OK, while the PUBG and INZOI videos are rather hokey, let's think back to games that had meaningful/helpful NPCs that played along with you.
One of the most memorable for me was MGS V. You started off with D-Horse and then eventually Quiet and D-Dog, and they had interesting backstories and were very helpful in missions and engaging in the open world. While Quiet was controversial because of her over-the-top appearance, there were so many challenging missions in MGS V in which she saved you and added incredible cover fire. LOL, toward the end of MGS V, I actually switched off of Quiet to D-Dog because Quiet was so OP (with the tranquilizer sniper rifle).
That game is going on 10 years old. I am really looking forward to a great game creator like Hideo Kojima taking the time to develop the backstory and playstyle of coplayer NPCs using this type of technology. It will really deepen the immersion of the gameworld, while also extending the gameplay possibilities. Again, going back to some of the more difficult missions in MGS V, having Quiet to back you up and save you in very difficult parts was almost like playing multiplayer.
This is the type of thing that will probably be a gimmick now, but in a couple years, games will really start to take advantage of this and give us the 2027 version of D-Horse/Quiet/D-Dog coplayer NPCs.
