Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

AMAZING!

The dick riding for such a mediocre looking game just because its 60 fps is so fucking stupid. We deserve 4 years of cross gen trash if we praise stuff like this.

Also, consoles getting lower than low quality lighting is also being celebrated in the name of 'optimization'. nvm the fact that the optimization is simply code for bad graphics. If the game looked like the Matrix demo, and ran at 60 fps then i'd be like, 'Yes! Great Optimization!' Anyone can make a last gen looking game at 60 fps. Hell, they did for the first three years of this generation. CoD is still doing it 4 years later.

DF and gamers both are responsible for the state of graphics the last four years by praising devs who do the bare minimum and criticize the ones actually trying to push the fidelity. The funny thing is that they both bitch about how graphics have stagnated and they cant tell the difference between last gen games and current gen games.

The state of Gamers & DF absolutely disgusts me, what happened to pushing graphics & simulations at 30 FPS like before? What happened now? The ironic part about it is they themselves bitch & moan about how graphics have stagnated by making memes & telling you to not upgrade your PC or buy a PS5 Pro, but at the same time, PS5 Pro sales so far are better than PS4 Pro even though it's double the price & high-end PC parts are selling more & more than previous generations, it's contradiction inside a contradiction inside a contradiction. Unbelievable, it makes me sick!

All this wondering about how graphics have stagnated, lol they're all being used in frames & resolutions, when people saw the PS5 UE5 2020 demo & the Matrix demo, let's be honest, no one gave a flying Rat's ass about what frames was it running at, those loud minority voices got drowed out by people being absolutely mind blown by UE5's demos, same goes to Marvel 1943 & GTA VI trailers. I think people are just focusing on the wrong things nowadays & it saddens me, we need a game that truly showcases what these consoles & PCs are capable of, and I believe GTA VI will be that, it'll be the most important game in gaming history, it'll set a trend, we may even see a strong surge towards open-world city mayhem experiences, or games being more competent in terms of physics & graphics because people will walk away from GTA VI looking for games to be up to par, it will not only raise the bar for itself, it'll raise the bar for others to try & achieve, bro just AT LEAST TRY, TRY!!

GTA VI is truly the game. No other release will be nearly as important for setting the tone of the industry for this generation and all that may come.

so is the new Doom game using the same engine as Indiana Jones? Does anyone know? Or is it the next iteration of ID tech
Yes and no. their engine is 'Powered By ID tech' but has its own name called MOTOR.

So while the base of both games might be the same, ID Software is likely using a different version for Doom. DF didnt find any evidence of ray tracing in the Doom Dark Ages trailer so ID software is likely not using RT in their game.

All this wondering about how graphics have stagnated,
I guess the only proper explanation is some people love to sit 3 meter away from a tiny size tv so the buttersmooth 60 fps is the only thing they can feel "transformative" about the graphics fidelity,as for the actual image details and consistency?Too unnoticeable to waste hardware for such meaningless stuff, like who tf cares!Sorry, when you try to use a decent higher resolution monitors and tvs with proper view distances to "experience the beauty", all of these low quality drawbacks will just stick out in front of your eyes screaming "Honey just pretending we are the lgbtq groups of visuals so you must hug us and share the love without discriminations, look we are even dancing in 60 fps now ain't this the most pretty scene you ever met !"Thank god at least there are other ambitious titles still trying to get rid of these plagues

The thing is that they made Starfield 30 fps and this game 60. this game has little to no shooting. Its like 90% exploration and puzzles. Why are you making it 60 fps? Push the fidelity instead, no?

The only thing I can think of is that they are a fps studio, and probably didnt want to make a 30 fps FPS. Even though its technically not even a shooter.

Been reading posts & tweets of people convincing themselves by making fun of how if this was a UE5 game it would've looked "a bit better but performs twice as worse" & I'm laughing so hard at the irony, I mean don't better looking graphics require more hardware power? Yeah you can run this over 120 FPS on your 4070s or your 4060 TIs but it looks like a PS4 game at best with some of the "current-gen" niceties like better draw distance, higher resolutions & Ray Traced GI (only big thing in here), but that's it, I can bring better looking last-gen games than this in most aspects.

An Unreal 5 game would look a generation above this, so it's more expensive on resources & that's only normal.
lol was it this tweet?

imagine paying close to $2,000 on a gpu and another $450 on that cpu and being happy with that level of fidelity just because you are getting 160 fps at 4k.

What SlimySnake SlimySnake is saying is absolutely true.
I didnt play the game (Indiana Jones), but what I've seen it seems that the lightning is good due to RTGI, but the asset quality is far away from UE5 games like Stalker 2, Hellblade 2, Black Myth Wukong, Silent Hill 2 Remake or Robocop.

Its just much more dense, with many layers of high quality surfaces which makes UE5 games so realistic.

Some examples (all on PC maxed out):

Stalker 2:

Hellblade 2:

Silent Hill2 Remake:

Black Myth Wukong:

Indiana Jones on the other side seems to have much more flat and simple surfaces and assets, looking more like games we know for many years.

Going through the opening jungle sequence of Indy on SX, about 10 or so minutes in now. I can’t say I agree with you all on this one, gentlemen; the game looks incredible to my eyes thus far. The lighting is one component, definitely, but textures and asset density are also impressive. DF’s video looked good, but was compressed to hell and back thanks to YouTube’s laughable video quality. In person, to my I guess, less technical eyes, I can’t say that I’m at all underwhelmed by what I’m seeing.

