument comes into play to emulate.

For modern games though, there isn't an excuse. You don't like what the company is doing, go play the endless amounts of other games, instead of trying to convince others why you stealing is fine.

When I emulated Switch games on my PC, I did it because I own the hardware, own the games, and it's not hard to convert over to roms to get the best version of the game. PS2 stuff is even easier, since many good games for it are cheap because so many copies got made because it dominated that gen.
