Feel like shit. Anyone have any cold remedies?

Got a headache, my nose is running, burning up, and got this annoying cough. Can't even remember the last time I've been sick so this sucks. Anything I can do to expedite the road to recovery or am I just gonna have to ride this one out?

Big bowl or pan full of boiling water, stick a towel over your head and the bowl, breathe the steam in for a while. Feels good man. Always makes me feel better when I have a cold.

See if you can get some lozenges with zinc in them. Zinc usually reduces sick time. And just keep hydrated and take whatever cold medications you have.

Fresh ground ginger tea with lemongrass and lots of honey helps the most for me. I try to eat lots of ginger and garlic when I'm sick.

Zinc is good at the onset of symptoms. Someone on gaf had a cold last week, and I think the week before. Someone should bring up those links quickly so this guy can get the help he needs fast. Great advice on soothing the common cold, crucial reading.

Purchase as many as you can.

Get some piping hot Pho with lots of spice.
Ah man, and slice in some thai chili peppers...sweat that cold out

THIS REALLY WORKS. Getting over my own cold right now.
I used to have a lot of that stuff, but I think you're supposed to take it at the onset of a cold. It's too late for me I think. I'm stuck at work with nothing but Riccola at the moment. Think I might bail out later if this gets worse

Ugh, I started to get a cold on Christmas Day but didn't give a fuck so drank alcohol and didn't bother taking anything to see if I could ride it out. Yesterday, it got worse, so much sneezing, headache but today I'd be feeling better if I wasn't for this horrible cough that I have. My headache's gone and body aches are gone, so has my sneezing but this cough is the worst. I've been drinking lemsip max all day but it hasn't done anything. I haven't been this sick in a long time. Other than that I have felt drugged up all day. Everything's like a blur.

As soon as I feel the first symptoms I immediately start with the zinc therapy. I have tried different varieties but I tend to prefer the spray. Several sprays over the tongue, tonsils, roof of mouth every 2 or 3 hours, do not drink for about 15 mins after, and no OJ or citrus foods for 30 mins before or after. Should shorten the length and severity of the cold.

I'm prone to catching just about everything so I just keep a small bottle of the spray in my backpack at all times during cold season.

The spicy food thing is probably true as spicy food is known to stimulate your immune system. Other than that, plenty of liquids. water or your favorite tea. Avoid overly caffeinated stuff if possible (i go with green tea, very mild caffeine. or herbal tea), and also avoid dairy.

Hope you feel better man.

You should see my bedroom stash. One cup for lemsip max, one cup for regular tea, water, Beechams Veno's cough mixture, halls soothers, a carton of Ribena, a packet of Lemsip Max and some Dettol Neutra Air. It's a hypochondriac's wet dream. I just want to get better for my birthday on the 30th :(

Eat healthy foods, like fresh fruits/veggies.

Drink plenty of liquids, not just water, maybe Gatorade or juices.

Cold medicine also works. But it might just put you to sleep.

Take a hot shower if you are feeling achy and/or congested. This will help you relax and breathe easier.

Foods like garlic and stuff that contains vitamin C can help boost your immune system. Hot water with honey or sugar can relieve a sore throat.

Rest. It'll be over in a day or two.

Make tea, chop up some garlic cloves and put it in the tea, put some honey in as well. Drink the tea and eat the garlic cloves after your done.

Hydrate (my fave is tea), sleep, maybe neti pot if you're having a ton of sinus pressure. Stay away from dairy, 'cause it makes you phlegmy, and maybe do the steamy bowl of water & towel over the head trick. I even add peppermint sometimes!

Seriously, though, hydrate.

Thanks man. Hope I'm better before new years :/ Drinking lots of water for now. Gonna try the garlic/tea/honey trick later tonight

I definitely feel you. This is my first time being sick as well in ages. I actually went in to work today because I have no temperature anymore, but my nose is still running like crazy and sneezing a bunch.

I work at a telemarketing job so I wonder where I got it from? lol.

Lately I've become a big believer in the alka-seltzer cold and cough fizzy tablets. The stuff seems incredibly and instantly soothing to sinuses and throats. Works better than theraflu for me or any hot tea/honey mixtures.

The Nyquil mostly just knocks you out but does soothe symptoms, and the Cepacol cooling is wonderful for the throat and breathing in general. Girlfriend's a nurse and they use Cepacol a lot at the hospital. The new cooling sensations version is just fantastic. Also herbal teas... not sure how much good they really do in expediting getting over the cold itself, but some of them are really pleasant to drink.