On a slightly different note: I booted up Gears 5 while waiting for the above to download, and it’s utterly unbelievable how fantastic that game still looks, and how well it runs. I’ve never played it on last gen hardware, but the SX build is definitely a stunner across the board. The Coalition genuinely are the masters of UE. E-Day has my expectations incredibly high.

And according to 4090 benchmark from Tom's hardware, the average fps for 4k max out games dated back before Oct 2022 even can't reach this number, mind you folks this is testing serveral games from more than two years ago when we are still stuck in the cross-gen period.Let alone for vanilla RDR2 the overall performance is just slightly pass 100 fps.So all of these titles are unoptimized garbages confirmed, good luck babe we have a game in 2024 making 4090 go around 160 fps with next-genish graphics!

SlimySnake SlimySnake you didn't even touched the funniest bit of the df analysis, they said the models are extremely similar to their real life actors but only indy look similar, molina at the beginning is terrible and the female sidechick is the usual monstrosity that look nothing like the beatiful italian real life actress.

It hurts my soul watching fanboys using df videos to enable their ramblings about graphic.

The tweet was running the game on dlss quality not native 4k.

Still the ridiculous performance level indicates how graphical intensive the game really gonna be,considering when benchmarking gpus ,the games are very selective. You can't maintain outstanding performance and impressive graphics at the same time, countless titles shows this ain't the case for current hardwares. The so called visual settings pales when the "supreme" presets visually only match the "medium" or "high" settings in other games at best, the overall presentations are just nothing out of the ordinary imo

They reach this level without depending on ue5 like other Chinese developer's, I know ue5 have more advanced graphics but I support developers who develop their own tech.

Yes, it can at times look atrocious in the procedurally generated levels, but the hand crafted levels look stunning. Great realtime GI, insane asset quality, and when Todd Howard told PC gamers to upgrade their shitty last gen GPUs from 2016, they revolted. Now those same guys are happy that their last gen GPUs can play this game at 60 fps. Insanity. We live in crazy times where mediocrity and laziness is rewarded, and people actually making an effort are reviled.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Stalker 2 was downgraded significantly or is it me? The whole atmosphere is gone …

This gameplay is from 3 years ago…

Considering none of those character moments, cut-scenes are in the actual game itself, and the state of the studio and staff 2~3 years ago, I'd say it's a safer bet that trailer was more of an aspirational offline target render than actual real time game.

Looks like running on hardware lumen with all settings maxed out. The director recently talked about the final few months they had to remove a bunch of effects to improve performance for launch.

Playing space marine 2 right now and seeing similar downgrades. That next gen sheen that comes from volumetrics and dynamic lighting effects is all gone. Outlaws also took out those fancy effects and while the lighting and asset quality is the same, the game simply doesn’t look the same because those few effects were crucial in terms of giving it that next Gen look.

Devs need to keep that in on PC max settings, and reduce resolution or framerate instead on consoles.

I really hate the art direction, unfortunately. I hate the colors. It has one of the worst color corrections I've ever seen. It looks like something from 2010.

This looks awesome. We'll get there on the PS6!

For a second i was going to say that PS5 wont deliver path tracing.

But then i read it again. Well played.

Path tracing update is out for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and it's an incredible, generational leap in lighting/shadows:

sBYNb1D.gif
Lighting & shadows are so accurate that they kinda expose how low poly some of the objects really are, also since this is id Software’s engine, this make me excited for Doom The Dark Ages, we all know it’ll have a Path Tracing mode partnering with Nvidia and all that, we also may see some snippets of it running on PC at Nvidia’s CES 50-series announcement event, looks so tantalizing in a way.

I love Path Tracing, I feel like Nvidia are the only ones skiing strong strides when in comes to advancing gaming technology, this also comes at a cost I know. 😝

Had to edit it with a reply, it was “skiing” not “making”, I couldn’t edit it because 5 minutes have passed since I typed that comment. Sorry

The art direction cant be helped but i like that Bethesda, a previously tech challenged studio, was able to invest in not only high quality assets but also a realtime GI system. It produced some stunning results especially indoors.

This looks graphically better and far more interesting than avowed

I dont care for the art style and while the gameplay looks unique, I think these kind of trailers dont do anything to excite or convey the gameplay. they need to do a full 5-10 minute playthrough of games like this.

i hate that the industry has moved away from vertical slices like sony and ubisoft used to do last gen. maybe because gameplay wise games are so boring, but this one looks new and fresh.

this is fucking insane.

its crazy how asset quality and textures are improved by PT. We last saw this in Dragons dogma 2 where door and brick textures became far more real when the PT mod was turned on.
I wish we get an official Path Tracing mode for Resident Evil 4 Remake, because those mods we saw that forced it to ON looked absolutely phenomenal, CGI-like I swear, Leon & Ashley look truly next-gen, the thing is many of the areas look wrong with it, like it wasn’t intended for it to be turned on.

Genuinely think the assets are actually fairly high quality throughout - but the low quality RTGI makes them look flat and not part of the world - they may be using lower texture quality on Xbox too

Looks like offline rendering.
No hyperbole whatsoever, true and full pre-rendered quality.

Absolutely incredible. PS5 version can go fuck itself already.
Bring on the 5090 and 5080. Need more of this but at higher res. Shame I would've completed the game before the next round of GPU's are out.

Aside from stupid blonde hand hair, it looks better.
But they could've achieved so much more in raster scene. At least screenspace shadows or something. The "before" scene is so barren.
Also I've checked some footage and it seem very dark in some scenes. Maybe a bit skimpy on bounces
