According to noted industry insider ‘NateTheHate,’ who has a record of revealing information about video games ahead of their official reveal, both titles, which have been rumored for several years, are still on the way.

Replying to a user on X who asked about the status of both games, NateTheHate said, “Both remain in active development. FFIXR isn’t expected to see release in 2025. Maybe we’ll see it launch in 2026.”

Final Fantasy 9 was originally released in 2000 for the PlayStation. It was directed by Hiroyuki Ito, who later directed Final Fantasy 12.

Please let it be 1 game. Tired of these milked ff games. Tht why I don't buy it.i get it u make money off the sales but having us wait 10 years for 3 parts is ridiculous

Please be a single title, please be a single title, please be a single title.

I am assuming it will be a A budget level remaster. So it'll be one game but it will be underwhelming if you were expecting a big improvement.

What they did with FF7R is a one time thing. I don't think they can justify an AAA budget for any of the other FF games.

Edit: I am thinking more like AI upscaled backgrounds, a bit better models and maybe voice acting. And that's it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

If that's all they do then it's a fucking shame. The amazing Moguri mod has already been out for years.

Please, Square, don't let Nomura get near this project in any directing capacity. He can contribute as an artist. That's about it.
You think he has enough time in his day to bother with this? Remember: Final Fantasy 7 R part 3, Kingdom Hearts 4, and the FFX rumors.

If this is true, it means that this will be in dev for over 5 years for a remaster. Seems unlikely that all or any of these leaks are true. Also Yoshi-P keeps soft deconfirming them anyway.

The problem with this kind of remake is making the same mistakes as other titles that literally ruined the artistic direction with ugly characters.

They especially need to preserve the beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds, maybe in the same way as Star Ocean 2. But in full 3D, I don't believe in it.

Those rumours come from the same type of FF fans, that's why it's obvious bullshit.
Also the fact that SE said IX would be more work to Remake like VIIRemake due to its intentional artstyle and making sure it's faithful.
That's when the rumours changed to being a lower budget faithful Remake.. 🙄
The only hint of another Remake that's come from Square in interviews is VIII and even that was a big IF from them and they said would be a long way off if it was to happen.
They even mentioned stuff they would like to do in a VIII Remake, so they obviously been thinking about it
Fun fact - what further cemented it was FFVIII Remastered for current gen was ment to be like FFVII & FFIX ports but the Remake team interfered and wanted to enhance it more and was getting carried away with it and had to stop and return to FFVII Remake to work on and that's why we got a Remastered Version and Physical Release instead of a Mobile port like IX got.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's already concept artwork for a FFVIII Remake.

So odd. Didn't we see a tweet sometime last year that said it was done and they were sitting on it? Now it's over a year away?

I still hope Square and Yasumi Matsuno get together for a game again at some point.
He's also nearing his 60s in age. Keep in mind even though people like Nomura and Matsuno appeared to have had a torch passed to them, they were technically peers, at least in age range, with Sakaguchi.

FFIX plays wonderfully with the Moguri Mod. Now it supports 60+ FPS even. There are plenty of mods to customize the UI too.

No need to wait for a remake if you want to play it. It still looks charming, the art style is really good. It looks even better on the Steam Deck.

Thanks for posting this, I might actually give FFIX a whirl on PC soon.

Just PLEASE get rid of Armathist or whatever that freaks name is and also Quina. They serve no purpose to the story. Also, make the BRAT a little less annoying.
Honestly I think that it's only major issues that NEED fixing. :)

Wow that looks great, who made it?

Thank god he's that busy then. No chance to fuck up this project as well.
You say that but FFVII Remake & Rebirth is the best FF that's came out of SE since FFX.
Also funny enough people hating on Nomura also said the same about FFXVI being a true Final Fantasy and hyping it and well...

Interesting to see how they handle this, i think the world of IX is great but the gameplay aged so bad and the pacing was extremely tedious. If they nail it, i think it could be a banger.
Just keep the music though its the best soundtrack in the series.

Hard disagree, the gameplay is still awesome and the pacing never felt tedious. FFIX is one of the few games I'd consider timeless in every aspect, and every time I go back to play it, which is every 4/5 years or so, I fall right back in love with the game.

Trance system is terrible. You're one fight away from a boss, your character goes into trance right at the end of a fight before the boss wasting it. Tetra Master is a poor version of Triple Triad. The way the ATB is implemented with how long it takes for characters to perform an action - not to mention how long they're in the waiting animation before they even do anything, it makes the whole thing feel slow and sluggish.

I really like FF9, but it needs a lot of adjustments to be an enjoyable turn based game by today's standards.

Again, hard disagree.

1. There are ways to avoid trancing in battles before bosses.

2. Tetra Master > Triple Triad.

3. You can speed up combat in the menu options. The animations, combat, and ATB never felt slow or sluggish to me when doing this.

Your grievances are issues of personal preference, which has no bearing on whether FFIX "aged poorly."

All I ever needed from Square was some high fidelity remasters with high quality textures and voice acting. Leave the rest of the games the same.

This is Switch 2 all over again. Every year it's "next year". Eventually they'll be right.
Yup, (insert social account here) said this is coming out ________!

Always feels no different than being a kid and having some other little shit tell you the Super Nintendo 2 is coming out soon. Their uncle works at Nintendo and told them.
