They actually said that Summer 2017 was the original plan but it got pushed back. My guess, they pinned Zelda for a summer release, so Pokémon Stars got delayed to the holidays.

Pokémon games are exhausting, grindy, and repetitive. I stopped buying third versions a few gens ago because I would get bored going through the first several hours of campaign I played the year before. At least this time there's newness with kahunas, island challenges, etc

for me it's just I'm not really DYING to play it. I love Pokemon games and have gotten them all but I can easily wait 6-8 months. Lots of other games to play in the meantime between the shooters and ff15 coming up and others. It also gives me another reason to want the Switch beyond Zelda/Mario.

After month of Neoxon saying "It's not happening" on the NX speculation threads, It's nice to see that I was right 
Game Freak was pretty shitty when dealing with the 3DS. I guess the excuse of being Backwards Compatible let them make 2 Pokemon games pretty close to 3DS's launch (I think Black/White was a month before 3DS's launch and B/W2 was a year after) despite the 3DS struggling.
A Big new Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, DQXI, and more targeting year one seems like a pretty amazing line up.

I doubt it. This will most likely be an upressed version of the 3ds versions. The next generation is when we will see the true leap
To be honest, despite knowinf this, I'm still excited for this Switch version of Sun and Moon.

All of this. Go look at the sales of 3rd version Pokemon games and compare them to the sales of the initial versions, the 3rd versions always sell massively less, e.g. DP sold 17.6 million whilst Platinum sold 7.6 million.
The majority of people do not double dip and are content with buying only one Pokemon game per new generation, along with a remake of an older generation game if there is one, otherwise it's just the one for them because even with all the added content 3rd versions have, you're basically still playing through the exact same shit with the same damn story you've already seen.

pretty much every 3rd version sells about 40-50% what the original versions sold,

If its really a third version, it would be far too soon to sell it like 7 months later vs 12 anyway. And they have no reason not to put it on the 3ds next year also.

Holy crap, when did B2/W2 outsell Pokemon Platinum!? I was always under the impression those were the worst-selling Pokemon games.
It's more like 60-70% of the original tbh, with Yellow and B2W2 coming closer to the 50% mark, and your post implies that if third versions had two games then they would sell closer to the original versions, but B2W2 put an end to that myth, they only sold a million more copies than Platinum did.

A return to Kalos would be immense.
Hope they do DLC. Pokemon is one series I wouldn't mind a Destiny-style approach, with lite story expansions dropping every year, as a sequel is in the works.

More like third. 3D Mario and Zelda will be killer apps as well. Heck, Splatoon Switch will likely be a killer app in Japan, so make that four.
Though Pokemon will probably sell more than all three.

The games we know about are coming out like within the first six months and a number of them are ports so I don't see how people can think that.

Actually, that may be why they eschewed the normal 3rd version and just went to Gen VII.
At the very least it has to have better textures and dof. What other improvements it'll have beyond that remains to be seen.

A modern lighting engine to complement the setting would be nice too. Saw someone point out WWHD as a good example. Assets are still GCN level for the most part (I think textures are smoothed over but not redone) but it looks amazing most of the time. Would suit the tropical setting too.

Before Popplio and it's line come along, I always thought a Dolphin and Mermaid hybrid could work as a good water starter line. Have it be water/fairy and have a similar build to Milotic. Primarina destroyed those dreams. Although I actually like Popplio, Brionne and Primarina's design.
Yeah I agree, but you never know with Game Freak. That said, as a correction, WWHD's textures were totally redrawn, not just a simple smoothing over.

Lets see.. the PICA200 GPU in the 3DS' GPU is around 6.4GFLOPS. If the Switch is around 512 GFLOPS, that is exactly 80x , and that doesn't include Switch's advantage in using FP16. It also has over 30x the RAM for games (96MB vs 3.2GB), and CPU power that may have an even greater difference than the GPU.
The Switch likely doesn't have PICA200's fixed shaders, but there is such a massive difference in raw power that a 60fps frame rate and 1080p resolution should be a given unless they massively bump up other things.
I like Pokémon games but they all have the same rhythm that gets exhausting after a while. I play one Pokémon game and then I'm good for three years or so. I already have Moon so I'll skip the Switch version.
So is this the "N-Stars" game that was rumored months ago?
