Dragon Age: Veilguard releases with over 70k concurrent players on Steam and 'Mixed Reviews'

Eh....you seemed invested enough in this to hand out Ls to the "incels" on Friday based on nothing at all. So now that the game's numbers (which do matter) are not that great then you are going to pretend to be above the fray?

I see the game hit 89k last night.

It seems like the number doesn't really matter at thr end of the day. It's people who will call the game a failure to make themselves feel better and people who will call it a successful for the same reason.

For the people on the sidelines, remember, we only have a limited amount of fucks to give. Give a fuck about things that affect you directly. Like your local government and communities and not some online culture war that's a never ending distraction.
Well, I just so happen to not want a game to preach to me the “proper” way to apologize to a man pretending to be a woman for properly gendering them.

Saw this screenshot in a Spanish group. Not sure if it's real or not but if it is no English translation can make it justice to the horror being felt by people who can understand it.

It's basically "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" in inclusive, when Spanish has no inclusive. This is pure agenda.
Damn, I work with almost all fluent spanish speakers. We all had a good laugh over "latinx" but now I need to show them this stuff.

Yeah whenever I see these posters saying things like "both sides are just as bad" they usually turn out to be on the side of the crazies but is just putting out the "both sides are bad" so it doesn't look obvious.

A actual person who truly does not care wont say anything but still won't mind if the side that supports mental illness gets dunked on. They'll just stay out of the conversation.

Why has the term chud become a thing, that shit sounds so cringe. Did incel become too politically incorrect?
As usual, the left suck at insults/memes. They have no counter for the simple and sweet "woke" statement, so they flounder about trying to find insults that will stick. They have looooong since played out "you are a nazi" over the pronoun thing. As usual they played their trump card too early.

Yeah chud seems to be a weird thing the crazies made up not too long ago.

There's plenty of times where they'll call people these titles even if the person isn't one. So at this point it's a honor if the insane side is calling you chud, incel, or bigot cause that means you're doing something right and is a sane person.

C.H.U.D is a great 80s horror movie though.

So here's Steam peak CCU landscape for multiplatform RPGs released in the past two years

1. Elden Ring = 953K ---> AAA Japan-made RPG
2. Baldurs Gate 3 = 857K ---> AAA Western-made RPG (console versions released 1-2 months later)
3. Dragon's Dogma 2 = 290K --> AAA Japan-made RPG
4. Granblue Fantasy = 114K --> AA Japan-made RPG
5. Hades 2 = 105K --> AA Western-made RPG
6. Dragon Age: The Veilguard = 89K ---> AAA Western-made RPG
7. Metaphor = 85K --> AA Japan-made RPG

The more I read about the game, the more I see that the writing is garbage. The dialogue is written like its for kids, honestly. I'll buy this when its $20 just so I can see the conclusion to the story. All those 10/10 reviews I saw are lies, there is no way a game with such shitty writing can be perfect. I do agree that the graphics and combat are solid, but not good enough to suddenly make this game one of the best ever (which is what a 10/10 review implies).

6/10 Dragon Age game from 2 friends that bought the game, if you are a little older 30+ theres a lot of moments in the dialog that you roll your eyes, gameplay is ok (its simplified), the game looks good, sound is ok, ill not buy this one, here in Brasil games are really expensive. These diferent Pronoums thing is common in USA/Canada? Ppl make fun of those who use it here in Brasil.

People like me and my friends that loved Origins are not the target of this game, and thats fine, we are a little older.

Sorry about my english
it's really not common at all in normal life, but seems to be extremely so among the sort of people who write videogames.

That's fine, don't buy it and let the market forces do what they do.

I can't seem to run from the culture war non sense on neogaf, (it literally in almost every thread) so might as well have some fun with it. I have no vested interest in how well dragon ages does.

Yeah I swear that up until a week ago the only meaning of that word I knew was in all capitals C.H.U.D.
Now it seems like a word that everyone just collectively decided on a meaning of overnight and I wasn't invited to the meeting.

I’m with you on that. Not buying it. My point is this, I never go out of my way to hurt people’s feelings. No need. But if a simple, sincere apology doesn’t cover it, that person can fuck right off. Just all the unnecessary ass kissing in the “apology” scene made me roll my eyes.

There are plenty of things I like about Veilguard, but the game genuinely feels like a DnD campaign with a quirky group of friends where the DM just wants everyone to have a nice time.

