DRIV3R Shipments: 2.5M Worldwide [6/24/2004 4:16:22 PM ET]

After being coy about such figures prior to launch, Atari, Inc. stated today that initial worldwide shipments of its DRIV3R videogame totaled 2.5 million units.
Available for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, the title was released on June 21 in the U.S. and June 22 in Europe and Australia.
Debbie Mola, Electronics Boutique’s divisional vice president of merchandising, said, “With just three days of sales, DRIV3R is certain to be one of our top three sellers for the month of June. We had high expectations for the title and it is meeting them."

It will sell. It'll end up being this year's Enter the Matrix. It won't sell as well as ETM but they will be similar in so far as they are both crappy, buggy games that will sell much much better than they deserved to.
