He's talking about new movies coming out that Warner are planning to use the HDi functionality. Some of their titles like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were supposed to come out in 2006 for HD-DVD (it's out already in Europe), but because of Warner's neutral position (or pressure from the BDA, but that's a different story), they said they will not favor one format over the other, hence delaying some of their titles until the BR Java issue gets ironed out. Except Warner France that are just bringing out many of their big franchises that will not be available on Blu-Ray in Europe (I posted the list earlier in this thread). Warner titles on HD-DVD already have features like zoom-in, timeline and scene-bookmarks that aren't available on the Blu-Ray releases and a Dolby True HD track on some titles since it's not mandatory on the Blu-Ray platform).

Just saw a Toshiba HD-DVD player commercial on CBS...some husband and wife watching a movie and apparently being "in" the movie, in some hanging-out-of-a-helicopter scene.

Whatever....advertising won't help you. Go Blu-Ray!

Where do you order them? Discshop? Blu-ray are really expensive here in Sweden. :(

I'm gonna get Casion Royale and Open Season - need to have one of those CG films.

Yep DiscShop. Yeah they are expensive as hell, 2 films for 500+ Kr. :/
I'll probably get Opean Season later, waiting for Cars also. Love that movie.

this happens a lot. clerks 2 was distributed by MGM (sony owned) but is only on HD-DVD.

basically there's a lot of times when a studio distributes a film that they didn't made and don't have any rights for anything but the theatrical release of the film.

then you have the situations where the home release rights vary from one country to another. so you can get something being hd-dvd only in europe and blu-ray only in america.

that's part of why the format war is such a bad thing for consumers.

Well, that sucks. I guess it's time to start the Universial hate. What's the story about them being HD-DVD only? Must be something special, do they hate Sony for some reason?

Which is why I'm rooting for Blu Ray to succeed. With the bulk of studio support Blu Ray has the best chance of being the format to unite all companies.

I can't find anything conclusive in that thread, just speculation.

Perhaps we ought to just wait and see? If that data is wrong, time will show it, and if not, BluRay's lead should become more pronounced.

Both camps have access to the Neilsen data (it is for sale, after all) so I think we'll soon hear from the HD-DVD side if the combo discs aren't being counted.

The guys over on AVS are ****ing retarded for the most part. I have no idea if those Videoscan numbers are real, but what I do know is that NPD is fairly accurate. Guys on AVS are saying that NPD double counts, because they don't adjust their estimates to account for Blu-Ray players that are returned. NPD numbers are being moneyhatted by the BDA. All types of conspiracies. :lol The HD software threads are an absolute joke.

Yeah I know. That whole thing is such a ****ing mess.

There's another 30 pages+ regarding the Videoscan sales. What I saw was that the earlier sales data were wrong and new ones got posted for the first 3 weeks of January. Well, I think that's what I saw.

Well, I've sat back as much as I can, reading this all, but I think it's gotten nowhere as far as finding out what's really going on.

I friend of mine has told me that over the last 2 days, someone from the Bluray side has been sending this data out to LOTS of the main magazines and web sites - with the summary that Bluray has been outselling HD DVD by a 2 to 1 factor, for the week of January 21. He had spoken to a few himself about it.

BUt now, according to all this debate, Bluray DID NOT outsell HD DVD at all in the thrid week of Jan. So where is this 2 to 1 coming from?

What is wrong with the numbers why no one here is able to agree. Aren't sales numbers supposed to be black and white, or are these just useless guides?

Even the Microsoft VP there, Amir, is spreading outright lies, at least that's what his own troops, HD-DVD fans called him, since most of his promises never came thru at CES. And now with HD-DVD is going down the shit hole, the entire forum is going thru the meltdown, and the mods are busy deleting posts that are anti-HD-DVD

And the BRD viral marketeers are better? I've seen marketing materials from a certain studio posted verbatim on that forum by posters putting it up as their "opinion". I've seen the same post made here, although whether the person just saw it at AVS and posted it here or was paid to do so I can't say.

BD viral marketeers are better; they're representing a better format with a better future to it... so even if HD-DVD does survive, they'll have cheated you less!

If it's true that the guy wants to end the format war, it will likely be a "key" turning point, and the end of Univeral exclusivity.

But, I was not able to find anything doing a quick google search, so i'm not getting my hopes up.

There goes Jaws, Jurrassic Park, Back to the Future, ET etc... and HD DVD's hopes along with it.

The desperation is really begining to show on the part of the HD DVD promotion group. There is no way this kind of a gross mistake wasn't an underhanded attempt to keep people from going Blu. They were probably hoping that if they include the titles, Spielberg may say: "What the heck, release my movies guys."

I never said they were. Movies like Gladiator, War of the Worlds, etc... are a joint venture between Universal and Dreamworks. And they are distributed by Paramount. If Spielberg isn't gonna release anything on Universal, I don't think anything from Dreamworks if coming out either until the format war is over.

Spielberg has authority over the entire Dreamworks catalog and what gets released.

Yea Baby! I was lurking around AVS this morning and found some reviews of it. Lionsgate used AVC and the print looks really good. Looks like they put a lot of effort into the restoration. This is one of my fav movies and I like Lionsgate's low prices compared to Fox.

Matsushita setup Panasonic Hollywood Blu-ray Center (PHBC) to expedite the release of Blu-ray to the market.

Panasonic today announced that its US subsidiary, Panasonic Corporation of North America, will establish a Panasonic Hollywood Blu-ray Testing Center (PHBTC) within the existing facilities of Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory and start testing services today.

Blu-ray Discs feature strong copyright protection technology, and conducting logical format verification of entertainment content in replicated BD-Video discs requires technical sophistication. Until now there has been no testing service available for content verification before disc replication although many in the motion picture industry expressed the need for a testing center to provide such services, especially in Hollywood area. The new Panasonic testing center, PHBTC, meets this industry's need and is expected to accelerate the release of BD-Video titles by the motion picture industry.

In addition, Panasonic is inviting the member companies of Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) to install their BD-Video playback products, including Blu-ray recorders and players in PHBTC so that content providers and authoring studios can confirm the interoperability of their titles using these playback products.

The testing services that will be provided include format verification service for the logical format of BD Video/Live Discs, playback testing service for BD Video/Live Discs with the BD Video playback system as well as rental site service for format verification and playback testing.

Established in 2001, Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory is a leading authoring, replication and encoding facility and has been a major contributor to the creation of Blu-ray pre-recorded discs.
