Does an office chair like this exist ?

Gents, i'm in dire need of a new office chair since i've been fucking my whole posture up for the past couple of months resulting (primarily) in neck pain.

Given that I have my LG C2 in my office and spend numerous hours there, the IKEA Millberget no longer suffices due to its inadequate back and neck support. While it's suitable for work, during extended gaming or movie-watching sessions, I start to experience neck pain from the prolonged lack of support.

I'm looking for a chair that's comfortable and offers:

- A body-hugging feel
- Reclining capability
- A footrest
- Not (necessarily) a gaming chair
- Robust
- Affordable - so no 1000+ Herman Millers please.

I've scoured the internet and Amazon, but alas, 99% are either low-quality Chinese "gaming chairs", or, (Chinese) office chairs with issues like flimsy armrests, cylinders and fabrics that deteriorate quickly. Some say Secretlab chairs are well-crafted and comfortable, but at 550+€ without a footrest, and for a "gaming chair", shit, I might as well get a standard, "proper" one.

But wait ! - I said no gaming chairs, but I found one that seems decent(?) judging by the Amazon reviews.
It's flashy and gaudy/tacky but it seems to tick all the boxes since it reclines, has a footrest, is tall enough, and comes with a neck area, headrest and lumbar pillow. It's cheaply made, but it appears to be the best among the worst.
> Video here <

I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PS : i'm also eyeballing a shiatsu back and neck massager to put on the chair for extra ReLaaAAx when the need arises

Cheers

I know, you need a...

Ah.

Just get a used Herman Miller would be my suggestion. TBH, if someone else was doing it as well for half the price, Herman Miller would be out of business. So, to some degree you have to ask yourself how they're getting away with it. And I guess, the answer is, that's just how much it costs. On the plus side, look after it and you'll be able to sell it for about the same later.

Either that or go to IKEA. Some of their chairs are alright, they're not as good, but they are much cheaper.

I mean, that's the thing, my Millberget cost me like, what ? 70 Euros 2 years back and it's been one of the most "honest" products
I've ever bought, plus, I used to use a Herman on my previous job and truth be told, I didn't find it to be all that, If you ask me, they're way overpriced...

Anyway, I already went to IKEA but, they don't have the specific combo I'm looking for (recline+footrest) hence me asking for any other options 😉

As for the other gentleman that replied, of course "gaming chairs" are not the best options and are mostly gimmicks (not to mention ugly), thing is, for some reason, most of the chairs that I've seen that offer what I'm looking for happen to be gaming ones, FML...

You could always get a separate, stand alone footrest?

Ikea will be hard to beat, based on economies of scale, I'd have thought, sorry, I did see you'd mentioned Ikea already, but I meant sort of "if you want to save some money..." But, I also reckon those Herman Miller chairs are probably priced one way, but are very, very, very heavily discounted if you're an office buying 200 of them.

I'd take a look on Ebay, they're not very easy to send to someone which means if there's one near you for sale you're probably one of a small number of people who might be prepared to come collect. An Aeron is £1600 on the HM website, but you can pick them up used for £250 easily on ebay. I assume that'll be the case the world over. It's definitely what I'm going to do once I'm ready to get rid of the chair I'm sat on now. With home being where I do most of my work, it's worth paying to be really comfortable, IMO.

"I want a high quality chair but dont want to pay for it"

How much is your body worth to you, OP? I feel like $1000 for a chair that will last you 10+ years and help you out is a small price to pay.

Steelcase Gesture or Leap with headrest will solve all your problem

Or even Haworth Zody 2 with headrest is pretty good, I'm already buying a second one

Used Steelcase chairs can be had significantly cheaper than Herman Miller, yeah, on the order of $100 for a high end one if you look around.

I needed a new chair last year, I did not want a gaming chair, but I did want it to be comfortable and have some back support, I went with the grey one of these Razr Iskur because it looked way less like a gaming chair, and a nice upholstered office chair. It's super comofrtable and the bump out ergonomic support was a "sold" feature for me. ANd its prime, if you hate it send it back

Check craigslist / fb marketplace.

My area had a lot of variety that you can grab for 300$-ish. Maybe lower if you haggle.

I was going to go that route until my work bought a bunch of new stuff and I ended up with a couple for free.