Obviously bad things happen. The blighted village is gnarly, but it is all bunch of people you don't know essentially. It is shocking and tragic but it is just bad guys being bad guys.

But the player is never morally attacked or challenged. Even in the big decisions like choosing A or B to save (you know whiche one) hardly feels moral because in the end either place is going to get trashed anyway. It is just a choice of which one vibes with your character better. It isn't really moral as much as it is unfortunate.

Wasn't sure where to drop this so I'll do it here.

I think this comment hits the nail on the head about the overall vibe of the game. At least from what I've seen. Veilguard is equivalent to a DnD 5e campaign where the DM wants everyone to have a nice time. Modern DnD is very whimsical and carefree (to a fault IMO).

We're basically in "participation trophy" territory with new releases.

I think for most of us our lives will go on perfectly fine regardless of whether Veilguard broke CCU records or fell into Concord territory. So it is just having fun with it all around.

honestly this is a major problem with the current DEI/woke regime and we see it all over the place, not just vidya. Yea it's funny when shitlibs whine about being racist to LOTR orcs and how the shitty amazon show tried to make you empathize with them but this does effect every aspect of a game, lore, worldbuilding, etc. The entire thing comes off as fake and inauthentic and somehow the Yoel Roth-era Twitter censors are in charge of this world.

This is also why "uhh sweaty i've been playing the game for 6000 hours and i only saw one "woke" thing" stuff is BS. It is clear this ethos permeates every single part of the game.

I'm pleasantly surprised that people in the Dragon Age reddit are questioning things. I'm also surprised that the mods haven't shut that conversation down, considering they've banned people for simply engaging in other subreddits

It's pretty embarrassing that DAV in its debut weekend, did not at any point surpass the CCP count of BG3, which was released more than a year ago, and has not released any DLCs to date. The spiritual successor to DA had more people who wanted to play it in Nth time than people wanting to play the actual sequel to DA for the 1st time.

Speak for yourself.

As someone in the specialized hair dye coloring industry, I NEED these games to fucking succeed. We bet the farm and have a surplus on dyes that don't sell anywhere outside of western AAA devs.

Today its going to hit 150k ccu, I can feel it!

I think more and more people are starting to see it which has a direct impact on CCUs and viewership. There’s nothing that grabs you, nothing to sink your teeth into. All the problematic rough edges have been sanded down. It’s disposable junk for the lowest common denominator.

What do you mean?
Started with older millennials back in mid 2000s as I remember.
The ‘participation trophy’ was a phrase that described the emerging social trend to ‘include’ everyone.
I think of it as a precursor to the lowering of the bar (standards/skills) for many industries across society, where previously there were requirements.
Super Models had to diet down and earn their spot. Now fat people can be on the front cover of sports illustrated.
Basically my generation (soft millennials) didn’t want to do the hard work and earn things. They wanted to not feel bad for failing and not being super models, so we (they) collectively removed the bar.

This has more to do with "SELLING" merchandise to MORE consumers than caring about people that didn't want to work hard.

If the point of his comment was that it's a stupid, ineffective insult how did you come to that conclusion?

Because ironically enough, it's not a comment that's ineffective at all. It's clear the "insult" has an affect. Hence people here talking about it. The term chud is funny too.

All of this non-sense is silly stupid stuff that's tied to the West's culture wars BS. So add chud to the list of silly terms that's funny when used properly.

You can bet your ass they hoped for Baldur's Gate level of success, especially EA. Not even 90k ccu on Steam for the new Dragon Age game is by every metric consievable very close do a disaster.

At least it's technically sound, so if Bioware changes the writers, there's actually hope for Mass Effect.
Considering latest postings from that team on how Andromeda was “aktually good” except for pesky technical issues… I wouldn’t keep your hopes up.

Very true. Big money just wants to make more money. Unfortunately (big money doesn’t care) it results in mediocrity flooding the marketplace. *cough* veilguard.
Different groups with different interests intertwined. I never expect industry to be arbiters of the good and moral. It’s easier to make plus size clothing than to ask your customers to diet and exercise to fit into your brand.

You’re speaking generally about the insult. I’m asking why you accused the guy of being upset about the term when his comment doesn’t give off that vibe.

Dude, the "chuds" are literally throwing around chud memes themselves.
