There is no such thing as a diversity hire. People try to interview a diverse panel of candidates. If any manager doesn't hire the best person they are fucking their own careers up. Why don't you DEI whiners understand this? If you interview 3 white dudes, 2 white girls, and this guy, you won't hire this guy just because he is brown, you hire the one that you think it going to make your job the easiest. Diversity Hiring is fucking fiction. It is diversity interviewing and that only occurs where possible.

I am confused by this too. What is her role? Director in a corporate setting just means manager of manager. Is the the overall game director? Or is she a director who is working on this game as a manager?

Personally I like some jank and I think this woman is correct. If the game isn't perfect because they are trying something new and get it 85% that is fine. This dude would fail as a project lead.

Jesus Christ, how about we wait 2 more days instead of making shit YT threads from some idiot that makes edgy videos for maximum engagement and ad money? I see busines suit is the new grift to make your content more noticeable? Still prefer Girlfriend Reviews because vidyagamez.

So much this - if you have a final say on the hire and the hire will fuck things up you can be sure your ass will be on the line. "Oh, it was X that OK'ed that hire". It's like vast majority of people here never had a manager role or were responsible for hiring.

I hope this game is good. Obsidian is a pretty good dev, and this game definetely looks interesting. Hopefully we'll also get a ps5 port down the line, but given Microsofts current strategy I'd say that's a certainty.

Looking at some of his other videos, he also titles himself a "pro character designer" among other things.

Not that jank is excusable, but I'm not sure what credibility some indie shovelware developer who obviously thinks a little too much of himself has into giving anyone "industry lessons", or insight into managing a project of any considerable size.

Let's just wait and see what actual players think come Thursday when the advanced access drops. I've got some reservations about the game, but the combat looks fun and I like the POE universe.

It's obvious pandering to a certain part of the internet. Not sure why drivel such as this gets posted.

I think I recognize that guy. Isn't that's one of the grifters Asmongold likes to watch during his MAGA sessions?
He did a pretty great video shitting all over (and trying to improve) the Concord character designs, not watched him since then.

Honestly, calling a game broken and tearing it to shreds before it even releases because of a bit of jank is really reaching. Criticise the game for real things, not imaginary nonsense.

I love how this guy pretends as if Avowed doesn't have a production director or other writers haven't directed games... some of the biggest games ever like Grand Theft Auto...directed by people with zero programming experience... You do not need to be a programmer to be a game director you "simply" need to have vision and management skills.

People will say anything for clicks.

I'll start by saying i don't have a good feeling about Avowed, i think it'll be rated decently but i'm worried about the real consumer's opinion after they play it.

But he compares Avowed's director to Todd Howard judging by a wikipedia page, but if you try and search who was the "director" or the boss on Morrowind, it appears it was already Todd, and i guess it'll be the same case on the previous game too, so it's not like he had worked on a lot of projects before becoming the game director.

Also about jank, no clue what this guy works on, but yes, i always expect WRPG's that are either really big or got some decision making to have that stuff, Skyrim, Cyberpunk, BG3, Wasteland 3, Kingdom Come 1-2, none of these are free of jank, and it's fine, these all are great experiences, if Avowed is close to any of these games even with it's jank, then thank god.

Oh and he talks about Obsidian as if it was some Ubisoft like company that was just worried about hiring diversity and failing projects, and even if i'd rather them just focusing on making big AAA games, we gotta admit they've been succesful lately, be it with games that sold very well and were liked like Grounded, others that were niche but were pretty good like Pentiment, others that sold well and were at least decent like The Outer Worlds... and they got 2 more projects for this year.

I'm not giving him a click, but the director said it would be broken at launch? Seems like an odd thing to say.

I don't like the art style of the game, but still. The Outer Worlds (from what I have played of it) was fine so why would this be any different?

As soon as I read the generic "Game Developer [verb] [current topic]" I knew it would be this guy.
I don't know for what company works for or what games has he made, and neither seems to know anyone but he surely self identifies as a dev in every video title.

He's extemely good at reading trends and exploiting topics though, so credit were credit is due. But given how prolific he is on youtube i'm unsure he has a full time job.

There's also a possibility that people responsible for accepting applications will immediately reject applicants based on stuff like their skin color or gender. They may not even make it to the next step when managers may get involved. So for instance if you eliminate white guys in step1, you can only choose between the rest in step2.

It's even worse when a crazy person is the project director. They may not care about what happens next since they're safe for the next few years, just about shaping the game according to their vision and surrounding themseleves with people who they like (regardless of their actual skills).

No. I know you want it to be, but it will review in the low 80s and be a pretty decent game.
This, it's gonna most likely be similar to The Outer Worlds. Okay enough game, but every aspect of it is utterly boring and uninteresting.

this guy is high on his own supply. can you guys really not recognize an obvious grift?
100%, his concord video was far and away his most successful video, now he's trying to keep it going with this antiwoke outrage (I detest identity politics but this is just idiotic).

I mean I suppose I can't blame him, but it doesn't interest me at all.

A guy who wasn't on the title's production somehow "exposes" a specific person's incompetence.. Make it make sense.

I think this game, while looking interesting to me, already has a big problem with Kingdom Come 2 and MH Wilds launching on the same month, to the point where I think its level of polish etc might end up not mattering much, like even the most incandescent flame won't survive without oxygen in the room.

The bootlickers here have such a hard-on (well, a couple of inches if they shave) it's embarrassing. Did you learn nothing from Indiana Jones. Can't you just wait one day to find out if the game is shit? You're like a kid that wants every day to be Christmas eve. It's not even like the rational, reasonable people on this forum can counter it and shit on a forthcoming Playstation game. Because there's fuck all coming out on the console. It's as barren and lifeless as my ex.

The game will be generic and will be forgotten in one bit, but will just be as average as it looks, nothing unbelievable bad. It will probably review little bit better than it deserves and will sell little bit worse that would deserve. Microsoft will say the people have been really engaged and we'll all move to the next game.

Watched the entirety of the video and nothing of note was said. The director made an innocuous statement that being creative and trying new things can lead to some jank. That's what the guy has based entirety of his video on.

Personally, I hope awowed or any other game releasing are good

I mean any game not launching on PS5 and/or Switch is probably in for a world of hurt for sales.

Am I expecting Avowed to be any good? No, but I just think this is grifting for views. He talks about dangers to gaming, but it's exactly what he is doing that presents the real danger. Really poor logical argument as to why she was hired or why she is in charge of this game or how game development even works.

This game could be great or it could be terrible, and her being a writer could have nothing to do with either. It's such a low hanging fruit that it boggles the mind.

She did not, no.

She was asked: "Is a little jank kind of a good thing 😜?"
Her answer: "You got to accept a little jank to do something fun and creative I think 😜".

The whole 175(!) questions interview is like that ("😜"). And that's all it takes to disingenuously generate fake drama these days.

What game has this guy made?

This is the question that should end the thread and people posting his videos. He hasn't made any games of note. The games he has made don't even get reviewed.

This is his company's website

https://www.sungrandstudios.com/

He's a review of a game he released, note the term janky being used, which is hilarious
