Better start saving: the DualSense Edge controller will cost $199.99 / £209.99 / €239.99.

The product comes with a mountain of extras, here's everything you get for the price:

  • It’s easier than expected to take full advantage of the added features
  • Ergonomic back buttons
  • Intuitive software integration

  • Only two back buttons

Critic Reviews:

VGC - 4/5
At $200, DualSense Edge was never going to appeal to everyone. But for competitive players, the quality of its build, slick software integration and huge amount of customisation options means it’s undoubtedly the most premium PS5 controller you can buy.
TheVerge - 3/5
Sony’s DualSense Edge is like a director’s cut of a movie that improves on the original vision but costs 185 percent more to watch. Enjoyment is always hard to quantify, but this $199.99 controller (almost the cost of three DualSense gamepads) is stuffed with features that might be worth that extra cost to you, or not.
IGN - 9/10
The DualSense Edge controller puts its customization front and center with its slick software and intuitive Function buttons, finally giving PlayStation owners an answer to the venerated Xbox Elite.
Polygon: Not Recommended
The DualSense Edge comes in at $199.99 — half the cost of the digital-only PS5 model. That’s... pretty steep, though it’s not far off from Microsoft’s offering of the Elite Series 2, which is $179.99 (although sales frequently drop it down to around $150). I’m sure that professional streamers and esports athletes will have no problem spending the money and writing it off on their taxes. But for average folk, that a lot to shell out. Does it make playing PS5 games a nicer experience? Unquestionably. Does it give you an advantage to be able to, say, aim and jump at the same time in Fortnite thanks to the back buttons? Yes, it does.
Dexerto - 3/5
This is far from a bad controller, but at $200, it is a tough pill to swallow, and we think that Sony’s hardware design wizards could have done a little better when it comes to designing a controller made for power users and pro gamers, no matter how lovely and slick the software is, the hardware and price don’t quite match up.
TheGamer - Not Recommended
The Edge is a big upgrade on the DualSense in a lot of small ways, and it will be my go-to controller for the rest of the PS5’s life cycle I expect. However, is it a $200 upgrade? I’m not sure. The steep price tag hurts my recommendation here - you could get three DualSenses and have change from the price of an Edge. If you’re a hardcore player looking for more ways to min-max your performance with minute customisation, then the Edge is an excellent choice. But for most people, it doesn’t do enough to justify the expense.
TheLoadout - Recommended
The DualSense Edge might come at a premium, but it fills a gap in the PS5 market. With intuitive controls and unrivalled personalisation, the only thing that lets the Edge down is its battery life.
GamesRadar - 3.5/5.0
The DualSense Edge is a premium-feeling controller for PS5. Whilst there are certainly great quality of life updates to be had here, the Edge doesn't truly fix the biggest issues with the DualSense. For the high cost, you can get a slew of third party controllers with more buttons and only a few less features.

Come on baby been waiting since PS4 for an official premium controller. Spend all my time interfacing with PC and PS5 via this tool so 200 ain’t too bad.

Confirmed that back buttons works on PC. You just cant remap them yet. So the controller uses the same settings you had on PS5.

I got the PDP pro bfg controller in on Thursday. It is $20 bucks cheaper and has an incredible amount of customization available for the pad. I would consider this very niche hardware. I should get the Edge in sometime this week as well.

I don't need a dongle for the Edge (the bfg controller requires one to work wirelessly with pc/console) but I am looking forward to giving them both a go to see which I like better (assuming the bfg gets the win here).

Complaining about price point is such a weird thing to do when it comes to gaming (for most of us, not all of us) — which is a luxury — where most of us have spent upwards of $500+ on our gadgets. Sure, what the product offers feature wise may not be what you want, but being surprised by price alone is a bit of a weird take.

Ignoring that most of us have huge backlog of games that we haven't played. Something you can only do if you have 'disposable' income.

Make the reviewers buy it and then review it lol...

On the real though, I think it looks pretty decent. Would deffo invest if the PS5 was my main platform.

Battery life seems to be a point of contention. My P5 controller seems to die fairly quickly so that does suck. Will put this on my wishlist and. probably cop when TLOU factions drops.

I wonder if we’ll see replacement stick modules from Gulikit or others that use Hall sensors instead?

they’ve made some that can be used with joy-cons and the Steam Deck
Would be nice, but didn't they smack down companies making replacement side panels for the PS5? They're not keen on anyone profiting from their designs.

Its for sure not targeting the average consumer, its 100% for people that have a little green to burn

Seems odd that you can't beat the competition when your controller is more expensive and the competition is like 3 to 4 years old now. Maybe more?

It's more that the price is ridiculous given how they've gone as cheap as possible on every component of this thing. Obviously so they can sell this thing at 40-50% off on Black Friday etc. and still make a profit.

it's cool and all but I would have liked to see a bigger battery for this "pro" controller ._.

I guess the additional weight was just a bridge too far

Hmm, yeah, sure.

Haha, funny! If they are not offering what you want for the price they are asking, you can just ignore it and move on, specially if it is lacking in some features that you actually wanted. I dunno. Most people who post here spend a lot of on their gaming habits so saying something is too expensive seems weird to me.

Clearly, their research went wrong somewhere! (Referring to Sony)

Above a price point that I would pay, but they sure do look nice. I imagine to many, the price isn't going to be a problem

First Elite controller came out in 2015 and even though I am getting this Edge I agree with you they should have at least equaled the Elite 2 in some areas like 4 back buttons

I am only getting this controller for shooter games to have the back buttons and trigger stops but honestly it still wont top the Elite 2 for me though the Elites are usually junk and have to replace the bumpers in mine to something thats not cheap plastic

Beat the competition? You really should look a little closer at the differences before making a statement like that.

I'd rather have a DualSense version of 8Bitdo Ultimate. Best controller ever made. Has back buttons and configuration software. Comes with recharging base. 15 hour playtime. Costs $50

I really even like their wired Xbox controller

I do agree with him to a degree but thats coming from someone who prefers the Xbox controller anyhow over the Dualsense

There are Kia drivers and there are Lexus drivers. For Kia drivers, the DualSense Edge release was the most important event in their gaming lives but for us....it was only a Tuesday.

I'd say haptics is clear advantage for DualSense. Edge's ability to replace the thumbsticks is an advantage over Elite. Four back buttons and superior battery life are advantages for Elite. Personal preferences aside, seems to odd to make blanket statements.

Haptics is 100% better on the DS which I do love in some games but I can also change the thumbsticks and the D pad both on the Elite 2

you can replace the thumb stick in an elite as well can't you? or has Sony done something different with this?

I think you can only swap out the tips of the thumbsticks, not the actual part below that.

Oh the entire module?

Yeah big win for the Edge

I'm referring to the entire thumbstick module. That is a key feature of Edge.

I only would have bought this for improved battery life. Sony dropped the ball.

Yep. I'm not paying $200 for worse battery life.
