I’m on 2 somehow when at 5 it seems too bright and washed bah

On HGIG? Whoa that shouldn't be the case at all. Did you make sure to calibrate the PS5 HDR while in the HGIG mode? You have to in order to maintain accuracy. Level 2 brightness with hgig calibration would be very very dark

Yes I calibrated it correctly! But I’m talking of night scenes right now. 5 seems very needless bright for such night settings I’m not sure 🤔

This game is so goddam great and so beautiful :messenger_smiling_hearts:
I love it.
Everything is great, except maybe the kind of on the nose story. Don't get me wrong, the story is captivating and nicely told, but you can see the twists coming a mile away.
Maybe it changes after, for now i reached the point where
Jill woke up and i must meet with her, just after the Garuda fight
But even that is not a real complaint, and it's often par for the course in japanese rpgs anyway
I was on the fence because of the 80eurobucks price tag but i manage to grab it at 70 and it so goddam worth every penny.
When i played forspoken it thought of it as a trial run for squenix to understand the new hardware. But compared to FFXVI it is a weak ps2 and a half game. There's almost a three generations gap between the two.

I only wants a combats game if the combats is deep and challangings

Should I get this?
I still quite early in the game but here my input.

So far the combat is not challenging but extremely satisfying.
If you like to experiment with creating combos and how to chain your abilities to make some flashy/efficient combo you'll like it.

But honestly I have the feeling I could just mash attacks/dodge and it will work for most of the battles. (But where the fun in that).
Again just 3 hours (so a bit after the prologue) in the game.

This game has some truly insane boss fight sequences. The part inside the Hall of the Ancestors is basically a boss rush, you fight like 3 mini-bosses in a row and then you're off to the Bowl of Embers for the biggest boss fight of the game so far. That boss has like 5 distinct phases, it's absolutely absurd how much the bosses in this game are FUCKING HUGE BOSSES. It's like how you remembered video game bosses from your childhood, the boss is this giant thing that fills your whole screen and your tiny character has to dodge gigantic screen filling attacks and then run up and plink it with it's tiny sword for 20 minutes until it dies.

I feel like this game's goal is to come up with bigger and bigger boss fights every time, so I'm wondering what the final boss is going to be like.

Jumping between locations to locations (grinding out levels) is pretty seamless thanks to the fast load times. Combat slaps, with the move set opening up.

I am level 29 now. I have to say the pacing is good. Story goes by quick.

As an RPG it is very basic so far. I also hate the spongy enemies, can get really tiresome.

Still can’t decide what’s better on my LG C9 HDR settings damn! HGIG or DTM 😭 it’s driving me nuts
I have the C9. Long ago I did quite of a bit of testing with various game and HGIG is definitely the way to go. I’d have to dig up old posts of mine from avsforum for details.

You mention it is too dim. Either you have adjusted something improperly, or you just need to acclimate to not having your retinas seared by DTM. I’d suggest resetting your picture “game” mode to defaults, go through the PS5‘s HDR calibration, and reset the game’s brightness to default. This is what I have done and every game looks perfect.

Up until yesterday, my time with Final Fantasy games was short. An hour at most per game. The characters didn't grab me and the stories didn't offer much choice or interesting plots. Plus, the leveling up was pretty simple. This latest game, changes a lot of this while keeping some familiar bits.

What makes it stand out is its serious medieval world and its upgraded combat. It's moved away from the old job system, and now fighting is quick, smooth, and a lot of fun. It's the first Final Fantasy I've enjoyed. I always thought that if they brought in some western-style combat, the game would be better. Turns out, it's not just better, it's amazing. The darker theme also makes a big difference.

Still, I wish there was better controls in the fights, the loot was more diverse and meaningful, and I had more control over my stats. Despite this, I think this game is a must-play. I'm 15 hours in and can't wait to jump back in.

Two complaints I don't have or at least differ from other people.

- Spongy enemies. Normal enemies go down within seconds, and heavies don't seem to take that long either.
- Early Side quests: After some complaints I thought they are going to be terrible or tedious, instead they were just on the simpler side? Also gave some charm to the world so I didn't really found anything to complain about, seem pretty chill. Quite liked ones like False Friend as well.

Anyway, that probably comes down to personal preference. Have my own complaints, but loving the game so far.