I am currently using the most comfortable office chair I've ever had which has eliminated my back aches from sitting too much at my desk. Itt was very afforable but feels premium because of a few tricks I'll share below. I also use it for gaming now rather than my sofa.

So if you're on a budget and can't afford to splash out like $500-1000 on the crazy stuff then do this:

Ticova Office Chair $100 with Coupon (this has adjustable arms, reclining feature, lumbar support, neck support etc..)
+
Arm cushion covers for $18 (these fit the chair linked above and are very comfy)
+
Cooling Gel Seat Cushion $25 (these make the seat way more comfy so you can sit longer periods and helps relieve sitting pressure. You can get some of these which have a fabric case too. I'm not sure if this one has)
+
Foot rest $19 with Coupon (plenty of other alternatives too)

Total, $162.

Occasionaly I'll got to the department shops and try out the crazy expensive stuff that's like $1000-2000 (in £s) and my make shift set up feels more comfortable than most of them, bar a few exceptions.

I've had this chair for 8+ years now, the cushion is still great (but of course, they are Tempur-Pedic who most know for bed mattresses). I've had many cushions go bad within a few years. Not them.

I think if you aren't wanting $1k+ chairs, get something like this. It's not super fancy but for me it has kept my back and butt happy.

Edit: Sorry I should've read your thread fully, this chair won't meet your needs.

Question : Do you drive/have a car ?
It'd be like asking "muh dudes, i'm looking for a new car that has these features and doesn't cost an arm and a leg" and have people replying in a snarky way "LOL you want high quality but dont want to pay for it - How much is your safety and driving enjoyment worth to you? gotta buy a Porsche"

Fucking Hell, then again, this is the internet so i'm not surprised...

It's nice to have commodities but people can't be splurging thousands of Eurodollars for each "best" thing in its category, i mean, shit, if it was that way everyone would have 1500 Eurodollar phones, 5000+ Eurodollar suits, 20-30K Eurodollar watches, 70+K Eurodollars for a car (heck why not go all in and spend a couple of millions for a hyper car) and so on so forth, it boggles the mind that someone has to actually explain this.

Anyway, looking something in the 300-400€$ range boys, problem is, don't see any footrest(s) on most of those office-type ones

I think wanting a office chair with footrest will kill 99% of options, but maybe there is a unicorn out there for you. Good luck!

You are making the mistake of thinking a good, customizable, ergonomic chair is a luxury. It's not.

Look, it's your life, but this is my experience, moving to a good chair eliminated back pain I was having from using the cheap shit. I bought a good Steelcase almost 10 years ago, it still looks and works like new, whereas those shit chairs last a few years maybe and people have been through a few at least in the same time period.

Every single "recommend me an office chair" I say the same thing, nobody wants to spend so much, but it's always the best advice and again, it's your life.

I bought a steelcase leap from crandalloffice.com. they sell used chairs but their refurbished. I got new upholstery and a extra thick seat bad. Things better than new with the thicker pads and cost me like $600 I think. 10yr warranty.

Refurbished Herman Miller on eBay will change your life. Probably like $5-600. I got one at the start of Covid and it's so worth the money to invest in a good seat if you're sat down a lot of the day like me.

There's obviously other great ones in other brands, I'm just saying, buy cheap, buy twice. Your back will thank you.

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
At someone who is 6'5" and 210 pounds of pure muscle and testosterone all chairs are just temporary. The massive weight of my incredible frame degrades any chair's structure within months. I also have been doing kegals 24x7 while sitting since I was 6 (you should see how far I can shoot), so my glutes chew through seat cushions like a starving fat kid at an all you can eat buffet.

Office furniture liquidators will have a ton of chairs available. Including Herman Miller. You can try them out in their warehouse and in most cases, the price is negotiable. They pick these up for pennies on the dollar or sometimes even for free.

lol body hugging...footrest... Are you looking for office chair or lazy boy?

You get it 😁
I just need/want something extremely comfortable for my gaming and movie sessions and since I'll be doing that in my office where I can't exactly place a lazy boy...

Anyway, the idea was to get something like those gaudy "gaming chairs" which offer both a neck/head rest and a footrest but unfortunately, they appear to be the only chairs to offer both.

Basically, it has to be able to recline long enough, offer a headrest AND a footrest but, from my search, no such chair exists (that isn't a shitty, cheap gaming one).
