Read more (Fast Company): Herman Miller's Latest Chair Looks Like Nothing You've Seen Before

To break into the market, Herman Miller began interviewing pro players, studying how they played to see how this world differed from typical office work. What they found was gamers do sit at a desk differently from office workers. While business professionals sit casually at their desks, gamers tended to lean forward, almost in an attack stance of their computer. But the racing chair, which puts you into a lower recline, doesn’t match up. “The reason you sit like that [in cars] is your vantage point is a quarter mile ahead. You’re anticipating that next turn,” says Campbell. “As a player, you’re sitting upright, leaned forward slightly, and your vantage point is [aiming] down a bit. The screen is 12 to 18 inches from your nose. How you position your body is totally different than a race car style chair.”

Line up includes the Herman Miller Embody Chair, Motia Sit to Stand Desk, and Ollin Monitor Arm. Each one of these has undergone some slight tweaks for video games. All three products sport matte black finishes with the Embody showing off blue accents and some minimal Logitech G branding. The Embody now features a copper fused cooling foam cushion and a redesigned seat to keep you sitting up right. It appears as though the Motia desk is now using the same sit to stand lever/button as the Renew.

Personally I think anything is better than the racing chairs people use. Herman Miller makes great chairs. I am not a huge fan of the "gamer" aesthetic. The new lever on the Motia is nice though.

Edit: Wanted to add the chair comes with a 12 year warranty. The desk comes with a 12 year warranty on worksurface and 5 year warranty on the base.

Update 09/02/2020:
Herman Miller has introduced a gaming variant of the Aeron as well. This is the same 2nd generation Aeron that people know and love with all new black finish. Unlike the new Embody this does not feature any Logitech branding.

The chair is worth it.... the table.....not so much. There are other brands that offer the same height adjustable features and more for the same price or even less.

I have an herman Miller embody for 6 years now. I have a degenerative disc in my lower back, best chair I've ever sat in period

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I have an Embody chair and it's great. In fact, it's been more than 7 years since I bought it, and I've really never considered ditching it or even replacing the one I've had, despite that that's a pretty damn long time for a computer chair.

I do not want xXGAMERXx branding on my furniture. Let's leave the gaudy bullshit to the PC case, mouse, keyboard, mousepad, gamepad, and monitor.

I have a lot of experience with office furniture. Herman Miller makes the best chairs. I would take one of those over a gaming chair any day. A bit overpriced, but they use quality parts (they're heavy) and you can easily get a decade out of it if you don't beat the shit out of the chair.

I have a herman miller, i wish the back was taller. But definitely recommend them. (Get them off refurb shops on ebay with a coupon for cheap)

"Pixelated support", damn, no AI cloud 5G synergistic blockchain buzzword support?!

It kinda seems like a Herman Miller with a few normie trying to be gamer terms thrown in there, but the cooling mesh might be a worthy addition. Kind of want.

$1300 for a desk that goes up and down?

You can get something that's functionally identical for $200.

yeah the desk is ridiculous but their chairs are amazing! I actually bought a used one in mint condition much cheaper and had to drive 300 km to pick it up 'cause the owner didn't know how to disassemble it for FedEx. Totally worth it!

So you're buying the chair and/or table? :lollipop_grinning:
Nope. Even though I know they’re great chairs I have a hard time digesting spending $1.5k for personal use. I just don’t spend the time sitting in a chair at home like I used to so the value isn’t there for me.

I get to enjoy them at work though!

I highly recommend to everybody, that they ditch the shitty Office Depot chairs or the meme gaming chairs and get a good office chair. Herman Miller, Steelcase, etc. For the amount of time people spend in these chairs, it's a bargain. With all the time I've had to WFH I sure am glad I bought one (Steelcase Gesture) years ago.

That said, you can find them for less than this.

Seems a bit overpriced unless the built quality is impeccable. 👀
Nah man, Herman Millers are pricey! But, they are high quality. The chair is pretty much that price right now, without the Logictech branding, actually they're running a sale on it for like $100 less. Herman Miller chairs are like the most popular office chars, they really are great chairs. Our office is filled with them, not this specific model but yea. I nearly picked up a used Herman Miller Aeron chair for $450, which is a steal but I passed on it... idk why 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I remember now, I found another chair for around the same price but I thought it looked cooler and came in one of my favorite colors :messenger_tears_of_joy:

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
The price tag on the table is kinda hilarious. It's a table.

The impact of a good chair can't be overstated though. I've been working from home for months due to Armageddon and then, obviously, still sit in the same seat to play games, so I thought I should invest in a good chair. Went for a HM Aeron after trying one in a local shop just before lockdown.

Maybe the best £500 I've ever spent. Got one refurbished on eBay and it was fine, it's like a hammock for your butt. I can sit in this thing for 12+ hours a day if I want to and not feel the slightest bit of stiffness. The mesh means that I also get good air to butt circulation and said butt doesn't get sticky in the heat. Incredible.

I would rather spend $1,500 on a Herman Miller chair than the fucking awful plastic leather, uncomfortable fake car racing seat "gamer" chairs that have become popular because of dumb steamers over the past few years.

Should add if you work all day in front of a computer a motorised standing/sitting desk is a life saver.

Ikea Bekant Motorized which runs about a third of the price of the Logitech-Motia one

Filing cabinet is made by Bisley

Monitor arm is Humanscale M8 which runs about $300
Humanscale makes good arms. I'm bookmarking the filing cabinets for later. I like the look of them.

I just bought one of those Secret Lab Titan chairs and it is so comfortable that it makes me wonder how much more comfy this chair that is a grand more is.

Heh, I've pretty much had this exact setup (almost identical chair/desk/arm) for a few years now

Hey were are almost desk twins! I recently replaced my 32 with the new lg and I have a pair of sennheisers for my giant like ears and head (even use the same UPS).
However...you are rocking a TKL keyboard....which is gross.

How can you be a master of the ways of Excel with a TKL?!?!

**Edit**
Is that a Brother (maybe a cannon) printer to the left? WTF......where are you hiding the cameras in my Houffice?

Havent touched Excel or spreadsheet in over a decade; my CPA handles all that stuff. I actually want to go down to a 60% keyboard now.

The printer is a Brother J480DW; its an old cheap classic that has been running flawlessly for years now.

I can see myself upgrading to a 38" ultrawide once it hits all the tick marks I am looking for (1600p, HDR1000, 240Hz, <$1200 lol).

Herman Millers do make good chairs. (My workplace has them). However, I would never pay full price for one as they are simply way overpriced.

That gaming desk and monitor arm is a joke and complete ripoff though. Just get the Bekant from ikea for like 1/3 of the price. The monitor arm lacks support for multi monitor and you can get one on amazon for like $50.

I have an Embody chair at work, and an older one at home. They’re fantastic.

That being said, if I hadn’t gotten the one home with a steep discount, I wouldn’t have bought it. $1200 is a lot to spend on a chair. I think it’s worthwhile to invest in a chair you’ll be using day in and day out, but you can find good chairs for less.