In the end I think it's just how the lighting in this game works, sometimes it's really, really ugly especially with distance objects and makes everything look muddy and loose details. Probably by darkening the brightness I got tricked in thinking I reacquired details when it was just a matter of not seeing all those browns and muds especially during daylight in game hours... or so is my guess. I switched back to HGIG and 5 brightness instead of 2 and I hope I'll grow accustomed eventually...

Are you running the game using performance mode? Because my first thought when I tried ”performance” was how muddy the game appeared with a lack of detail.

Yes I'm playing in performance. Tried multiple times going back to quality but battling like that is a chore compared to 60 fps. But I've seen resolution randomly can really take serious hits. But it's not what is driving me nuts here, it's just I can't find the right brightness. Sometimes it looks spectacular other times not, I think it's just how their engine and lighting system is built in this game at this point.

Btw I'm past the second area of the original demo, now everything should be fresh from here on. I hope I'm just at the beginning because time flies with this game lol.

Starting to get confused here. When I'm on HGIG and unto the HDR setting of the PS5 should I follow the instructions on screen and set the "suns" as suggested or follow what those tech channel on YouTube suggests and go for one level less in 1 and 2 and complete dark in set 3? I always kept as GamingTech suggested but maybe with this game doesn't apply?

Think I will put on the dog ring. He does nothing and all I do is get damage or waste my potions because using this guy on dpad is nonsense.
He is useful for launching ennemies in the air with charge attacks, but I agree that his gameplay on the d-pad is kinda clunky, I barely use it as a result

To be fair, based on how wildly fluctuating the Performance mode has been, it's kind of a no brainer if you value consistency.
Quality mode is inconsistent too though. Last night during a big scene it felt like my PS5 was chocking on a ham sandwich.

I'm about 5 hours in, overall it seems good so far but I don't think I'm near as hot on it as some here. It has that Sony first party formula vibe of Hallway->Battle->Cutscene->Rinse/Repeat that I'm really getting tired of. Luckily the story and environments are intriguing enough to keep me going. Battles are fun but easy so far.

Edit: Also, the game is a little too "on the nose" with the Game of Thrones inspirations.

FF has unfortunately always struggled with difficulty. FFXIV MSQ, FFXV, FFXII Zodiac Age, and FF7R are all waaaaay too easy. Like dmc and ninja gaiden I already know I will replay on the harder difficulty.

In the meantime? Just vibing with the story and music. So good so far.

This isn't a "Sony first party formula" thing, this is the final fantasy formula.

Any time they've attempted to depart from that formula it's been a disaster.

Wellll ...... FF12 is an amazing game and probably my most replayed of the PS2 gen, and that game is decidedly a huge departure from what the franchise was till that point.

I'm not sure, but it seems like God of War has had a greater impact on this game than traditional Final Fantasy. Elements like Clive navigating tight spaces and being obstructed by insurmountable rubble are reminiscent of gameplay with Kratos.

Great OT title. haha. Started this last night, really liking the story and aesthetic so far. It literally feels like Game of Thrones. Can't wait to dig in more.

Personal point but FF12 is one of my least favourite games in the series.

The only way I'd understand you saying this is if it were your first FF experience. That gameplay loop was there long before God of War came onto the scene.

The performance in both modes is the only disappointing thing about this game so far. Quality is too rigid and the motion blur is horrible. Performance has frame drops left and right. Played alllllll day yesterday, going back and forth, prefer performance.

Just finished the demo. How can you not buy it after the way it wraps up? Will be buying it either later today or tomorrow. Great demo and I’m sure the game just gets better.

My entry point was Final Fantasy I when it was released. FF16 does not feel like the classic FF gameplay loop. Most of the older Final Fantasy games, even the cutscene heavy ones you'd have to earn your way to those scenes through long dungeons, major battles, etc. This is exactly like modern AAA games where simply walking down a hallway and cutting down an enemy earns you another 5 minute scene.

We can agree to disagree here as I don't want to drag the thread down. I do like the game but it really does have modern AAA stink on it. I wasn't expecting it but should have if Square is aiming to compete at that level now.

This is fair. I guess the interval for cutscenes has shortened (from what I've played so far, but I'm early), even if the overall structure has remained the same.

This still very much feels like a FF game to me, the only way it differs so far is the new combat system.
