[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "Donkey Kong Returns HD" tops the charts for the third consecutive week! "Black Myth: Wukong," "Vanguard Dear Days 2," and "Phantom Brave" also make the top 10 [1/27 - 2/2]​

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time, we bring you a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from January 27th to February 2nd, 2025 in Japan.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, the HD remastered version of the title released for the Wii in 2010 continues to sell well. It sold 22,093 units, taking the top spot for the third consecutive week.

This week three new titles ranked in the top 10. Looking at them in order, third place is Black Myth: Wukong, an action RPG based on Journey to the West. The digital version was released in August 2024 and was well-received with the packaged version being released on January 30, 2025.

Coming in at number four is Cardfight!! Vanguard Dear Days 2 , a digital game from the Vanguard series which has been expanded across a wide range of media . It contains over 3,000 cards, three times as many as the previous game and you can enjoy battles in a variety of modes.

And in ninth place is Phantom Brave: The Ghost Fleet and the Vanished Hero, an RPG packed with innovative systems such as the ability to possess allies through items on the map and have them participate in battle. All of these titles are sure to generate sales in the future, making this a lineup that will leave you intrigued.

Sad that it's considered a miracle for Black Myth Wukong to edge out Cardfight!! Vanguard Dear Days 2, whatever the hell that is.

Well they need to drastically do something to increase the ps5 userbase as once again a weekly total of barely over 10k with all skus combined is pretty poor. Gta6 will mostly save it in the West but monster hunter needs to be able to do the same in japan as now all eyes are on the upcoming switch 2 Sony have their work cut out to try and lure potential switch 2 buyers into grabbing a ps5 instead.

Switch still up year over year, even after the reveal of its successor, absolute beast of a system.

Decent opening for Wukong, considering its on a console Japan doesn't care for.

It's crazy, and it will probably get a big boost when the new Pokemon games come out later this year.

As time goes on, I'm starting to agree with the idea that the Switch 2's biggest competitor will be the original Switch itself. Obviously game enthusiasts like us will go nuts and buy it right away, but depending on how compatible cross gen software is, a lot of the general public might just stick with Switch for the next couple years.
