What's up with PS5's nose dive numbers?

I think it is inventory clear out in advance of the new sku. You can't even buy PS5 on amazon.co.jp at the moment.

Probably most units locked in for North America and Europe to take advantage of Spider-Man's release. It should also mean the new SKU is hopefully available for purchase relatively soon.

It makes sense to let the old stock drain out, but such bad timing as spiderman 2 is there biggest release this year. But then again, it probably would not have made a huge difference on ps5 hardware sales anyway.

Mario's sales are surprising to me. I expected 2d mario to get a big boost compared to previous entries like other series have on the Switch. NSMB Wii did 936k for example.

Including digital it may have matched that but I was hoping for record sales. It deserves it as this is the first time Nintendo has put real effort into 2D mario since 2006. Except for MM

PS5 HW is presumably dead now until the slim launch.

Something tells me the Nintendomination in Japan is, at least, one of the reasons why some PS executives may have wanted Jim Ryan out and they've been pushing for it for years already

What's going on with the PS5 hardware?

I guess the thing about 'require internet conection to the drive disk' make consumers praise the current SKU even more. Japan love more physical than digital, so they maybe are getting the last PS5 models that was left.

Seems like terrible timing. Sony launches one of their biggest software titles while the system is difficult to purchase in Japan.

Spider-Man was never going to push a ton of units in Japan.

Makes sense to get as many units in NA and EU as possible, that includes the new slims too. The worst thing Sony could do is sell out of units in the west, not only leaving money on the table, but potentially pushing more people to Xbox. That's not something they're afraid of in Japan.

Eh, it’s only a few weeks tho. The high sales when the new model does launch will more than make up for it. And the install base currently is decent enough to launch the game into.

Third party heaven.
The only PS5 game, third-party or otherwise, with an opening over 150K is Final Fantasy XVI (336K) and the figure wouldn't have been anywhere close to crack into that top 13 you've quoted.
In fact even considering lifetime sales no PS5 game has cracked 500K at retail yet.

I know. That's why I said heaven. Incredible performance for third party games on the Nintendo Switch!

Jim Ryan will be able to retire in March 2024, at 60, after breaking PlayStation records by selling 25 million units, boosting sales in the US and Japan to the highest level in two decades, making more profit than all his predecessors combined, and overseeing an unprecedented expansion of SIE studios and partnerships.

Uhhh PS5 is doing better than PS4 and 3 though..

PS5 Fat is now trending 50% above PS4 Fat and 40% ahead of PS3 Fat in Japan.

So according to top sony exec ps5 is fully stocked around the world

hmm someones lying i think, as if that was the case no way would the weekly sales be that low.

On November 10th, the PS5 Slim will be available for purchase in Japan.

PS4 Fat -> Slim

6,760 (Week 35, 2016)
2,302 (Week 36, 2016)
364 (Week 37, 2016)
96,567 (Week 38, 2016)

Not every franchise gets a Switch boost (see Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion). With digital Wonder will be about the same as NSMB DS and NSMB Wii.

I would say that is highly highly unlikely. PS5 performance in Japan is strong hardware, weak software. But its not something that makes your force out a global executive.

Great opening for Mario Wonder, I am sure it won't leave the top 10 for a long, long time. Pikmin 4 still refusing to leave the top 10, you love to see it lol.
