eXtas1s: Fable Has Been Delayed To Fix Technical Issues, Improve Gameplay and Pace of Progression

Fable has been delayed to 2026 for a few different reasons, according to rumors circulating online, but the delay may not be all bad news for PlayStation 5 owners.

Well-known Xbox leaker eXtas1s reported in a new video that one of their sources who informed them about a possible delay for the new entry in the series at the end of last month, said Fable has been delayed to next year for a few reasons, which include technical reasons caused by the Forza engine that powers the game that has been created for racing games. Also, additional development time was required to make some other adjustments to the game, including gameplay adjustment and pace of progression improvements, as gameplay in one of its first forms wasn't considered too fun. While it wouldn't have been a proper Fable game without a delay caused by technical issues, the comments on gameplay are certainly more concerning, so hopefully, the additional development time will help in this regard.

While this unnamed source said that Fable hasn't been delayed specifically due to the development of PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 ports, a simultaneous console multiplatform launch is within the realms of possibility, according to well-known insider NateDrake. As the game was apparently scheduled to launch on other consoles one year after its PC and Xbox debut, it's definitely possible for Fable to launch on all consoles and PC at the same time in 2026.

The Fable delay to 2026 was confirmed yesterday during the latest episode of the official Xbox podcast. You can head over here to learn more about the announcement and check out some pre-alpha gameplay.

I feel like underappreciation of designing action gameplay is widespread.

Some games have a really complete template, like dark souls. You can plug in your own stuff and sort of paint by numbers. You may not end up with something as good as the original, but you still basically have that kind of game.

Meanwhile, you just try that with dmc. That is a much less complete template and you are going to need some talent that really understands action gameplay or the game is going to be useless.

Developers learned in the 90's that it wasn't as easy to copy street fighter as it looked. But it seems like these days there are still plenty who think they can just make up melee gameplay as they go along. ie: "how hard could it be?".

Most games aren't pure action, where that gameplay has to carry the whole thing. Even in rpg's though, there are plenty of cases where the fighting is "fine" for the first 20, 40, even 70 hours before it starts to grate. A big complaint with rebirth is that the game is too big but for me, that gameplay system keeps me coming back and I'm looking forward to a hard mode run sometime. Nobody wants to through a game again on hard if it plays like shit.

IMO, delayed for simultaneous release sounds better than "which include technical reasons caused by the Forza engine that powers the game." This is not good news.
A bit funny how they threw them under the bus like that. The last Forza Motorsport game was a mess though, its only recently become solid a year later.

“which include technical reasons caused by the Forza engine that powers the game that has been created for racing games.”

This is just so weird a direction they took on the technical side of things.

Reminds me of EA and trying to shove Frostbyte everywhere and Andromeda technical disaster.

Maybe issues with visibility and world persistence, both of which can be constrained in a driving game.
Just a wild guess, though.

It's certainly possible to convert a vehicle sim engine into a FP/TP character-based game. Project IGI 1 and 2 were both built on a flight simulator engine. So were Delta Force 1 and 2.

Oh hey, this is known to be coming to Switch 2 for sure? Interesting, guess it all will really.

It’s not to meet a PS5 release nor is it the other rumor of avoiding GTA6, game needs work
yep. what im saying is that a PS5 Port shouldn't even be on the table if the game is having tech issues.

at this point we had more footage from Starfield and Redfall before their respective year long delay.

I wonder what kind of financial and critical pressure Xbox Game Studios has... if any?

... this game has to be a God Of War 2018 or Horizon Zero Dawn moment for Xbox.

The game was "supposed" to release this year, so at least within the next 10 months...And they're fucking releasing 53 second PRE-ALPHA "gameplay" clips.

How was this NOT disturbing to everyone else??

Agree. Thats not the kind of trailer you release 1 - 1.5 years before the games release.
I don't believe extas1s.

is this even a guarantee?

I think this "leak" suggests that a simultaneous release could be problematic at best. What is MS´s priority?

a) To release the best game possible?
b) To release a rushed PS5 version date and day?

Not a guarantee at all just commenting I would much rather then delay the game if it meant titles launched cross platform on the same day like standard third party publishing.

It would keep so much more life and activity in the titles they choose to do so on.

It doesn't need an insider to say it; in the few seconds that were seen a few days ago, it's clear that a lot of work is needed on animations, combat and gameplay. Commissioning a game like Fable from a studio that's new to the genre and on top of that using the Forza engine was not a good idea; too many years of development were required.

In most cases, the technical issues are platform agnostic when it comes to XboX/PS5. If it performs like shit on one it will for the most part perform like shit on the other, give or take a few fps or fr dips.

And 1+ year of delay for porting it to the PS5 is more than enough time. I'd speculate that the PS5 version is already being worked on at this very moment anyway.

The most plausible explanation is simply that the game isn't ready and needs further work & polish. And in that case delaying it is a good thing.

The PS5 version or the avoiding GTA 6 version

I didn't hear anything directly related to the engine

Eh....I don't know. The way Xbox games have seemed to underperformed of late, I wouldn't say anything is outside the realm of possibility as far as the reasons behind the delay. Could be a combination of multiple factors.

Unless you are saying you know otherwise.

Blink twice if you can't talk right now.

Oh I am not saying a PS5 version wont launch day one as honestly I have no clue

I just know that's not the reason for this delay
