Idk why playing SunMo holds you back from getting the Switch version. That doesn't make sense.

I dunno how if it's basically a port of Sun and Moon. When I imagined a console Pokemon game, it wasn't the same as what we get on handhelds.
This port will be cool though. Then we can look forward to seeing if they really go all out with the power of the Switch for the real Switch Pokemon game.
This doesn't make much sense as Switch got leaked months before the official reveal during the time Nintendo said absolutely nothing.
As I've said before, i think Nintendo planned Switch release for this fall, hence more information reached people who wouldn't usually had gotten this information at this point and they seem to be talkative.
What I expect to happen from now on is Nintendo being even more secretive, even less people knowing about stuff until the very last moment.
Because the games aren't going to be completely unrelated, and a lot of people don't double dip on purchases or replay games (especially in such a short time period). Makes sense to me.
Yeah that's what throws me off as we could have easily had "Pokémon Z" this year and had Sun and Moon next year on the switch.
I guess Game Freak felt like getting a head start on gen 7, which makes me suspect that the Switch will also have 2 generation.

Of course it will. Almost every handheld has had 2 generations, aside from the GB (only R/B/Y) and GBA (although that had Fr/Lg)
Actually, I was referring to regular, non-gaming mainstream media reporting on these games, often in the technology segments. There will be sufficient people who won't know, but there will also be many people, not only the hardcore, who will know about at least Mario 3D and Pokémon Stars.

This is the only thing that makes me doubt the accuracy of this. Looking at the trailer with that image of pikipek and the ingame version, they could very easily be the very same model. It sounds to me like someone who doesnt know much about game development saw that shot in the trailer and thought "Wow, thats a super hi resolution model! Might be a Switch version!" And ran with the idea from there.
Firstly: We already know that the models used in sun and moon are surprisingly hi res/ high poly count.
Secondly: Even if the model in the trailer is not the exact one used in Sun and Moon, it could just be the high res model used to make the lower res one for the actual game, a practice widely used nowadays
So using that as their big main proof is kind of odd to me.
Having said that they could be right about the game, and just tried to fill the blanks in themselves, or their informant could be filling in gaps, or who knows.
Could go either way, I'm just saying, take this part with a grain of salt.

Local multiplayer with each player having their own save and screen was kind of a big deal. Worked better on portables, and unlike Monster Hunter didn't have the baggage of starting as a home game to work past in its transition to portables. There'd have been nothing stopping them from developing home versions alongside the portable ones, but it would've been a great increase in effort for relatively little increase in sales. So home got the Stadiums and Gale of Darkness and other side games to mostly work with the portable games.Bubba_Sparks said:

I imagine the initial release was gonna be Zelda in spring, Pokemon for summer, Mario in the fall, but with Mario being ahead of schedule and Zelda needing more time they all got shuffled to be Mario in spring, Zelda for summer, Pokemon for fall.

G/S also was GB compatible. Only Crystal was GBC exclusive.

Yeah, I never had a GB, only a GBC so I'm always unsure whether G/S was GB compatible or not, of the top of my head. It only strengthens my point that we usually see multiple gens per system and I don't see that changing now

When is the rumoured release date of stars?
The third version has never released on a much better console than the first two (let alone be the first home console Pokemon). Even if people assumed a third version for this, it would have been safe to assume it would still be 3DS and Switch would get next gen.
I don't think this will hobble Sun and Moon by any stretch, but it will have some effect on sales.

Well, they did have an incentive deal for purchasing Sun/Moon that ran out on January 11th, so people probably could have put this together on their own...

I said they would be pissed. I've worked in teams that concern themselves with marketing leaks. Leaks like this do have some kind of effect on sales and revenue and buzz around your product. In an industry where people are budgeting what games to buy for the holidays, leaks like this are damaging.

Idk why people wouldn't double dip. The 3rd versions were never straightforward ports they usually added a lot of stuff. In black and whites case they just decided to make another game with the same geometry but different story. "Preorder canceled" seems really reactionary.
Pokémon games last usually dozens of hours. People do not always have much time to play games and thus prefer playing an enhanced version once instead of playing twice the same game. Even if the third version has additional content, not all people are ready to spend another several dozens of hours to enjoy what has been added. Better wait a bit more and directly enjoy the third version imo.
