I get that GAF don't want give the TGAs or Keighley any credit, but a show that now garners well over 100m viewers a year is going to give games that have a good degree of presence in a number of categories some free PR.

It's just a question of what % of those increased sales are due to that and what are due to the black friday sales.

Our it could just be Black Friday deals...

This. SE lowered the prices for almost all of their titles on Monday. I bought FF7R myself too. Couldn't care less about the TGA finalists.

My understanding is that Rebirth crossed 4 million sales sometime in August according to an insider on Era. While first week sales were very underwhelming, its legs have been decent due to good wom. I expect a GOTY win will likely give it another jolt in sales.

Isn't black friday in the US and Europe today? Wouldn't that impact show until next week or something like that?

BTW Rebirth is pretty cool.

Bros it literally says in the first post that average Black Friday sales increase was just 10%....

Anyone want to fill me in on the whole Dorito pope joke? I don’t get it lol

On a side note I’m glad FF7R is doing good - playing it currently and it’s such a dam good game.
Way back in 2012..

Shoddy games journalism and shilling was put on blast from this moment.

I was on GAF at the time and saw Geoff being crowned as the Dorito's Pope and the holy processed corn mitre placed on his head. They were special times.

This is why the show is important, i get most people don't "care" about it, but i always get the impression some just feign not caring just to be cool and seem like above it all.
I personally really like it, closest thing to E3 we have right now plus good devs get the recognition they deserve.

I dunno there were literally hundreds of games on Black Friday sales. Why did these ones spike the highest?

Highly rated, games that just got price cuts. I bought both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor Refantazio because the price finally dropped to 40 euro.

It’s probably a combination of higher visibility coupled with BF discounts. Either way, I am just glad to see these great games get a sales job.

A lot of folks may not like Geoff, but he does bring more folks into the space and gives more visibility to games plus a sense of larger legitimacy. Those shows aren’t quite my cup of tea, but I think they are overall good for the industry.

75% in the TGA thread said the TGAs dont matter for the industry.

Quoting myself from that thread.

Anyone saying NO must have forgotten that Control basically bombed until it got like 7 nominations (including GOTY) at the TGAs and people started asking "is that a good game" and its second year sales went through the roof.
I could probably mention many many more games that got exposure specifically cuz they got nominations at the TGAs so people noticed them.

So yeah, Spike Video Game Awards was the biggest award show because consumers actually watched, Spike stopped the VGAs and Geoff has taken up that mantle.

Alot of other awards shows id say are more respected (DICE, GDC...).....but more actual consumers watch the TGAs so that makes them super important..

P.S If you are old enough to remember the VGAs having a red carpet full of celebs and having said celebs host and present awards.....good for you.
I honestly dont know if I miss that era or not, there were so many times a celeb would be presenting a trailer or something and me and my buddies would be like "she has no idea what the fuck shes talking about" but shes a trained performer so she does it with umpfff and shes got great tits so we'd allow it.

The guy has access to sales in UK and Europe. Average sale increase in games during black friday this year was 10%. The games mentioned in the thread are exception, combined with the timing, it is obvious that TGA affected the sales.

Thanks for the post. I voted also, that they don't matter. The big boys can just do Direct Style reveals or State of Play Style reveals. I'd be more down for that, than sittin' through stuff I have no interest in and a bunch of backpatting, cockholstering, company shilling and virtue signalling.

Square Enix better take this opportunity to boost sales of FFVII Rebirth. they better announce some promo during the show. big bonus if it won GOTY.

In my country Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth dropped from 50 Euro to 30 in the Black Weeks, i really don't think those sales are all because of a nomination in a show casuals don't even care or know about.

Right and highly rated games also get nominated for game of the year which gives them more publicity than other games.

This is likely only a bump in thousands of units. It's completely reasonable to think the VGAs COMBINED with black Friday gave these games a higher than average bump compared to other games.

Pure engagement farming. Didn’t Dring make a big deal of quitting X or going to blue sky along with the rest of the plebs? Running back to Daddy Musk already because Blue Sky probably has less than 1% the engagement of X lol.
How would you have shared this data in a way that wasn't pure engagement farming?

What so they asked everyone and only 10% said they bought them because Black Friday and 90% said it was because of the TGA's

It's sales figures, not a survey.
Sold 10 before now 20 waow 200% increased .
That's not how maths works.
