Didn't see a thread. Lock if old.

The official Facebook page for Ghostbusters revealed today that 1984 paranormal comedy may be on its way back to theaters. A trailer was posted which revealed to fans that we should expect to see Bill Murray and the gang back up on the big screen sometime in October.

According to Ain't it Cool News , this may be a ploy from the studio to gauge how much audience interest remains in the franchise, and if they should grant Dan Aykroyd's wish of greenlighting a third installment.

The announcement itself was light on details. The number and location of theaters, and a window for screening dates remain a mystery. Given that the posted video recycles the film's original theatrical trailer, it is tough to gauge how much attention Sony is giving this re-release.

Update: THR is reporting that Ghostbusters will hit 500 theaters across the U.S. on October 13th, 20th and 27th. Certain theaters in Canada and international markets will also be treated to the re-release. The screenings will feature a digital 2K print of the film with 5.1 surround sound.

Rory Bruer, Sony President of worldwide distribution was quoted by THR as saying, "We're delighted to be bringing Ghostbusters back to the big screen – this is a special celebration of the movie, giving the fans a chance to see it on the big screen in perfect digital presentation. As we head towards Halloween, we ain't afraid of no ghosts, but just the same, we're glad that everyone's favorite paranormal eliminators are on the case."

yes yes yes, finally something good to watch that isn't superhero junk or CG animated children's films.

Figured I'd bump this.

Buy Tickets Here.

Looks like showtimes are going to be 7pm for this Thursday (10/13), next Thursday, (10/20), and the Thursday after that, (10/27)

I'm definitely going on the 13th, but I might go on the 27th as well for the hell of it. I showed up at all the Back to the Future showings after all.

I'd sure like to see Ghostbusters II in theaters soon...still a great movie.

I actually don't like GB1 that much, and much prefer GB2. I didn't know until the Internet that this was an unpopular opinion.

Anywho!

Not even in 3D? What's the hook? I guess Halloween?

That's pretty much it as far as I can tell. 25th anniversary was in 2009, so its not that.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of test to see how interested the public still is in the franchise.

Bumping this, as I just bought tickets for myself, the girlfriend, my sister and brother-in-law for Thursday night's showing.

Thinking of going this week. I missed it last week, but this will be fun in a theater. Thinking of doing Ghostbusters at 7, then the local showing of The Exorcist at 9.

That sounds like an excellent double feature.

I took my daughter to this last week, as Ghostbusters is her favorite movie.

The picture looked good. We both obviously love the movie. The theater had no festivities going on and there were only 20 people there. That was kinda lamesauce.

Def worth going if its playing near you. Next year should be a digitally remastered Monster Squad.

I'd much rather see studios do this in a much wider fashion then continue to churn out these vastly inferior reboots/sequels/remakes.
