[Focus] Space Marine 2 update brings PS5 Pro support today

Lads, please let's not do this, the game, after the patch drops frames heavily when under hectic moments compared to the unpatched version on the Pro.

VRR doesn't help, I've already tried it, also, there are these... heavy stutters which - for some reason - appear to be random since they do happen even when there's not much happening on the screen.

Non reason in lying or even exaggerate, the game DOES look better now in perf.mode but it also DOES drop frames more frequently compared to the unpatched version.

This is gonna be another PS portal-like stutter discussion where many were "lol, it's fine for me, must be your internet/router/you're imagining things" isn't it ?

It's kind of sad to see in a technical forum like this one where performance discussions are a daily thing not discussing or throwing under the proverbial rug such - very visible and notable - problems, some may be satisfied with the end result but the fact is, the game now performs worse than it did unpatched on the Pro.

Not trying to single you chaps out, It's just that after seeing the ridiculous posts on Reddit where people gash over literally imaginary "updates" (ie , games that have no DRS/haven't received patches/don't have any improvements on the Pro)...how did Mugatu say it ? "I think I'm taking crazy pills" ?
Mate, there is an active group of non-gamers who have made it their mission in life to shit on the PS5 Pro unfairly.

Can you blame anyone for being skeptical before a DF video is actually released, about anything graphical to do with the PS5 Pro.

No you cannot.

I'll just be honest with you here. I don't believe your post either, so we'll see.

Posting again here. Performance mode really does look pristine. Still, I would not recommened without a VRR screen.
that's performance mode? It does look great for the amount of details.

Again, it looks better BUT, actually performs pretty much the same as the game on base PS5 (meaning, not good).
It SURELY runs worse compared to the unpatched version running on Pro.

It's good for those that do pixel counting, for those that actually like to play the game though it's not good.

It was actually A-OK on the Pro before this patch, at least the framerate was hovering above the 50-ish fps mark during hectic moments, now ? It can drop as low as 40something like before.

I'm friggin' disappointed
This is not true by the way. The pro look significantly sharper/better and run substantially better. The last scene in this video in one of the most demanding.

It has HDR on the PlayStation version.
Oh OK. Thats strange. When I looked into it, everyone said it didnt have native HDR. I'm assuming you've set HDR in the PS to only enable for games with HDR? To fully test launch a known SDR title first and check HDR isnt engaging. Then launch SMII. Cheers.

Giallo Corsa Giallo Corsa Are we sure that online co-op isnt having any bearing on your findings? Others may not be playing it online. I would have thought if the game is dealing with multiple players wouldnt it have a bearing on the CPU and therefore performance? Just a thought.

I don't have auto HDR on in the console settings.

Image quality/sharpness comparison.
Look at the armor. Look on the ground behind him.

The pro in motion compare to the ps5 is night and day differences. This is just motion cutscene. The ps5 look like a fuzzy mess when the resolution drop to the lowest with everything going on in action.

This update is clearly substantial and huge here especially image qualit/sharpness.

Yep. Frames drop into the 40s on base PS5 while only dropping to low 50s on Pro. That's a solid improvement.

PSSR clearly doing its magic here. It's much cleaner and less blurry (notably in motion). Framerate is a bit improved as well but far from been a big improvement. I wonder if they didn't improve the framerate on base PS5 too?

I was wondering the same. PS5 was noticeably worse than XSX in performance so could be both base PS5 and Pro versions received some optimization.

The Amiga Brotherhood
Wonder why this performs worse than XSX it's a puzzle yet to be solved guess DF will be on it at some point...

PSSR looks good must be using the latest 😉

frame rate is not ideal but that scene is one the most demanding one. It go from anywhere from 5 to 12 fps. I call this substantial out of 60fps, not just a bit.

They could easily make fidelity mode with PC max settings but who cares about 30fps users....
They increased the resolution on the fidelity mode using PSSR but I haven't seen any footage around. Every one is focusing on performance mode right now.

SpecsPS5PS5 Pro
Quality Mode Resolution1080p - 1440p with upscale FSR to 4K1080p - 2160p with upscale PSSR to 4K

They spent $10-20k on an interior designer and those backwalls.

They dont care about gaming.

From that far out, you are not going to be able to tell a difference in image quality anyway.
Do you know how many people actually do this, they buy like 65 inch OLEDs and proceed to sit like 3-5 metres from it and say wow look at the picture quality. I have an 85" inch and I sit exactly 3 metres from it. People come over and think it's too close but it's really not, they just don't understand how distance and peripheral vision works.

I strongly suggest all ps5pro owners to be very careful who they listen to in regard to ps5pro updates there is a definite narrative unfortunately and some games deserve the negativity but this one is a winner now hopefully with new releases being day 1 on pro and development alongside this will all be history by next summer
This is a very good observation and I also share your view. It’s popular to badmouth pro now and on PlayStation. In a vacuum, more people would be happier with it rather than being influenced by negativity.
Internet culture and over analysing is very unhealthy

This is the propaganda narrative from the usual suspects to be ignored. They did the same with PS4 Pro. But they were only giving praises for X1X (where most of the games were stuck to 30fps...). They are paid for.

Fidelity mode looks gorgeous. Almost looks like its native 4k. The resolution + higher res textures make it one of the best looking games of the gen imo. There are still some areas that dont look as good, but overall, the game has amazing visual in fidelity mode

I'm 2.4m from mine.

Space Marine 2 outputs at 120 (fluctuating) on my PS5 Pro, but it's very close to 120, is it using frame gen? or does it run in a 120fps container? if it does this is the first PS5 or PS5 Pro game to do so to my knowledge.

The problem with the Pro is that some people can't even tell the difference between 1080p and 4K especially sitting too far away on smaller TVs. The casual gamer thinks Pro is a scam because this kind of difference to them is neither here nor there. For me personally, I agree this is a huge difference, I play on an 85" TV and it's night and day to my experience. Some people are sitting like 4 metres from a 65 inch, it all looks very much the same to them.

Look really clean and sharp in the city section. Maybe the cleanest PSSR implementation I have seen.

Those metal geometry where darktide struggled and shows substantial alias especially in motion are no where to be found here. I am kinda impressed with image quality.

The question is, will DF zoom tool find flaw in this game with how clean this is?
We will find out lol.
