Games with the best use of surround sound

Not sure if it has good surround sound, but hotline Miami sounds reeaaaally good. Very visceral.
Defo worth a try

Dead Space, Amnesia, Uncharted, The Last Of Us......the jump to 5.1 is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. It will melt your brain.

Make sure everything is hooked up AND SET UP RIGHT. Both in the receiver menu and the game/console/PC settings.

Agree with BF4. Sounds amazing.

Getting surround sound was one of the best investments for gaming I ever made. Such a huge impact on the experience. Enjoy.

Wipeout HD is glorious.

TLoU has the best implementation of positional audio I've ever heard. Especially for dialogue.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edt on PS4 is the best next gen showcase I've played so far.

Not sure why people recommending Bad Company 2. I would say latest Dice game (Battlefield 4). Blast to play on surround sound. Recent one I can remember is Peggle 2.

The Last of Us or Uncharted games have always had fantastic surround sound due to the options they provide like DTS, Dolby or Linear PCM. They're very versatile

Battlefield 4 has great audio in general but it's positional cues aren't the best. The BF sound engine has always needed to be a bit more accurate in that regard. Bad Company 2 was too boomy and bassy for my liking. War Tapes is also shitty because it's just raw audio files with no balance to them. It's over powering and too loud, there's fuck all consistency to it

Dead Space 3 actually has fantastic audio. The game itself is pretty eh but the audio is great. It's very meaty and bassy

Amnesia A Machine For Pigs has great audio too. Sitting still in some areas you can hear like chatter in the background. The Dark Descent has shit audio.

Skyrim actually has some decent positional audio. Especially when you go into dungeons etc. Plus hearing wind all around you and then the call of a Dragon is pretty great. It also has some nice meat to it as well

Corpse Party on PSP absolutely blew my mind. Get a decent pair of headphones and you're in for something special.

Every game using the Frostbite engine (BC2, MOH, BF3/4)
Dead Space 1/2/3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Any Naughty Dog Game (UC1/2/3, Last Of Us)
Alan Wake
Killzone 2/3/4
Mirror's Edge
Metro: Last Light
Skyrim
Tomb Raider 2013
Wipeout HD

Whenever my dumb ass neighbors play their music loud, I just point my subwoofer down and play BF4. I pop off some Sig rounds on full blast, and they usually turn their shit down lol. So yes BF4 Dolby sound is ridiculously awesome.

Batman Arkham series. It gives you great spacial awareness, especially for directly behind you just out of site. Plus it sounds awesome when things are clashing and being broken all around you.

Sin and Punishment 2
That's the only game that I've played that really used the surround sound. Granted, I haven't played most other suggestions in this thread.

EDIT: IIRC Kingdoms of Amalaur had some good surround sound but maybe my memory is shot.

Like every one else is saying, BF4 has an excellent sound mix. I just came out of a Halo 4 thread, but I'd say Halo 4 has an excellent sound mix as well. Also, Black Ops 2 is pretty nice for showing off a sub.

As others have said, make sure your surround sound is set up correctly.

For the Xbox 360, it's simple. You just need to ensure you're connected by optical or HDMI and have DD selected.

For the PS3, there are a ton of audio options. If you only have 5.1 receiver, or only have 5.1 speakers connected to a 7.1 receiver, make sure all the 7.1 options are deselected. This doesn't really matter for game, but was always required for me when I used my PS3 to stream movies. The PS3 will default to outputting LPCM audio, so don't freak out of you don't get the little DD or DTS logos light up on your receiver.

For the PS4, the latest firmware including an important option which fixed an audio issue. If the PS4 is connected to a 7.1 compatible receiver, it would output 7.1 sound regardless of how many speakers you have or the settings on your receiver. This would mean that some people didn't get rear channels output through their 5.1 set-up. Now under Settings > Audio there is the tick box option for force 5.1 sound.

For WiiU, I made a FAQ thread about how to get surround. the WiiU only support LPCM over HDMI.

For the Xbox One, dunno lol.

MGS4 is fantastic, it was my first time actually experiencing 5.1 audio. Played through it on stereo and then on my 5.1 setup,it was glorious!

I'll keep this in mind, thanks.

My set up at the moment is pretty rough as it's just terribly wired and placed since I have plans to redo my room. That said, that sound is still great.
